Sorry you are having problems..
what kind of chicks are you looking for?
I read that too..its for shipped eggs
Chickens are funny critters..she might be getting ready to lay an egg too
Some silkies go broody with out laying..so it is possible
sounds like you had a full day!!
Delisha-I hope she lays, others wise DH says she's getting ready to be soup!
Good early morning! (how often do I get to say THAT?) ANyhow, I just got in about an hour ago because when I went to do chores super late...my technologically dead friend was here with her ipad....I had 3 baby goats in the muck! By the time I got them settled it was midnight and then I had to shower cause I fell on the ice twice...sheesh what a night! Anyhow, one baby got to suckling right away and the other two better figure it out! The Moms were downright rude; butting me with their horns and biting at my coat as I was trying to show the babies what to do. You would think that they would "get it" that I am trying to help so they arent calling to dead babies in the morning! Oh well, if it wasnt pouring outside I might think about going back out and making sure they are nursing...I am not going to do it!

Got eggs delivered to their bators today. Most excellent tour of the Hurley facilities. I got to hold a snake that was worth $10,000 (at least that is what I THINK I heard) She was very beautiful at any rate...I had no idea that Corn snakes came in such a wide variety of colors! Let me tell you, Hurley is one organized woman! I loved how she knew the genetics of every snake there...gosh, I used to be that smart! Her boys were not shy at all! A bunch of characters for sure.
Then I shopped at the grocery store and headed to H&Rs place. We had a nice time talking about syrup and sap (her DH lended 2 more taps for my tree) and eggs, chickens and rabbits. Oh, those babies are SO adorable!
Magic (one of my BCs) got to play with all the dogs at both houses...she is pretty tired tonight!

ANd not so am I! I cant believe that I am still awake actually. This must be what 2nd shift does to you hey? I just hope the ewe doesnt have her babies tonight too...she is my only ewe and was very worried that the two does were leaving the pen with their babies, She is a spaz too so I couldnt get her into the kidding pen.

I guess I will be heading off to bed...oh yeah, Jim--I think that is a chicken egg. (I guess I side with Annie) I had one like that too. I read somewhere that the record for yolks in an egg is FIVE? Pretty sure that was from a chicken too...

Nighties! TerriOwonderingwhatitisinamnioticfluidofgoatsthatdrieshandsoutso? And,TerriOofftofindthegoodhandlotion
TerriO-Congrats!!! How are the babies doing today?
Hi All!

Jim.... you never told us if you figured out what that egg was. I know you think it may be a peahen... but most of us never saw one
idunno.gif
I think the biggest chicken egg I got was 119 grams.( over 4 oz!) Sure hope the pup just found that roo!

Vicki.... I would keep her dark and quiet for several days so she is not triggered too try to lay. Just give her time to heal. Yep, it was CC... but I agree. (writing as I read)

Bf4m....I do not envy you having to care for sick family!!!

David... BTDT.... he is now living in the "workshop"
hu.gif
Although, I will admit, he probably did better than most. Sometimes you got to let them run and just be there when they trip and fall.

sunshine.... LOL... at least you didn't wind up living with the birds!

CS... when a hen is going broody she will lay until the brood takes hold, then she will stop laying and just set. Do you know how old she is? And what breed?

TO,,,, LOL.... Welcome to my world!

The pizza crust was not as good as I hoped and was a pain to stretch! The toppings helped make up for it. I prepped lots of goodies, peperoni, bacon, Italian sausage, fresh and reg. motz.,parm., feta and goat cheese. Olives, onions, green peppers, spinach and basil. We made 4 1/2 pizzas. A friend and his GF stopped over and helped! It was nice to see them but put me way behind on "cores". Did an interesting Tatot reading for him. I do one about twice a year for him, always seems to nail it. This one said his GF better take over their (his) finances! LOL He did admit that he was over spending . Anyway... it was a nice visit, even though I didn't get much done.

Night (morning) All!
She is a year old and has never laid. I think she is a red star. Mmmmm pizza! Do you get fresh goat cheese?

Delisha-Congrats on the silkies (post pics when you get the chance)!!!!! I saw the pic of your bator, what types have you set? It looks like a few different breeds. How are the rest of your babies doing (basement and outdoor babies)?
Spent too much time looking at pictures of EE chicks and trying to decide if I have hens or roo's. Such cute pictures.
Well- I din't turn the eggs last night. Are they still ok? The temperature still has not recovered and I am about to pull my hair out! I'm thinking maybe a cold spot in the incubator? Any suggestions?
Need coffee.....
Hope you all have a great day!
Judge-Look at last page, someone replied to you about turning your eggs. Something about not actually opening the bator and turning them, but tilting the bator.

Happy foggy cold soggy morning. Chores done, some serious Thomas the Train track laid and engines working hard on the "shake shake" bridge and going through the "dark dark" tunnel.

I've got cheeping coming from the incubator, so sounds like the IB eggs are hatching. Wish I could see better, but I'll take a good hatch over visibility. Guess I'll see tomorrow what I've got.

Terri - I WISH I had a 10,000 snake, but that is a very rare occurance in corns and wouldn't last long. They're way too prolific for their own (monetary) good. The one was a $1000 snake last season, but I'm sure won't hold that value this season as so they will begin to be produced in larger numbers. Luckily I didn't pay that for that snake, was a gift from a friend. I'm sure by the time it's old enough to breed, the price will drop to $50 or something. LOL That's the nature of corn snakes. Supply and demand, but unlike ball pythons that only lay a handful of eggs, corns can lay 10-15 on average (even up to 25-30 in big girls with little eggs) and can lay 2 clutches a season. They'll never hold their value long, and that length of time depends on the attactiveness of the morph. If I were to hatch out a royal blue snake, and could reproduce it, those would sell well for quite some time.

good wet and soggy morning from the north

really getting tired of this winter and wishing mud season would arrive, I just ordered some new muck boots and want to put them to use

I now have 44 blue eggs in the sportsman, these are all olive egger and that will be the last of those for awhile. Last year I
hatched 4,,,,all roosters,,,if that % holds up with this many

. This has been more of a test run for the bator, I'll candle at the end of next week, I expect a lot of clears since the BCM has a lot of girlz to cover in the big coop.

One of my Blue Copper Marans pullets has gone broody,,,,trying to decide what to do with her, pretty early up here to let her hatch, but then again if I move her tonight to a setup in the big coop and she sticks (on golf balls) I might just give her a clutch of eggs from her siblings and see how she does.

Good afternoon! Little goaties are still good. The mamas were still laying down when I went out so I didnt bother them and go in. All the babies were laying under the heat lamp and it was still lit. All should be good.
I redid gates yesterday so the geese would stay in...yeah right. They were out again by the afternoon! This morning half were on the road and the other half were back under the pine eating the newly exposed grass. The dog and I put them back in...probably they wont stay. I have to run into town and pick up my feed. I hope it didnt get wet on the dock--we sure got a lot of rain! I wanted to go when I got up this morning but it was way too foggy to go anywhere! Still foggy but at least it's light.
Dh wants me to take him into town to pick up his work car at the shop...but now he wants to wait until the bball game is over!
barnie.gif
Sorry--I need to get that feed; my birds are HUNGRY! LOL!

Guess I better get moving...I got a couple more tree taps from H&Rs Dh yesterday, want to get those in too. I have hardly any sap in my bucket!

Have a good one---hopweyou dont get all that snow David! TerriOneedingsomethingtoeat

morning all,

Wet and slippery here. supposed to get 9 inches of snow, between tonight and tomorrow. What the heck, I am ready for spring.

Delisha, I am looking for Columbian wyandottes- Any one know of a good source

Jim , there are 2 seminars one is Wausau one in Marathon The wausau one is Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The Marathon one is Thursday March 21st . I am going to the one in Marathon.

Kid has been gone for 5 weeks, living with a friend. Being enabled by parents who let him stay there rent free, no responsiblities, no rules. Why would he come back. Just annoys me that parents actually parent like that.

Have a good one

David

eventually those parents will begin to get annoyed with him ,, or who knows,,, maybe they will find a way to get him to pull his own weight..??

patience, Grasshopper ,,,

good afternoon, getting a late start today..

later on I will have to gather a few tools to take to my new job tomorrow.. I have a hunch the 4 WD will be used a little..

I guess I will concede that the large egg was from a chicken.. but for those of you who never saw a peahen egg, It is really close to that size..

I added water to the bator.. the temp went up to 100, but no change in the hum% yet.. It has been only a few minutes, so no worries.. one nice thing about having 2 thermostats,, I can adjust the primary one without messing up my fail safe one..

Hurley, your eggs look soo awesome!!!

Sorry about the chick loss...makes me nervous that I do it right on my maiden voyage!

Catching up on chicken and house chores! Rained A LOT yesterday and the girls have puddles. Cleaned the coop and gave them some dry stuff to play in. They were happy to get some fresh veggie treats! One thing about eating a lot of veggies, the chickens get lots of treats!

All this sap talk really makes me want to tap. My hubby did a lot of it as a kid, must be bad memories cause he wants NO part of how much work that would be...sigh... O well.

Well better start catching up on the house chores ... We spent 12 hours in a gym at the regional youth wrestling tournament yesterday, :so not much got accomplished. However one of the boys did wini his bracket, so in a couple of weeks, to Madison we will go!!!!
