Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thank you all very much for the congrats. The autism diagnosis was hard, setting up all his therapy harder, and wondering how we were going to pay (and still eat) was the hardest. This is a HUGE windfall for our family. I feel like I have hope again.

On another note... I have so much snot in my sinuses my teeth hurt.

(Go ahead CC... Yep that means I'm very snotty. No surprise there)

Long day today..

BFam..again congrats!!

Thanks for the info on the testing. I read the information and file it away in my brain somewhere. It gets locked behind some door that I keep passing by.

As far as shipping in this weather. ..
I reciently recieved 4 dozen eggs..some of them were from the contest the other ones are the silkies from catdance

Catdance eggs I asked for a hand warmer and got 2 dozen eggs

I ordered 12 cochin and a variety of Marans and speckled sussex were addded as a bonus..no warmer

On day 7 I tossed 9 that were clear and I was not sure about 14. Maran eggs are hard to see.

I have checked today and tossed another 8. 6 clear and two blood rings.

I checked the eggs for fertility and no bullseyes on 17 eggs. I am not sure if it has to do with the weather or not. I have 4 Orpington eggs in and they are all fertile. These are even pullet eggs.

I have one maybe cochin..and two maybe Marans. I am hoping the rest of the silkie eggs finish with no more problems. I have 10 fertle ones..woo hoo. I made a decision I am not doing anything till day 18.

Beautiful cake..very talented and artistic

I was going to say something else but forgot
What kind of Cochins are you looking to get?

I have standard sized blue hens(2) I wouldn't mind getting rid of and maybe a black pullet.

BigF...I'm sorry to here about the autism. I have 2 older adopted kids and have been through a lot...my 15yr old has been declared by the state as mentally disable. If you met her...she seems very normal...she can keep it together sometimes...with our last testing...we now know she will only get worse....they are pretty sure I will have to move her to a facillity before she's 18. I'm praying like hell the new medication will help...which it seems to be....so that my family can remain intact as long as it can. Never lose hope and hang in there. It gets really rough sometimes. Pacer foundation is a great help too.
Good luck with the job...and if I can help with resources or anything...just ask.

Delish-orp pullets....thats awesome for you. How do u determine gender in egg?

To the SE Wisconsin crew...Racine or Burlington range sounds good, but I'll have to leave the planning to those that live around that area.
I live in MT Pleasant, on Hwy C..can meet here too...I make a mean cheese cake!!

Yes the eggs I have in the incubator are pullet eggs....that means they were layed by a pullet.... not sexed in the egg. If I could sex eggs I would probably be a millionaire. I really wish I could sex an egg. Thats cute btw.

Good Morning Everyone! Balmy 24* this morning almost put on my Daisy Dukes to do chic chores. Jim thought you had one eye done before? Hope things improve.

Haven't heard from kjg would think she'd be home by now hope she's alright. Dave think your youngin would need a job at Mickey D's to survive. TO sorry to hear of another loss! I have an idea on the phone dilemma. Take some material and sew a pouch like thing on your shirt then take oh I don't know say a small chicken bone and sew it on near the top center, cut a small slot in the top center of the pouch just big enough to get the bone thru. WA LA! NO jumping in the house, dang kids! Take a broom and wrap a towel around it for cob webs. Or a shop vac like I do. mazo I'm thinkin you like the color red. Good luck on the quitting! And thanks again with all the help! Your the bestest! BBP you have the touch for getting females!

Not much going on around here. Got 5 eggs yesterday and one so far today.

Good morning all. Hope you all are able to enjoy the morning before the snow/ice sets in. Going to head to town to pick up some milk and other essentials. Promised the kids the kids we would get doughnuts, so I guess I'll have to get one too. Feel bad we missed church this morning, but on the bright side, I wasn't woken up by a child until 8:30a

What happens if only one of my eggs hatch? I thought I heard somewhere that you need a pair for them to grow properly. Hopefully I get more than one that hatches, but now I am getting nervous. We are on day 16.
Well- the last one to wake up DD6 just woke up and wants some breakfast.
Have a good day all!

need some opinions, whoa, cant believe I just asked that!

still thinking about pulling the trigger on some eggs of EBAY, they are in Arkansas and would ship out on Tuesday, seller has 100% rating on 84 ratings and 15 in the last month.

my issues or concerns
  1. temperature and shipping
  2. does it effect bantam more than LF
  3. I have turkey eggs in the bator right now due to hatch on the 13th do i just wait or get them and split the difference in temp and humidity of the turkey and the bantam eggs.
  4. in your opinions what else should i take into consideration?

Thanks,

Joe
Hi joe, here is my 2 cents worth..

1. make it clear to the people in Ark, that you live up here is the devil's freezer.. ask them what
precautions they will take to protect the eggs..

2. I don't think there is a gauge comparing cold on eggs of different breeds.. I would treat them
all the same..

3. I don't know what difference in temp and humidity you think you need.. I hatch all of my
eggs together using the same humidity and temperature as recommended for large chicken
eggs..

4. you do not want to be setting new eggs or removing finished eggs at the same time as any others are in the last 3 days of their incubation...
