I just wanted to check in quick- I'll have to read the rest of the posts later..
I bought a coop/run for the chicks to move into from FF. It's cute and should do the job. Hopefully I can put it together in the morning.
I picked up my eggs for a retry on my Easter hatch. Going to put them under my 2 broody hens later- crossing my fingers
I entered the hatch a long contest for natural egg photos, and my picture was one of the ones narrowed down for a vote. They chose 15 and then members voted on their favorites. I came no where near winning(I only got three votes) but exciting just the same!
And best of all for my day------I have a pip!!!!!!!!!!!

I had two eggs that I had set in the incubator late, and they are due to hatch tomorrow. I am soooo hoping it hatches!

You gotta let us know when your in a votable contest so we can all go stuff the ballot box! That goes for the rest of ya too.

Possibly. It depends on how many hatch out & how many are females. The last 6 eggs I got from Bigfam, only 3 hatched and only one of the 3 was even a lavender. The other 2 wound up being black splits.

And if Bigfam is going to be the one trying to hatch them out, we'll be lucky if we get one out of the six. Her and lavs just don't seem to get along.

I am in need of your opinions. Who here uses sand in their coop vs. pine shavings, etc? Which one do you like better? Why?
Trying to figure out my plans for my coop and I have read that sand is great and cheaper in the long run vs. the pine shavings. Also its not suppose to hold the moisture as much. True or false?

Interested in the answer to this as well. I hadn't considered sand and I have truckloads of it for free. There are sand dunes on a portion of the property. My first thoughts would be that it depends on what kind of floor you had in the coop. I think sand might be more difficult to clean out? I have sand in the horse stalls but cover it with pellets/shavings because the sand gets nasty fast. Don't know though...I am not yet a chicken poop expert.

So now I'm wondering how kitty litter would work - aside from being more pricey than sand. If you have free sand there's no harm in trying it our for us and reporting the results!

I used gravel under the roosts. Didnt work well. I scooped poop a lot. But the gravel is wet blagh! Im going to scoop it all out now. Id love some ideas also! Hubby plans to build a tray under the roosts so I can clean that off... im thinking of continuing the pine chips under that...
