I have 3 eggs starting to pip. 1 started yestarday and pipped once while I was out shopping, pipped a second time while I was not paying attention, and just pipped a 3rd time today. ugh this is taking forever lol. I'm hoping the kids will at least see one baby hatch this time, last time they were at school when Shifu hatched.
Other than that not much new going on her. We attempted to give the White Cochin a bath and well that was interesting. She is still filthy. When we were drying her we noticed she was missing a nail so now DD doesnt want to use her for the fair. So of course we then had to go outside and inspect all the birds for her to decide to use the Ancona for her county poultry meetings to learn with and use it for the Sauk county poultry show and will decide later if she want to use it for Juneau county or use one of the babies coming next month. We also made another chicken carrier so she has something to take her chicken in to the meetings next month.

I am about 60 posts behind so I am replying one page at a time..

UnkaDan, I hatched a Spanish black one time He was very pretty, but then he slipped (or was pushed ; murdered) off the roost and got hung upside down where he died..

I am tempted to get a couple of those midget whites (vertically challenged turkeys) ..

how much do they weigh dress out ? we need only a very small bird for only 3 ov us old people. If we need more, we can always cook 2 or 3 ..

what type of body shape do they have ? is it like the wild turkeys ? torpedo shaped ?

sunshine,, trading does not reduce the size of your flock, unless you trade 2 for one..

no comment about the bunny's embarrassing pose..

Banties are real scrappers.. I don't think you will have a problem with them being pick on by larger chickens..

I have given chicks to hens that have not hatched their eggs.. not only do they not know how to count, they have no realization of time either..

Hey dcba, that sucks about your flock.. those respiratory illness are hard to pinpoint.. sometimes the chickens you bring in are not immune to what is lurking in your flock.. sometimes the new ones bring in something your flock is not immune to.. either way it could turn out badly.

I mentioned that I might be getting some Buff Orpington eggs before Easter.. I can get just about as many as I want, so I could hatch out a few for you,, NO charge.. No rush in getting them either, as I have to keep 25 until they are old enough to go out without heat , anyhow.. I have an order for them.. so what's a few more ??

yes they are! when DS(11) had his cochin bantams they ruled the pen and would go toe to toe with any of the LF chickens. The LF chickens would give way to the bantams.

making pizza for lunch...we'll see if it is any good! Our 4-H group is going to the nursing home today to visit this afternoon, we are taking a bunny, couple of chicks and DS(7) wants to bring his meal worm farm! Other families are bringing reptiles and dogs. The residents enjoy seeing the kids and the animals- the snakes were a big hit the last couple of times.

will also be stopping at DQ as DH ended up working late again last night.......

Ski !! nice to hear from you .. I think we can set you up with what ever you need. the bash is not that far off anymore.. I just hope they can plow out the road into the camp that weekend..

I was greatly surprised at my two ganders.. they are the perfect foster fathers.. I handed them a baby goose from the incubator and the guys just took over.. the geese on the other hand were not too receptive.. later on, I gave the ganders about a dozen muscovy ducklings.. no problem, as long they are babies, they were accepted.. IDK if I could do it with chickens.. might give it a try..

going to work on the peacock pen a while today.. haven't been in the mood for a few weeks.. too cold..

I have to get the guineas into that pen.. they are hiding their eggs from us.. I am sure they are in the garage somewhere,, but it is a big building with hundreds of hiding places..
