Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening, Annie is gone to work, so I have the whole house to myself . I am all TV'd out already..

Zeke, my chicken culler is a male Maremme

this is Dora,, she is about 27 inches tall and just under 80 pounds in this picture.. this was teken a year ago..

. the male is just 7 months old and is about 75 pounds..
I don't have a recent picture of him.. I will try to get one of them together..

I don't think the chickens and ducks are mixing their genes.. Pang said that she has two duck hens and one drake.. there are 6 eggs in the batch she brought this time.. and 43 chicken eggs.

I have all the eggs in racks,, I just have to label each one yet, before I put them into the bator..
I put the date on them for when they are due to stop turning..

My Dr check up went good.. I must have a year to live, because that is when my next appt is..
I officially lost 6 pounds.. Dr was OK with that..

.jimbettergetthoseeggsdatedandintothebatorthenMillertime..........

thats a nice looken dog, jim, what is the bread, bred for. my roo duck comment was a poor attempt at a ltl humor, you all r so good at

I hear ya Brent, so many things to take care of.. we pump the washer the same as you do.. Now that the tiny bedroom is empty, I am thinking of moving the washer and dryer upstairs.. Annie is not getting any younger, ya know.. we have talked about it many times over the years.. I want to do it mainly so that she cannot put somebody into that room.. I think I got through to her that I am all done care giving.. and you know what ?? all day I was trying to remember what I wanted to go to Menard's for,, you just jerked my memory,, I wanted to look at the recessed washer hookup.. Now all I have to do is remember this tomorrow..

You eat bare quite a bit, do you ?

I caught the duck joke,, I just was not sure ..

the dogs are flock guardian dogs.. ironic, isn't it ? he is eating the things he is supposed to protect.. he actually is doing a good job of it,, nothing ELSE is eating them..

Danny Boy and the girls are getting along great! (Sorry I didn't have the phone with me today or I'd have some pictures.) Not a drama queen in the bunch - they are a really mellow bunch of birds.

I've been working on some new digs for them in the barn. I think I have enough wood, wire and windows lying around here to pull it off with little expense. Just need to find a nice door. I only have one wall to put up as I'm redoing a nice roomy horse stall that already has 3 walls. I could move a bit faster on it if the dang weather was a bit warmer!

Hope you all are staying warm and toasty!!

Thank you, Terri! My thoughts exactly.

Hens- bad idea. They'll probably kill the chicks. Now a rooster might be a good idea. I have a banty partridge cochin that is my surrogate mommy for all my chicks. He does a better job than some of my hens at raising them. And since he's a roo, he is always on the lookout for dangers. But I never let my chicks outside until they are pretty darn big, like bigger than him, but that's because all my grouchy hens are out there.

Awww, Hurley, those eggs are adorable! Almost too cute to eat.

Maremmas are Italian sheepdogs, bred to be livestock guardian dogs, actually. My sister had one. She had her for 14 years. They are better suited to large properties or farms than in cities, as they can get very protective of anything that enters their yard or territory.

Happy birthday BBP! It is DH's stepdad's birthday today too. We went out to dinner with them, then went back to their place for ice cream cake and cupcakes. I don't think I'll be eating tomorrow. Or sleeping well tonight, for that matter.

I'm glad the meet up went good. I think we should just have Delisha cater the food for the bash, hey?

It sure sounds yummy.

Nothing new here. The boys are now behaving. Curly's comb looks a tiny bit swollen but it's clean & dry. I had put Blue-kote and some neosporin on it so hopefully all is well there. Otherwise he looks good & is eating & drinking. And the girls have finally started laying a bit more. About time!

Good info on the Brinseas. I absolutely love my mini, but I wish I would have gone for the 20 right away instead.

How was I to know hatching was so darn addicting? It's all Bigfam's fault.

Glad to hear Danny Boy & the girls are hitting it off. Can't wait to see some pics.

ETA: I don't mean you should just use any old rooster for your chicks. You'd have to experiment to see how he would react to babies first. My roo is pretty old, and the first chicks I put in with him were already pretty big. I was intending on putting the chicks in and removing him, but as soon as he saw them, he started calling to them and finding good things for them to eat. He also made sure they knew where the water was, and was very diligent about making sure each and every one of them went to bed on time. He had 7 chicks and he would herd 4 of them in front of him up the ramp to the roost while calling the other 3 behind him, looking back every few seconds to make sure they were all in line. It was the sweetest, funniest thing ever!

My female Gold laced Orpington

Male Gold laced Orpington

The lacing is coming in really nice. These are going to be some really large birds. I think larger than my blues.

Yep, that's a boy, alright. Look at those legs! Awfully pretty, Del!

Mine are pretty big. They definitely look bigger than my lavs, but not quite as poofy as my blacks or Hershey. Darn close, though.

Hi All!

Too much for my tired little head to go through tonight.

Happy B-day BBP!

Loved the Kitten "hot chicks" pic.

Those devilled eggs looked cute!

JJ....

One of my turkey hens seems to have morphed into a young Tom! Today the black chest feathers popped through!

This is the one the Tom in that pen kept giving the "back massages" too. Now I think it may have been a way to keep it submissive. Soooo..... anyone want a young Midget White Tom? I'm will to trade for something!

That's it I guess.... night all!
