Taking notes and finding the way that works for you and your house environment is sage advise. Jim does his almost the same way I do mine. He is giving good advise. Only difference I have is that I have high humidity house and I never add water to the inside of my incubator until day 18. Even on day 18 I never add water to the wells. I use sponges. I do not tape it shut because I weigh my eggs to make sure they are loosing weight with my candling. I ware gloves when handling eggs. I use water in glasses on the outside of the incubator. My LG does not have a fan. My Geneses does. The Geneses needs more humidity because of the fan.Whew- made 15lbs of chicken wings, 6lbs of cheesy potatoes amongst other things, and had 30 people over to celebrate DS10 birthday today. It was nice day, but now I need a break!
Getting excited about picking up my white chantecler eggs Friday.
My first hatch I feel like I did everything wrong- LG incubator, went out to the coop and picked 6 eggs and put them immediately in the incubator, filled up the reservoirs to the top, put in 6 eggs including one really dirty egg (which hatched)and the thermometer that came with it. I have no idea what the humidity was until lockdown when I got a hygrometer. The temp spiked to 103 and I turned the eggs by hand 2x daily. I hatched out 4 of 6. The two that didn't hatch never started. What do you guys think- luck? Should I try to be more precise this time?
It was so much fun..thank you for visiting..please come again soon!Morning everyone.
My get together with Deli was fun and informative. I learned how to make FF and sprouted wheat, saw all of her feathered friends, and we chatted about chickenstock. She is a good cook everyone ;-)
I also learned that the breeds I thought I had was wrong. Instead of the barred rocks I had in the beginning (before they became dinner) were actually dominicks (I think I spelled this wrong), my RIR is actually a production red, and my red stars....are still unknown.
Well I've got to get ready for work...
