BBP: My bad-I meant Cochin!!!!

Dr Haha: I am so sorry about losing both parent so close together-its hard losing a parent period let alone both at once-keeping you in my prayers

Found out yesterday that my dads wife stated she can no longer take care of him (He had a stroke and has a tough time getting around) so we are scambling to find a nice place for him to ge the care he needs in the San Fran bay area (My bro and sis will be close by)

Next weekend I pick up chicks!!! I also want to hatch out some gorgeous B/B/S english orps and LF Salmon Favrolles from a breeder i found but am wondering if anyone else would want some? Or be interested in roos from these breeds if there turned out to be some boys? I could possibly bring to the bash if someone was interested?

Krsitip/Elaine: I completely agree-if you have the opportunity to stay hoem with your kids-you are one lucky lady!! And your kids are very fortunate-take the wonderful opportunity! I stayed at home with my oldest, but after a divorce-wasnt able to stay at home with my youngest.

BBP: A co worker at work wants me to pick out 10 sexed pullets at chick days for her. I would just need to keepa brooder going from sat mornign till Mon morning then bring them to work and her hubby would pick them up! FUN! How early do you open Sat?

5 chicks hatched and alot that are pipped. I doubted... I was wrong, now we are having a blast and kids are wanting to snuggle the wet slimy chicks... keep telling them we have to wait.
so exciting!!!

I would gladly take a few of the surplus, as many as 8-10, would like a couple of girls but would take a couple of roos. If you have other people you r closer to and wish to take care of them first I get that! thanks zeke. HOPPY EASTER to all God bless all of you and your families!!!

Deli I wish you weren't so far from me... I WANT YUMMY FOOD! (Oh and visit with you too ;-D ). I also want to see some fat bottomed girls (of the chicken variety).

I will be shocked and amazed if I hatch anything. I went to check on temps and one hatcher is fine around 100. The other one was 93! For f@cks sakes, who's sabotaging my hatch? Oh wait... It's spring break and I have 5 children and some of them may be a bit too curious and will not admit to anything for fear of death. I have to work today, so I'm hoping I can get the temp up and holding before work. Next thing it'll be 115 and I'll cook them!!!!
Well when you have a day to spend take a road trip with the kids..I will stuff you well!! Spoil your kids, and send ya home with a few fluffy butts. I have Orps all over the place! I have 22 out and 4 more pips..holly cow I might get my 100% hatch after all. 5 eggs left doing nothing. These are all 1/2 English Orps or 100% English. The Blue, Splash, and Black English are so huge and fluffy already.

Congrats!! Going to be two days of hatch excitement!!
Quote: Zeke..I have English Orps too.

Happy Easter everyone!!

So who s goin to the wapaca swap tomorrow? Anyone. I might check it out , been to it before, its fairly small, or it was then. should be a little warmer than beaverdam swap, maybe a better turn out. Looks like most of you r looking forward to some nice hatches, congrats. I myself tried this last year with litttle luck. Now after reading some of your posts I see I may have made a mistake or 2. I did hatch out some but the most costly eggs failed. Wish I read a little more or new about this thread b 4 I got started. Had great day off with the wife. NICE weather, got afew things done arouund the farm. theres always more work than there is time, 10 more years till I can retire. So looking forward to that! Ive enjoyed reading ALL of your posts, very entertaining and informative, thank you all for both!! I think I ll get my bators out and try a little hatch of my own. Any body want some australorps I m going to start with them. How long do you need to seperate your breeders to be sure you get pure chicks?

Bl4, that guy sounds like an uber dick.

I hope all the narrow minded folk get replaced.

Jim, if both of those dogs were in that dog house, I don't think you have to worry about any eggs hiding under the straw anymore. Ya might wanna think about some fresh straw, though.

Congrats on the chicks/pips, Kristi!

Ang or Del, if you have a black Eng. roo, preferrably pure black, I'd be interested. And fluffy is good!

zeke, 3 weeks for pures/time to clean the pipes, so to speak. A year ago, I would have jumped at the chance for some more aussies. Love those birds; extremely good layers and pretty too.

Saw my first robin of the year yesterday. Still pretty much snow on the ground down here, but at least it's melting.

I plan to go - if I can get up that early, that is. Daughter, roommate and the puppy will get here for the weekend late tonight so who knows?

If you come to Waupaca be sure to stop in at my store! I'm near the Red Mill off County Rd K - the big brown farmhouse and tin clad barn on the corner of Crystal Rd and Danielson Rd. Crystal River Cottage - I'm open 10 am until 5 pm. You can meet Danny and the girls!

bl4-I hope that the board members have learned a lot about chickens and chicken keeping while spying on you and posing as a deceitful spy. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. People all over the world keep chickens and frequently they roam free. Here in the USA we view nature as foreign and industry as natural. How twisted is that? No one raising their own food should have to hide like a criminal. Some places have already begun handing out tickets for people growing a vegetable garden. Industry and large companies are being given freedoms that they should never be allowed and it's minimizing the freedom that each person is born to have! We will continue to grow our vegetables in our yard, we will raise our own food(s), we will respect the creatures that were put on this Earth for us to look after, and we refuse to poison ourselves and our Earth!
Okay, I'll leave it at that and hop off of my soap box!
I so totally agree and join you on that "soap box"!!

Got my coop all shoveled out yesterday (love that vinyl floor!) and new bedding and DE put in. I wish I could give it a good scrub down but just not warm enough up here for that yet. Hubby is afraid I have too much time on my hands because I have been re-designing the entire coop!!! Thinking of extending the nest boxes out the side to give more floor space and adding another pop hole thru the opposite wall so I can split the coop/run in half if I need too. We do have babies coming you know!!!

Poor hubby. I keep it up and he's going to UN-RETIRE just to get a rest!!!

Hmm, looking for hubby to semi retire this year (next for sure) and there is quite a lot to do around here, I may need to revisit the "to do" list, don't want to scare him off . . . fat chance of that happening
