Hi All! Update on the missing eggs: I left the coop closed up yesterday and I was back up to 14 eggs. TOday have left the coop open and no signs of anything eating any-not sure what to think.
CC: No the egg shells are fine/thick. In fact, I was adding oyster shell and this winter noticed an increase in bumps and rough shells. When reading about it, a lot of flocks get more calcium than needed during the winter and it can causes the excess to leave bumps/rough spots of eggs due to lack of free ranging. Since I removed the oyster shell, the eggs have smoothed back out. (I only removed it for a week or two and recently added it back to the coop as I feel like they should have free choice).
All the talk of hatchings and incubation is giving me chick fever! I cant wait-when I get back from Vegas trip, I am gettig my brooder pen cleaned and set up and will be getting chicks April 6th (Thanks to BBP) I sure hope one of my girls is broody by then-can't beleive I am HOPING for a broody hen LOL After all the broodiness last year.
