Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

here we go

Bales on edge(not on strings) sprinkled fert. on top and water alot.

I put in T posts to put a trellis up with a 2x4 top

Funny thing happened on the way to making a round chicken run, I got tired of putting it back together and made it square to take the stress off the pieces.

ah well.

No hurry on that run,,,,,, you still have about 5 mnths. or so to getter done. LOOKS GOOD!!!

and here is a pic of my ferrel cat that adopted my chickens as playmates.

The hubs and I spent all day taking down some old fencing and I'm wiped out! We should have enough good pieces to patch the openings in the outer fence and also fence in the chicken run so it was worth it. It looks a lot better, too.

We're still looking for a two bottom plow for the Super H so we can get the sod busted up for the garden. If you know anyone with old farm implements hanging about, I'd appreciate it if you'd ask if they have such a thing they'd like to sell!

Just skimmed the day's posts - love the cute critter pics! JJ - looks like a very interesting garden project - look forward to seeing it as it progresses!

G'night all you Cheesehead Chicken People of Wisconsin!

Is there a reason there may be contaminates ? Our well was installed by us when we cleared the land to move the trailer in. We have no neighbors and only woods all around and dont dump anything toxic on the property. The well is only 6 or 7 years old. Should I be worried ?
Getting a well tested every year is a good idea. God only knows how far the reservoir you're tapped into branches out. It could run under an old cemetery or a farm with lots of runoff. Ground shifting could cause new fissures. A bunch of new wells had to be drilled in our town just before we moved here, word is there was contamination from a large farm that seeped into the groundwater. We live in southern Brown Co on the Ledgeview karst and there are lots of surface fissures that can lead into the underground reservoirs. Don't wanna be drinking E.coli.

There are possible contaminants present in groundwater that can do damage to infants and children, but do nothing to adults. The apartment I used to live in have a very shallow well (less than 50 ft). We had farm fields half a mile away and yet we had extremely high levels of nitrates in the water. We lived in that apartment for 4 years and toted water in that entire time. At some point the pump died and we had a new well dug, that one was DEEP and the water was no longer contaminated since we were no longer pumping from the surface of the water table.

Here is info from the EPA on nitrates if anyone is interested.

Right. Our church/school next door used to have signs at all the fountains that read 'Nitrates present in water, not suitable for infants and small children.' Last summer they had a new well drilled - in the neighborhood of 380 feet!! But no more nitrates. Our own well is 88 feet, we must not have shared the same reservoir because ours tested out fine when we bought the house. I'd really like to pop in a sandpoint with a hand pump; for fun and when the power is out.

Random post of the night- does anyone get PM's from people you have never "talked" with before? I have gotten two so far from people wanting to chat. Weird....

Judge, just some stalkers. No big, lol. Just say no and then if they persist report them. Otherwise just be flattered. Trying is ok, but persisting after being told no is a different story. That's why I put up my cat here as my avatar. I have all kinds of wierdo's messaging me on FB.

So...the picture of the chick I posted is a white Langshan from my blacks. Pretty cool! Anyway, one more black one is out of the egg and rolling around the incubator, another is zipping and two pipped right now. I don't know how I'm going to sleep. Muffin Head (the white one) has imprinted on me and I like it. My hatchery chicks never show me the real love.
