Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

The floating egg method works well unless there is a tiny pip in it.

I would tap the egg and peep a few times..it usually will answer back. You also can candle to see if they have interior pipped.

Oh yeah! Two for two.

This is Moose with a few of his daughters. Not a perfect specimen, and certainly not as perfect as those barred rocks, but he's a sweetie nevertheless, and a great daddy. And my eyes don't go freaky looking at him.

Hardly got the car started this morning! Took the entire drive in to Oshkosh to bring the engine up to temp!!!!! I have to say, as much as I love the heated seats, I do miss the blast furnace of a heater that the Jeep has.

A sad/happy day at work today. We said good by to a co-worker. She was our third shift lab tech then took a job in the office, and she is now 3 weeks away from expecting her first baby. So it was sad but for a happy reason. ( this is the one I made the cake for).

Other going's on at work are making it a tad stressful. Nothing to divulge yet but the rumor mill is churning overtime.

All of this had given me a nasty headache, so early bedtime for me.

Enjoy the evening all!

Good evening...I, for one, am glad to have this day coming to a close! Sorry you have stress at work BL4--that is tough to take and still be happy to go to work! My day was absolutely crazy with en-massing all the information for Peggy. Everyone sent their information to me and I printed it and gave it to her other friend that was going down to the jail. You would think that in this day and age the jail/courthouse system would have an email or FAX number that you could send information to! NOPE! So I was on the phone all morning!
I returned Peggy's dogs to her at about 4PM. We had a nice long talk. I am so glad that this episode of CSI is over for the time being! I am exhausted to say the least.

So Jim--do you agree on the breed type I said for your turkey hen? Your new garden fencing sounds neat. What method are you planning on using to hook them together? At one time I wanted to make sheep pens using rods and screw eyes. I think it would work well and be easy to take down and store as well!
Cind--my DH is going to look at the "building" that burned...he thought there wasnt anything to actually look at since it was down to the ground! I guess the boss has a different idea!
Dan...am I going to have to come over there and wash your mouth out with some of that soap hanging on the tree? You have sure come out with some zingers lately!
Judge, that is good advice to wait for those late babies! I have cracked a few too many eggs that have still had viable embryos in them...that is the WORST feeling ever for sure!

I am gresh out of memory so I think I will head up to bed. The roasted chicken and veggies was awesome! I made some pan gravy to pour over some boiled reds as well. I am stuffed as is the rest of the fam!

So, nighties! TerriOhearingthosefeatheryquiltscalling

Long, busy week. Glad it's the weekend!

Update on my Muscovy, they never really moved beyond the internal pip stage. All but 3 of the 9 internally pipped, then nothing. I waited for a couple days, checked eggs and seemed like half were dead, half still moving but no peeping, no pipping and it was heading into the 3rd day since internal pipping. I made tiny holes and peeked in, the ones that looked dead were dead. The ones that were still moving (5) showed internal pips, did not appear too dry or wet, one had completely absorbed its yolk, two weren't quite absorbed, and two were upside down in the egg.

I opened the top on the one that was fully cooked and put him back. I opened the tops and gently rotated the chicks until the heads were up on the two, left the other two alone. Next day no progress, popped the tops on the them and left them, misted and nice humidity. Next day I had 3 happy chicks out, the two that were upside down had absorbed their yolks and heads were out, but had died.

Really didn't want to help them, sat on my hands until half of them died, but did manage to save 3. Not sure why they didn't pip externally. None looked too moist or too dry, they were spot on for weight loss during incubation. I'm just glad to have the three. Here they are, a couple days old now:
