Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Sorry I have been absent, ds18 has finally returned home, broke, failing thank god no drugs or problems with the law. He finally admitted, things were a lot harder than he thought and realized why I have been telling him to do more homework, save more money. Not gonna be fun for him, he has a lot to fix but hopefully he can and will realize he is too young, inexperienced and poor to do it alone.

Glad he is home safe and learned a life lesson. School of Hard Knocks is one of the best institutions of learning, IMO.

Everyone into healthy eating in the Central area of the state might want to check this little event out.... It is going to be in Oshkosh.

For cryin' out loud...............

"Unka Dan, is it necessary to have an opaque roof on a greenhouse ? I was thinking of steel..
it is quite a bit less $$$$ and it will last forever.. (my forever) ."

well DUHHHHH

yes Jim it IS necessary

there are options, one would be use gh grade film,,,that should last 6 yrs or more and is cheap just need to keep it tight, flapping in this case is no good

we'll talk on the phone there are some other ways to do this,,,and I will check with Annie to be sure you are dressed when I call

28 chicks out...3 to go..I have one pip ...but the other two..nada
It is still early and it seems I always have late arrivals.

It is probably from opening up the hatcher and taking chicks out. over a dozen chicks running around in a stryo does not work. I culled one chick that burned the whole side of its face. Poor baby. I could not tolerate the crying in pain.

I think I am going to try putting half of these guy with my BLRW chicks. Maybe with so many to pick on the BLRW will not beat them up to bad.

Ended up with a good number of chicks from the hatch. Put the Easter Egger/mixes up on Craigslist and within 30 minutes a nice gentleman and his son came to pick them up. Now I can focus on raising up the ones I want to select from for my flock. Final tally:

10 Iowa Blues
11 "Iowacanas" (Easter Eggers)
7 Olive Eggers (Easter Eggers)
5 Silver Sussex
2 Blue/Black Marans
1 Lavender Ameraucana (LF)

36 hatched of 46 set in the hatcher, somewhere around 50% total hatch rate on the shipped eggs, so not too bad. Pleased with the outcome considering I set all shipped or questionably frozen eggs from home. LOL

Loving this incubator and hatcher. Better results than what I was getting before, no question, and a lot less tinkering and fluctuation for sure.

Here are the Olive Eggers that hatched out (and already headed to their new homes).

I went to the swap in Waupaca this am (YAAAAAAWN!) and it was a very small gathering - mostly bunnies (some were free). I didn't see anything for me and my little flock. Maybe the next one!

Didn't see Zeke either. Well, I'm off to open the store!

Have a GREAT day!!

Sorry I decided to go watch my niece play a little volleyball in oshkosh Never saw her play b 4.. It was nice to see, she s a good player, Always nice to go support a young athlete. Time well spent. maybe next time

Dr. HaHa  my deepest condolences, it is so hard to lose a parent
Judge, sorry about the hatch

Sorry I have been absent, ds18 has finally returned home,  broke, failing thank god no drugs or problems with the law. He finally admitted, things were a lot harder than he thought and realized why I have been telling him to do more homework, save more money.  Not gonna be fun for him, he has a lot to fix but hopefully he can and will realize he is too young, inexperienced and poor to do it alone.

I spent the week looking for buff orpingtons , comets and silver laced wyandottes. no one has any. I called all the coops in 100 miles, as well as 3 tractor supplies.
I don't need 25 so the only place I can order from is meyers.  I can't even special order from the coops without getting 25. I need to call Abendroth's Hatchery to see if they are open next Saturday and if I can pick up.  a long drive but can make it adventure.

hope everyone has a Happy Easter

David

It's hard to learn those life lessons but sometimes that's the only way it will sink in! My grandpa always told me what a hard head I had I laugh now realizing how right he was about so much! :) I have some SLW coming at the end of April if you don't find any before? I did place a big order of 25 chicks (5 different breeds) that is due to ship around April 29th. I am only planning on keeping 2 of each or my chicken math may land me in a straight jacket or divorce court! Haha
