Thanks guys...my biggest issue with pup ( can't complain to loudly) is tat he does not bark. He goes to door and paws it once to go out and looks at you. Need to try bell training or something. He just gets neurotic and wants to go it a lot. He had just been out five minutes before, didn't ask that we saw and just peed.
Thanks for the thoughts. We start obedience training in a few days. Hoping it for we'll. he already understands come and listens most of the time to it. He is getting sit too. Just need to take training for the kids!

Hi to all the newbies!

I know I missed a few before too

Too late and too tired to go back and respond tonight, sorry about that.

I have been to the Fur and Feather Swap a few times, however I have never been to any other one so I can't say how good or bad it is compared to others. It's just awfully early for me!

I one of my chickens (Rose, the one who kept getting hurt) got her comb pecked today. Corn starched her comb to get the bleeding to stop then gooped her up with green goop. Might have to make a jar softer for the chickens, it was hard to get on the comb.

Guess I'll try to get some sleep... night all!

Delisha- When did you say you'd set the buff ophing eggs? I am gonna keep the chicks in the garage this time instead of the basement and I want to make sure I have the set up ready in time.

Only got one egg yesterday, turning off the heat lamp today and letting them out for the first time in 2 days. Going to make a big batch of Q sauce today and have some pig ribs for supper

Need to get the water buckets washed up and go see the outside kids.

I do not have buff Orpingtons
I have Inported English Orpingtons...Blue and Black
I have test eggs in the bator now. and a few under a broody
I will be setting a bunch at the end of February. Than another bunch in March. By bunch I am taking 12-14 I want to set them before the girls go broody on me.
I will also be setting meat birds at the same time. I only have one bator so I am limited on how many. I need the meat birds.

Good morning everyone!

Not as cold this morning. Everyone survived the cold snap. Now on to better weather. Mom is doing well on the nest and hunkered down well in all of that straw. Eggs are stll coming but one hen skipped yesterday..who could blame her. If an egg is missing today I will need to go find a frozen nest somewhere. That extra bale of straw sure came in handy.

The temp dropped a degree last night in the bator so I need to keep an eye on that. Left it alone and hope it adjust its self with me drapping a towel against the back side.

WOW! I am not even going to try to catch up with all you chatty folks!!!!

Just a big welcome to the new folks (plz believe that we all on here are insane~just a chosen few and you will figure out who's who rather quickly)

Sorry for all the recent losses. Except for poor TerriO, it's the winter weeding out the weak I guess, but it still stinks.

Dr. H~the news was reporting that your friend's son was alive, glad they were right. can't imagine how bad he must feel already w/o the rumor mill making things worse.

A balmy -12 this morning!!!

Took the girls out some warm oatmeal with a 1/2 pint of blueberries on top to warm up the chookie tummies. Got the stink eye from her highness, miss Soup, but Crockpot and Noodle dove right in and Fricassee (aka broody butt) popping in and out stealing the blueberries

Actually got above zero with sunshine yesterday making the greenhouse got toasty warm so I opened the pophole and let the girls make a run for it (which they did

) and I locked them in so the cold wind couldn't blow in and I cleaned out the bottom of the coop. They had a really thick layer of broken down straw over woodchips with dirt/sand on the bottom. I was going for the deep litter thing but with only 4 girls in there (so far

)everything was so dense they could no longer scratch in it or make the little warming nests they liked so it was time to go. No wall scrubbing (still way too cold) just a good floor clean out back down to the vinyl flooring, a new layer of woodchips and lots of fresh hay for the girls to play in. Heard a squacking going on while I was was working and there were the girls watching me thru the side of the greenhouse wanting to come see what I was doing!

When I was done I opened up the greenhouse and they made a fast moving chooking line streight to coop to check out what I had done. I locked them back in and turned on their heater and left them to "play" while I went in and got their warm mash. When I opened the coop door, there they were, happily making all the fresh hay fly! silly, very spoiled, chooks.

Good news! 3 fresh eggs this morning~ Bad news....they were all in the same nest with 2 of the fake eggs I had put out to give Noodle the hint where to she's supposed to lay, AND everything was toasty warm. ALWAYS before they all have had their own "spots" to lay (3 in different spots in the one long nest box and Fricassee has her nest under the roost ramp) so I'm thinking finding everything in one spot and very warm may not be a good sign. Ok, sooooooo, who's deciding to maybe go broody already????

Let's see, the only one who hasn't laid recently and the only one who did NOT have a deposit in this latest clutch? SURPRISE miss Broody Butt!!! I don't have a broody butt box built yet!!!! Geeesh, what part of "it's still middle of winter" doesn't she get????

Well I smell warm toast and fresh coffee calling to me. Have a great day everyone!!!!

BTW~ have any of you given any thought as to how it must sound to any newbie (or cruiser) who starts reading only a couple of pages back? Beating large animals with large dead frozen chickens and small animals with small frozen chickens????

I have been laughing out loud reading some of this stuff but I have given up trying to explain to my hubby when he asks what's so funny. Poor man doesn't understand. He's just too normal.
