Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening to Everyone....Special welcome to the cheeseheads thread. Good help from everyone here if you need some. Try to make our annual get together the end of May this year, it puts faces with names, and a chance to swap birds, plants, and bull from some....(not me) of course!

Yep, the coop needs to be safe from predators, dry, and draft free with good ventilation. The ventilation might take some trial and error to figure out what works best for your coop. It seems like they all like a little different tweak to get it just right.

Been busy here....good to see everyone gearing up for the hatching season.

Have Fun.... bigz

Hi bigz!

When and where is the annual get together? I'd love to attend if I can - starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day I'm working pretty much 7 days a week.

She's broody for a week... when I'm about to give her eggs... she gives up! Last time she went broody it was 3 weeks of me stealing eggs and her staying put. D@mn chickens!

Oh well.... Night all!

Morning everyone. Egg production has been great here and every egg I open if fertile :) My duck hatch will done March 23rd so I may think about doing the Easter Hatch, not sure. I may just do another batch of ducks. I went to the county 4-H leaders meeting last night and talked chickens :) I guess they didnt have anyone for their poultry project committee so of course I had to volunteer. I'm bring in some chicken and babies at the next meeting for the kids to learn about. I found some other leaders that are into chickens so hopefully they will start promoting the poultry projects as well. :) Oh and one of the leaders wants to but a couple of my ducklings once hatched. So yeah it was a good night. I have 3 more days till lock down on the quail, I think maybe 4 or 5 will hatch. Most feel really light and the wobble when I rotate them. The other 4 or 5 ( cant remember) feel heavier.

Question ..... How many days can I collect duck eggs before putting them in the incubator? Just in case I feel like hatching more ducks ;) With this hatch I only collected a few days , I wasnt sure how long I could keep the eggs out.

I want to thank everyone for the welcomes and the advice. It's good to know that I don't have to go insulation crazy to keep my girls alive. I will let everyone know what we do now that I have some better wisconsin information.

Welcome... I am terri and I live north of Iola...... I have guineas, black copper marans, buff brahmas and a couple of mixed chicks... I am looking to add a EE or a couple of hens that lay green or blue eggs.... I also sell keets in the spring...

Some body posted the other day they have chickies that lay bright blue eggs. Cant remember who tho... maybe big fam. Are those eggs truly blue? Or kind of green? What breed is it? And do you sell chicks? What is temperament of them?

I am looking for some hens which lay those eggs too. I lost my EE last fall and I sure miss her

Good sunny morning once again! It is COLD though. I thought it was way warmer when I went out to feed the horses....I didnt let the birds out cause it was only 7...and I was cold. I have been heading out rather early this seek because my goats and sheep are due to have their babies around the 15th or so. They usually have them at night or early morning and it is too sad if I get out there late and they are chilled. I really should move them to the inside but they are very difficult to move alone and it is doubly challenging this year with all the ice and frozen gates! I am hoping they thaw enough this weekend to get them working again!

Nice to hear from you again Terri K! We are growing by leaps and bounds lately it seems. I think this tends to happen as everyone starts thinking about hatching.
Since we have been having questions about the bash...how about everyone add the link to your signature? (like mine) Then when you visit the other areas of BYC people interested can come here or to the bash site and get information?

OK--dogs are whining...I guess they are wanting out---again.
Have a great and productive day! TerriOheadingtothebashthreadnow

good morning,, looks like a nice day out there.. I will go out to feed after I am finished here..
the guineas are still laying.. really early for them.. maybe they are telling us that spring is going to arrive very soon ???

No more very large eggs, so I guess that last one was a chicken egg.. I never saw one THAT big before .. I should line up a normal chicken egg and a turkey egg and that one and take a picture..
Now I should be on the lookout for a hen who is limping badly..

I wanted to work on the peacock pen now that it is warmish out.. but I have to get my muffler put back onto the Blazer. DD#1 said she would not ride with me until I get it fixed.. and I need her to help me on this bar building job.. she actually wore ear plugs ..woosie !!

just drank my last swallow of cold cuppa, so I better get my rear in gear..
