Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

"What is the deal with this great big liver? It is probably DOUBLE the size of the one from yesterday! I should have weighed it..."

and this comes from the gal that drinks with her chickens?

TerriO,, if I find anything in a chicken that is not "chicken". it goes into the trash.. there are more , good birds to eat..

I just came in from outside.. once the sun went behind the windbreak trees, it chilled down a lot..

I put a finishing touch onto the dog house.. I built a "dam" across the doorway to hold the shavings from falling out.. I made it removable for easier clean out..

the pup watched me work at it,, but he did not make a move to enter the scary hole.. He is such a whimp,,

I think I will put a few slabs of straw in there.. I know the guineas are not afraid to go in there.. maybe they will make a huge community nest in there.. that would be cool, one year we had a community nest with over 70 eggs in it.. only drawback with that one was a very poor hatch rate.. although it had several hens setting on it, including one turkey..

TerriO, about your question about processing dead birds.. I always kill mine first.. It is too noisy to try to pluck a live one..

One way to tell if a muscovy is a drake.. It is subtle,, they have slightly larger feet.. you would have to have another duck of the same size to compare to, though.. but if they both would be males, their feet would be the same, so you still wouldn't know if they were males or females,, only that they are the same..
I forgot at what age the barnacles start to form..

I would not eat it Terri.it looks like an infection gone to the bone. I have never seen one that bad. I would not feed it to the dogs. Sending pictures to the lab is a good idea.
You must have been medicating or really taking good care of that bird..it should have been dead a long time ago.

carbuncle's start in different ages, notable ones do not start until later sexual maturity. At onset of sexual maturity they can be the same size. Males are larger than females in every respect. Feet is the best tell when new hatch.

Reading this I can help but wish this would occur in men...oh wait...that's sexual maturity...I was thinking just maturity...never mind.

"When in doubt, throw it out". You can feed uncooked chicken bones to your dogs, so I would just toss it to them.

ODrH, cute babies! I miss my ducks....

If you think those ducks are cute, you should see miniature ducklings..... Call ducklings win hands down on the adorable scale. This is one of Amyables pics of some of my babies...

No babies for me this year. I think my in-laws are looking forward to fresh eggs.

Getting ready to party at my SIL's place tomorrow. Making a spinach salad, and a German Chocolate cake.
Super cute photo BL4...how can anyone resist babies like that!
