Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

to tell if an egg is frozen,, (or hard boiled) set it on a flat hard surface, like a table or counter top.. make it spin.. If it spins freely it is hard.. if it sort of wobbles and spins sluggishly, and stops quickly, it is liquid inside.. to test this , take an egg that you know is hard boiled and one that is raw and spin them for comparison.. you will never forget what it looks like..

Yes, to someone who asked.. I do incubate duck eggs.. I have 8 in the incubator with 9 goose eggs right now..

some duck eggs take longer than 28 days,, and so some geese..

had a real fun bunch playing cards tonight.. and everybody was so talkative,, card players and non players alike.. there must be a change in the weather coming..

I went to F&F and priced out a recessed wash machine faucet / drain box.. $33 including a one handled shut off valve..

after I get this installed, I should be able to drain strickly by gravity.. both the shower stall and the wash machine.. I think Annie is OK with the project, too.. No matter, I am going to do it anyhow.. whether she is for or against..

both of my daughters have projects for me to build.. I keep asking who is going to help clean out my messy work shop ? no takers on that..

I sort of think that you would only get fined for chickens if you resist and put up a hard fight.. If you buckle easily, they won't fine you..

so I say buckle, get rid of the birds and THEN start fighting the ordinances..

Hi All!

JJ... congrats on the hatching! I go to the swap in Elkhorn every year. Can't judge how big it is because it's the only one I've been to.

sunshine... congrats on the hatch.... what a cute lil' naked neck! awww

Hurley.... Yes, we need baby snake pics. when they hatch! I wish Neil's dexterity was better, I know he would love to have snakes again. But, they would be too squirmy for him now

Bf4m....Glad things went so well.... off to a good start!

Thanks Flocks.... if it's a she I will keep her. Just didn't think the girls got the black chest feathers. That, and the way she displayed I was really wondering. That means I have still have 2 Toms and 3 hens. Maybe I need to do some rearranging and put the other Tom in with the girls. I may sell the one Tom but he would have to be a breeder because I promised the woman I got him from that he would not be a meal.

This is "Piglet" I just think she's pretty. She' one of my EE's. I love that little comb and you can't see it too good in the pictures, but she has a cute little muff too. She's called Piglet because she's always trying to get to the scratch bucket and will tackle you if she sees treats!

Odd thing is.... I don't have any B&W birds except for Jasmine and she's a small barred rock.

Well that's it... Night All!

Ordered my first ducklings from McMurray. Ship date is Monday. Should I expect them Tuesday or Wednesday? I am outside of Milwaukee. Any experience from McMurray?

Wake-up call at 3 AM this morning...... Fonzie decided that Spice had no business walking past him and decided to let her have it! Nothing like getting jolted awake by a cat and dog fight! Too bad she is declawed, I would love to see that dog take on a fully clawed cat.....

Off to work early this morning..... I have a stop to make before I 'punch in'.

Hello Michellers!

Welcome to the group..!
We are sort of neighbors. I live in Mt Pleasant. South of Oak Creek. You will love your ducks..I do not know about chicks and shipping from a hatchery..if they are the same as other shipping from people, you should have them in 3 days. The hatchery should give you a heads up at an arrival date. The post office should call you to come pick them up. What kind are you getting? I have Muscovys.

I ordered two Blue Swedish! I'm very excited! I've been researching and learning as much as I possibly could. This forum has been great!

I set this up on Wednesday. A week early - ha!

Cindlady I will get some pics of my girls. Some have beards and some don't. It's never as thick as a toms. Just a small amount of bristles, but it can get long. Fidget has a beard about two inches long. Hens/pullets can and will display, but won't hold it for hours like a Tom. They usually do it while flirting. They love to flirt with people. Usually they will hold the strut for a minute or two and even make the tsk noise. It's cute. We always say "where's my pretty girls" and they strut on command. It's really cute.

If you have the room you could switch out the toms during the day or every other day. That way they both get used and if one is shooting blanks your still good for fertilized egg. I always keep a back up Tom just in case.

Take care of your precious little flirter she's just saying she likes you.

My royal palm hens display once in awhile.. their display is not as round as the tom's ..there are less than half the feathers in the hens compared to the toms.. I never got a picture of a hen in display.. I don't always carry a camera..

I have an eye Dr appt today.. the follow up to see if the last procedure will satisfy the Dr.. All I know about it is that my eyes water very easily.. I guess that relieves the inner pressure ??

Sister #3 just showed up with boxes.. she is going to clean all the stuff out of gramms's room.. we told her if she takes anything,,,, she takes it all.. None of us boys wants any of it.. there is nothing but pictures and underwear .. LOL

I just talked to a guy who says he can get me 30 dozen Buff Orpington hatching eggs.. He will let me know when in a few days.. I will have to drive to Wis Rapids to pick them up.. Dr H, how far are you from there ?
