Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good AM

the peepers are just fine.. hands off..

IDK how much snow we got.. I looked out the window and the wind is blowing .. doesn't look like a day I want to spend outside.. I spose I will have to ,, I have a load of straw to unload from the trailer.. I need the trailer to go pick up some drying racks tomorrow.. I am needing 18 minimum, or 22 optional,, If I have to make 2 trips, I might up the number to make it two equal loads..

If I don't forget, I am going to take a picture of my two turkey hens,, IDK what kind they are.. I think Bronze, .. the two toms I had died during the winter, so my identification chances went with them.. anyhoo, I will post the pics and you good people will set me straight..

that first cuppa went down fast,, Annie always makes it better than I do.. same pot, water and measuring scoop..

I just got word from Annie that our friend who I get my straw from and americauna eggs etc.. just went to Madison for an emergency kidney transplant.. Annie called another neighbor of his to find this all out.. Brian has a coyote problem.. just a lone coyote comes right up to the barn and is killing sheep.. there is a guy trying to catch it in the act, but no luck so far.. I am wondering if it might be a lone wolf ?? Mazo, what do you think ? Dan followed the tracks in the new snow and determined his findings.. they know where it comes from and at about what time.. 1 AM to 4 AM on clear nights..

I spose I should go let the birds loose.. and get my picture of the turkey hens..

I think that might be a wolf Jim...I dont think a coyote could take a sheep...maybe a lamb...

Sure wish I was a bit closer to those lavenders...wait! Dh is in LaCrosse...wheels are turning. LOL!

LaCrosse and Hudson are not close to each other or on the way home. But if you can get him to do it, I'll take 3, LOL

holy cr@p, I was expecting an inch or two of the slippery white sh!t.. 5 inches ?? treacherous walking with the light fluffy on top of the ice underneath..

of course both feed barrels were empty, so drag the dolly through the snow with 150 pounds of feed and cracked corn.. heII, I could have done it yesterday when it was nice out,, but noooo, too easy..

picture of one turkey hen .. the white on her back is snow..

..

of course she was camera shy and kept moving..
as always click each picture for a larger more clear view..

question of the day: what breed is she ??

judge- It's time to ready your food and water for new chicks. What are your plans? It is something you CAN do to not be messin with those eggs.

Ok- this is my plan. When they hatch I will leave them in the incubator for a day or two, and then move them to a cardboard box. Right now they are in my formal dining room, so I would like to move them out of there ASAP. I figure after a week or two I an move them out. My dad built me a brooder box, so I want to put them in there on my porch. My porch is enclosed but not heated, so hopefully a heat lamp will be ok...

Talk him into it Terri...let I'm know that there are others who would love some too... I would take two...lol! Life is fun... Although he seems much more into the chickens than my Dh

Quote: Judge,
This is a pip

The pip is the tiny hole they will peck in the egg. That will be happening next. You might see tiny little pieces of shell, and that is OK. They are expanding lungs and taking in outside air. Adjusting the lungs, absorbing the yolk. That can take days until they are ready. You chicks will hatch on the right day I think.
My eggs outside are getting ready too. I can hear peeping.

Do you have a way to heat the cardboard box?
