Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning! You guys are FUNNY today! I almost doused my screen a few times. I wonder exactly what a raccoon s'more would taste like...can you enlighten us JJ? Maybe you can bring one of them along to the bash?
Ugh! My mind isn't nearly that inquiring, Terri!

I second the massage therapy before chiropractor work. It helps make the chiro work...work better for you.
Hey DaneChick... To be known as Dane or DC from here on out... I live a mile from Wollersheim Winery outside of Prairie du Sac. Sooooo... Hi sorta-neighbor!!!
I did not know you lived there..are you close to water?

Hello DaneChick..

What are you looking for? I have a few nice breeds..I also have some nice BCM in the bator now if you are looking for chicks. I also have English Orpingtons in there. (BBS) Plus I have some BLRW chicks.

Sorry Sunshine, but I have to agree on culling the chick. If it is Marek's, it isn't something to risk the rest of your flock on, IMHO. It's just too darn nasty of a bug.

Dan, I think you have the option of getting your chicks vaccinated when you buy from a hatchery, but it'll cost ya.

Cuties, I don't really recommend housing turkeys & chickens together due to the risk of the chickens potentially getting blackhead from the turkeys. But I think Jim's birds all hang out together & he hasn't had any issues? I guess it is up to you if you want to chance it. I would research blackhead first, though. But that is just what I would do.

Excellent info on the layer feed, Del. I feed a starter/grower until my birds are 16-18 weeks, then they go to a layer formula. Knock on wood, but I haven't had any issues with my roosters eating layer feed. Jack has been eating it for as long as I've had him & he's 11.

I am heading to Farm & Fleet in Sturtevant for the first time tonight! I checked online at their prices and WOW was there a huge difference. I don't know why you guys didn't tell me this earlier? It is all of your faults for making me spend too much money on this chicken disease of mine!

I plan to get chicken and rabbit food, pine bedding, and some boots for DD12 and myself for when we go to work at the horse barn and for riding. DH and the other kiddos are coming along too. I wonder what Nathan will buy??????? I suspect tools. Hopefully they don't have any chicks when we go or I may come home with a few of those!

FF just got the chicks in..
And you need to pay attention..many people in here go to FF. Some one even posts the sales coming up. Sheesh..now you can get a credit card and have the flyer mailed right to you.

I like FF..The bedding prices are so mush nicer. You can order right on line and go pick up your order too. What time are you going?

I've been reading all your posts so it's only fair to introduce myself. I recently decided to get into chickens for both eggs and meat. I ordered the initial 25 layers from Meyers hatchery and they are three weeks old last Monday. My husband also brought home two Indian Runner ducks from Tractor Supply that were born the same day as the chicks were. They are quite the characters. Anyway, they are all out in the garage in a large brooder and doing really well. I got 8 Buff Orphington, 15 Rare layers (I can tell what some are but some are still mystery chicks), and I was supposed to get 2 White Sultan roosters. The hatchery made an error and only sent 1 Sultan :(. I am sure there is probably another roo in there somewhere though. If not I'll be in the market for a nice roo. I have an existing cement foundation building to convert into a nice coop along with a very large chain link dog kennel with a chain link roof that's been sitting around for years to use a run. So if this darn snow would get off the ground we could start working on it. I also plan to order meat chicks when the girls get out in the coop and run the meat birds in tractors when they are out of the brooder. Lets see, what else? I have 15 acres south of Fremont. I have 4 horses, 2 dogs, and too many cats. I will be looking to improve my flock with some true quality birds in the future so I thought it would be nice to network with other chicken folks in the area.
