I let just one of the Toms out for a few hours today. He went right for the other turkey pen and the "boys" were so busy trying to intimadate each other through the fence they didn't even notice the ladies were having a grand time grazing. At roost time 1 hen went were she belonged but the other 2 were trying to pretend they were chickens. So funny, I have 6 - 8' bars for the roost, 2 turkeys on one side, and about 30 chickens crowded on 4' of 4 bars! I never saw them so "chummy"

I put the hens back in their coop and went to get the Tom back into his pen. Even though he's a "Midget", it's not easy for a short, fat ol' lady like me to pick that boy up kicking, flapping and growling to go back to his pen! But we did OK. I think if I do it again, I'll get the penned one out of sight first, the other one may be more willing to "go home" then.

Guess that's it for tonight....Night ALL!

May sneak back just to see if FT popped back.

Good Morning everyone. Thank you for the guesses on the chicks and Turkeys. I didnt even see the White Leghorns on Cackles page, I checked again and sure enough I didnt scroll down all the way. So far out of the 33 babies sent to me from Cackle only 1 turkey died ( they sent an extra in the shipment so it's all good), all the rest are spunky as can be. I already had to seperate the geese cause they kept pulling the wings of the chicks.
Oh and this weather really needs to break ! I started to get excited thinking I could put my older ducklings outside soon, then I see the weather and we're back to winter temps again. Grr. lol The 3 (2 1/2 week olds) are sooooo messy. I knew they would be but man, I think they kept the brooder dry for a whole 10 minutes. I need to look online for a better waterer I can make.
Well I guess thats about it. i hope everyone has a good day.

I hatched a silver laced brahma yesterday. I sure hope its a hen. I'm not sure who would want it if it was a rooster. I don't know anyone else who has that color in brahmas around here (except the person I get the eggs from).

ok, on our way for ANOTHER road trip to my Onc in GreenBay so I am just sending these along now and will catch up with the posts later while I wait for the doc on Kindle. Have a great day everyone and a HUGE welcome to all the newcomers!!! Welcome to the Packer coop!!

Pull up a roost and join in, BAWK BAWK BAWK!!!

Angel checking on the babies. How do you like my "nursery" ? This was taken yesterday. Can you see all the snow outside? sigh.
Added a shelf to the window so the box would fit and notice I put a sheet over the bed covers, etc. for chickie dust control

Oh, and I built a cap out of green coated hardware cloth for when they start getting more flighty. They are already trying to use those tiny wings

The girls at one week. Supposed to be "browns" but those white wings sure look like Red Stars (or cinnamon queens?) to me!!!

will it EVER end.

Ready to be in my garden ssooooo ready!! I am thinking I should just stay home become more of a homesteader! and then I guess I wouldn't have a home for very long. but it sounds really cool and I would totally love it. I wonder sometimes if I shouldn't have been born in a different era... then I think of how certain things have evolved... and think ewe... how did they live without that!! to this I refer all the hygene products that some of us girls might use:)
Been "liking" LOTS of homesteading pages on FB and canning sites, chicken sites and Paleo sites. Paleo is something we have become sort of obsessed with. We are not too strict but boy the changes have been amazing! I am down 20 lbs since Feb. Just healthy eating! Meats veggies, minimul dairy ( I LOVE CHEESE) NO grains! so we bake with coconut flour and almond flour. Sounds weird, but our kids feel better and we feel better! No alcohol either... this is on the "not too strict side" LOL ~~ I am from WI... no beer or Cheese??? uummmm that won't work too well LOL~~ Everything in moderation.

We all know it is April! so I am sitting on pins and needles waiting to get the call that my chicks are on their way!!! I feel like my kids when they are all excited about something and ask every 30 seconds if it is time yet LOL~!!

Well sorry about the ramblings. needed a little cathardic rambling today, i think ;-)
Have a great day!

Good morning to all!!
Kj, im right there with you! Bored some days at work, and wishi g to homestead. .. wait, I guess I would have to actually eat my own animals then lol guess ill keep at the job thing!

KJ I am with you on the 'back to the land' thing. I have also been looking into paleo, but I cannot completely get rid of what is required, so I just feed the fam TONS of veggies and much less meat. Now all I need to do is get out and start running, but this d@mn weather never cooperates OR I am sick (like right now)!

CC, anything south by Milwaukee is by the border for me. Close enough!

I never realized there were two KM parks until my relatives told me they were doing their biking at the parks. I could not believe they would drive all the way up by Fondy just to ride bikes! Now the place they like to ride at is that Ray's indoor off-road bike place in Milwaukee.

Transplanted the tomato seedlings this morning. Now all I need is a cold frame and some warmer weather!!!!!

Vegging out today since I am still fighting this bug; have to make a cake for work tomorrow too. Better don the face mask while I am making it....

Vic, I love your brooder! How cute!
