We have the same stove in our basement. I wish I knew how the heck they got it down there! Our kids are 5th generation in this house. Unless they moved the stove here from somewhere else, our house was built in the early 30's. Maybe that will help you with the age?

Your house probably used to have those old bilco doors with an entry to the basement from the outside. My moms house used to have them too, but at some point, some genius decided to cover it all up. Probably leaky or something.

Oh yeah...Jim that hen turkey looks just like mine. She is a Narragansett x Royal Palm; maybe yours is too?

I agree with Dan though...you might wreck any value that it has by painting it! I would fire her up and see how it works...and leave it as it is. The silver parts on mine are Nickel. It polishes up real pretty with a metal polish like Rolite. Do a google for some--it is great stuff!

Yuo, another one of the meaties bit the dust! I went to feed them and everybody had some food. Then I went to get the water for them and one was dead on it's back!

I grabbed it (it was dead) and slit the throat so it could at least bleed out some. Then I brought it inside and butchered it up....dinner for tonight!

Oh my gosh Terri! My mother would LOVE this. They had a stove that looked like an old woodstove, but was a gas stove made by Kenmore. It went to heck and they searched high and low for info on how to fix it or get the part. They went for a year without an oven because my couldn't bear to part with it. Eventually they took my stainless steel glass top stove (hubby had bought me a new one with doube oven) and attached the warming drawer and brackets to the wall so it would still have an antique look. I can't wait to show her yours

As to the stove, it's probably been here since the house was built. Never been outside. No cracks. This house was built by a Haas, then sold to a Haas, bought by another Haas'. So family essentially always here, along with the stove. I can't find a date on it. Supposed to be on the gauge on the front.

Hello everyone! I am still on a high from hatching chicks

They are the most sweetest things! They come at look at me through the incy window and peep. I love how they play and run around and then all of a sudden they collapse and fall asleep. The kids were able to watch two of them hatch, and I got it all to myself last night at 11:30 for the last one. I can't believe how fast it went! The quickest one was 5hrs from pipping.
Now- there are 3eggs left in there. 1 of them I know won't hatch, and I never thought it would really from the beginning. DH wanted me to put it in there, so I did. It is a big double yolker that had been in the fridge from the day before I set the eggs. But...2 of the other ones could have been ok. Actually one of them had been moving on Tues. night. So-
1) How do I know if they are going to hatch and how long do I givve it?
2) I have it duct taped shut, so do I open it to see if it smells rotten in there?
3) and most important- I know the chicks can stay in there, but they are so tall I'm afraid they will burn themselves on the element. I even saw one peck it. If I do take them out, do I have to worry about the eggs that are still in there in case they do hatch? Will the temp and humidity go down too fast? Should I try to candle them?
Anyway- thanks for all the support! I have been a nervous wreck and I couldn't have done it without all of you, and especially Jim and Delisha

OK UnkaDan,, I drove across the frozen tundra and emptied the trailer.. that 4WD is awesome..
I hardly ever use it, and now i did 3 days in a row..

I am going to get 20 more racks.. I don't think I can build a fence any cheaper. especially a removable one.. this will surround a 40 x 60 garden.. I hope that is not too big of a garden for Annie to handle..

Annie should be home soon,, then I will have to wrestle the pup into the Blazer.. as soon as I put a leash on him, he becomes wary..

Someone asked to see a picture of my new pastel call drake. The guy that had him was not giving his ducks water. They had to eat snow! And he wonders why all but one call duck and every mallard he had flew away. Here he is:

Had to give my shih Tzu a bath.yesterday..he had pasty butt...yuck! So today I brought out the clippers for his "redneck haircut". I saved his hairclippings as I spread them around the coop. Made me think of you who were commenting about foxes and coyotes. Eight years ago..coyotes got every single one o our chickens. Last year the princess wanted chickens..so we got some. I was told to keep predators at bay to have the men at the house ocassionally pee around the coop...told my other half ..got a funny look from him..but he obliged. (Really..I think all boys/men love to Free Wily to water the yard). I was also told to spread hair clippings and my dogs clippings when I cut his hair. I hope I'm not jinxing myself...but it seemed to work. So send the boys to do a little "marking of the territory". ;-)

Here ya go UnkaDan,, are you old enough to lift your leg ?? follow your dog and go on everything vertical.. I am not LOL,, but inside I am holding back.. what a picture this conjures up..

hair clippings are supposed to deter deer from eating your apple trees.. and I think there is something about a bar of soap hung in a bag ,, but I do not recall what it was supposed to do.
