Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

CC I could understand if it was one of my neighbors who busted me, but in the end it was a guy who lived 4 blocks away! He just turned me in for breaking ordinance, no other reason.... did the same thing to the lady who had a few BO chickens by my mom. The chickens would roam the neighbor's yards cleaning up the birdseed. Nice fat chooks who were a delight to watch. Those neighbors were also upset when the City forced their removal. Of course, do not forget that there are certain members of my community who have taken to reading this board just to see what I am up to. I just LOVE small towns....

My neighbors miss my ducks, and they want them back.

CS, I still have my ducks, they have been sent 'up river' to my in-laws place. We try to get over there as much as possible since they do not get let out unless we are there (I do not expect 70 yr olds to chase ducks around and catch them). When we were there last Saturday we changed out their bedding..... maybe now those stinkers will start earning their keep and start laying eggs!

We have an important election coming up on Tuesday, hoping for a new Mayor and some open-minded council members....

Off to work. Half day for everyone but the Saturday crew, we have our half day tomorrow.

Bigfam...hope those eggs are ok...mama gts off her nest to eat sometimes too...right???

Six pips now, no one out yet...back to sitting on my hands...or trying to sleep...or something
lol

10 out 4 more pips.... At least I will have a few to show to my guests coming to buy new chicks Saturday.
BigFam..they should be OK. They are far enough a long to go a while on lower heat. Kristi is right, hens get off.
TO..I have her coming today to do more work. I love having a bored helper!! Joe is starting the fireplace in the double decker coop this morning to do some chicken work. It is a chilly morning. BRRRR. It works really good because it keeps me out of the incubator.

Deli I wish you weren't so far from me... I WANT YUMMY FOOD! (Oh and visit with you too ;-D ). I also want to see some fat bottomed girls (of the chicken variety).

I will be shocked and amazed if I hatch anything. I went to check on temps and one hatcher is fine around 100. The other one was 93! For f@cks sakes, who's sabotaging my hatch? Oh wait... It's spring break and I have 5 children and some of them may be a bit too curious and will not admit to anything for fear of death. I have to work today, so I'm hoping I can get the temp up and holding before work. Next thing it'll be 115 and I'll cook them!!!!

good morning, BF , your eggs should be OK.. but it has NOTHING to do with the hen getting off her nest to eat or drink.. remember, we are artificially incubating eggs.. NOT duplicating what a hen does.. I know , your friends were just trying to console you, but don't lose sight of what we are doing.. remember, artificial...

very frosty outside this AM..

I notice both dogs in the dog house.. that is a first.. I am happy that they are using it.. good thing I made it big enough.. the guineas are still using it during the day.. once in awhile the puppy goes in and chases them out.. I wonder how many eggs are buried under the shavings in there ??

I have a lot of blocking to cut for the rafters.. then I will try to straighten the rafters by myself, .
hope I can manage tjat

I am down to 1 AccuRite thermometer out of 3.. I have to go to F&F or Wally world and pick up a couple new ones.. I am going to try to get Springfields . . only because they show temps to the decimal..

somewhere around here , I think I have a therm/hum% with a probe cord.. I should try to find it and see if it still works.. too many boxes of junk around here..

with the high temp in this room, all of the bators temps went up to 100 F.. good thing I have my fail safe temp set at 100 F.. I just leave the door open to the room and then it cools off immediately and everything goes back to normal..

Hi! I'm paying a visit from over on the Utah thread.
frow.gif
I'm originally from Wisconsin, but met and married a military man when he was stationed at Fort McCoy, then we traveled all over, retiring just this past year in Northern Utah.
I'm here because I'm looking for some hatching eggs to bring home with me from my upcoming visit home to Wisconsin. My daughter and I are flying in for the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison April 19-21. We will be flying in to Milwaukee, but traveling to my home town of Sparta, then to Madison for the horse fair. We'll be flying out of WI the morning of the 22. So, with those dates in mind, I'm looking for some typey, Mille Fleur/Calico bantam cochins and some bantam Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas.
If you are anywhere along my driving route (I-90 & I-94) or close to it and have what I'm looking for, please contact me!

Thanks so much!
Hey, I'm going to the horse fair too! I don't have or know anyone with those breeds, but if you can find someone in the Appleton/Green Bay area I could help with a chicken egg train.

those birds d@mn well better appreciate this pen..

Hard worker Jim. Of course they will, in no time they'll have it covered in poo and feathers. Poultry decorating. Haven't forgotten about helping me re-set by bator have you?

The ROBINS came yesterday! Oh happy day! And the redwing blackbirds and sandhill cranes too. Cartman and I went walking in the woods where there are still 3-ft drifts of snow, but there are pussy willows.

If you really suspect the kids are tampering with the temp control knob, put a piece of tape over it is such a way that you can tell if it gets removed.. draw a penned line from the tape onto the bator.. if it is replaced, the line will not line up.. just don't tell your secret about the line..
the kids will think you are psychic..

BLESSED GOOD FRIDAY EVERYONE!

(if I just offended anyone, take it up with the Easter Bunny

Wow, did I get the work done yesterday, even sunburnt my nose a little, AND my ladies actually ventured out of the greenhouse, (even Soup and I didn't have to carry her!!!) to check out the honest to goodness ground that appeared where we have been shoveling their garden pen!!! They even pecked at the grass not even caring that it was still brown, it was grass!!! Oh, and talking about spoiled chooks, when is giving them catfood spoiling them, hmmmmm? I mix a little in with their evening meal once or twice a week during winter. I did read however, that you have to be careful not to give them too much/too often (which made me back off on the volume). Something about you could cause "water belly" if you overdo it. This came from some kind of Avian Vet. After reading that I started sprouting beans, alfalfa and broccoli seeds for them instead, which they get as their morning treat. Boy, can those piggies go thru that stuff!!!

BL4~good luck on the election of Tues.

Same to all on your Easter hatches!!!!

HELLO TO ALL THE NEWBIES AND VISITORS!!!

Got my coop all shoveled out yesterday (love that vinyl floor!) and new bedding and DE put in. I wish I could give it a good scrub down but just not warm enough up here for that yet. Hubby is afraid I have too much time on my hands because I have been re-designing the entire coop!!! Thinking of extending the nest boxes out the side to give more floor space and adding another pop hole thru the opposite wall so I can split the coop/run in half if I need too. We do have babies coming you know!!!

Poor hubby. I keep it up and he's going to UN-RETIRE just to get a rest!!!

making a big turkey just for hubby and I for Easter. No body wants to venture up to "snow country" for a visit. Had it in the freezer and it needed to be cooked up so looks like a lot of turkey based dinners in our future!!!!. Except Monday. Roadtrip to my Onc in GreenBay then so he will HAVE to buy me dinner

Hoping you all have a very Blessed Easter and a great hatching day!!!!

Just think if you have a 100% hatch now, You are gonna go insane trying to duplicate this incubation. Look on the bright side maybe they won't all hatch! LOL

bl4-I hope that the board members have learned a lot about chickens and chicken keeping while spying on you and posing as a deceitful spy. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. People all over the world keep chickens and frequently they roam free. Here in the USA we view nature as foreign and industry as natural. How twisted is that? No one raising their own food should have to hide like a criminal. Some places have already begun handing out tickets for people growing a vegetable garden. Industry and large companies are being given freedoms that they should never be allowed and it's minimizing the freedom that each person is born to have! We will continue to grow our vegetables in our yard, we will raise our own food(s), we will respect the creatures that were put on this Earth for us to look after, and we refuse to poison ourselves and our Earth!
Okay, I'll leave it at that and hop off of my soap box!
