Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning,

i took pictures of the pen.. it is ready for me to build doors, today..

I cannot send the pictures.. DD#1 was here the other day and dinked around with the computer upstairs with my card reader,, now my card reader does not work with my computer...

I transferred 31 eggs to the hatcher,, they are due on Sunday.. I still have to transfer 13 guinea eggs over yet..

I thought I found the stinky , but there must have been two of them.. I think some of Pang's eggs got frozen.. the stinkys I found were from the earliest eggs..

CC... Are you gonna make me lav chicks too???

oh and I am being ignored on the 2 dz eggs owed me as a prize. But I did have a swap coming and that lovely lady is sending me some lavs. I told her I wanted to add some new blood to a friends line. She is sending 6. They have Robin all over them. Swap chicks for chicks?
Sounds like a plan. When you getting the eggs?

CC-on the snuggle situation, I am trying not to snuggle with this set of chicks. Delisha has very calm birds that will let just about anyone hold them and she doesn't hold them frequently. Whereas my first set of birds, I tried to hold a lot. I wonder whether this created a fear of being held or if I just had some weird birds. Anyways, these birds are learning that food comes from me and I do pick them up to inspect them, check their ties, etc. As far as the lav orps, we are ready for them. Do you want me to pick them up as soon as possible after hatch or a week after? Some people prefer to wait a bit. Either way we are looking at this weekend or next, right?
Um, not this weekend. Next weekend or the weekend after is fine. Your choice.

ETA- the eggs haven't even gotten into lockdown yet.

No idea lol It was the Happy Cackle Special.  I think for the 10 pullets and 1 rooster I got Barred Rock ( I think), the 10 rares have some Polish I think and I think I see a Mottled Houdan. The extra, not sure yet. The ducks are Rouens, the geese are either Toulous or African lol, and the turkeys, not sure .  I have the Cackle webpage open trying to figure out what we got lol.

I have a couple that were guessing game also! They were a mix tho. We havent ordered from hatchery yet. Sounds fun! Good luck with them!

Cc, love the pick :)

Any chance I can purchase a hen or two from the other blood line??

Hi eileen! How are you today? Do you know of any swaps in the area this weekend?

Wondering if anybody had an overabundance of quail on the easter hatch. Hubby already has quartnix. But is looking for some variety. Please send me a pm if you have anything else.
Thanks guys!

Ugh..

went out to the coop this morning and found one of my heavys on the nest with the duck. I thought it was so cute a duck and a chicken were co-nesting. I later took her off so the duck could get off since she is so large and was blocking the exit. Well the poor bird could not stand on one of her legs. She must have gotten knocked off the roost and decided to snuggle with the duck. I felt no injuries, but, decided to dispatch her. I hate a bird in pain. I am so glad I did. She had dislocated her hip. Made me ill to culler her. She was a nice young bird and one of the last of my heavy's. I only have two left now.

I'm great! The sun is shining and all is well with the flock! Hope it is for you, too!.

Someone told me the 4H is having a swap at the Waupaca Co Fairgrounds in Weyauwega on Sat (6am). They said it's always better than the one that was held last weekend (they had mostly bunnies and very few birds). I'll be visiting my daughter this weekend and then stopping b y John to pick up a couple of girls on the way home so I won't be able to go. I'm trying to talk my friend and her daughter into going - I know Danica will fall in love with one or two!
