Hi All!

DrH.... My broodies so far are ones I really like. If one of "the other" hens goes broody you can have her if you like. The thing is when you get pullets you never know if they got the broody gene or not. Some breeds are more prone to go broody, but you never know. I do think you got better odds though if you get chicks from a hen that laid and hatched her own.

Psyco.... Vent sexing chicks is an art. When I was growing up I lived next to a hatchery and I would watch them sex chicks, I was even shown how but don't know as though I would do it now. You have to push in just the right spot while pulling down and back in just the right way. Doing either a little to hard, you can damage the chick. I would say only get stright run chicks if you KNOW you will butcher the roos. You will NOT be able to find find homes for them.

TO... sure hope you find your torti alive and safe grazing or sunning somewhere close! Maybe attach bike flags! LOL

GR... WOW... you only wound up with 9 pullets out of 43!.... Well, you got a full freezer.

Judge.... You know that goat is already scrutinizing that fence and developing an escape plan! LOL

Good Chilly Morning! Had a fire in the wood stove yesterday and had to turn the ceiling fan on to sleep. Psyco whatever you decide to build it won't be big enough.

Cind I can just see a flag going through a hay field. Movin slow and wobbling around.

Thanks for the broody offer but think one of these gals will go one of these days. Have one banty that I'm thinkin will do it. Bigz seems to me that BL4's DH offered some help with your Fiord a couple of YEARS ago. Sure is a labor saver. Was thinking that when I moved the piles. I wonder how long it would take to move these with a shovel? Have to make a new well cover then pulling the boat in the garage and getting it prepped. Called the guy that supposed to be fixing my motor. He said he was writting it on the back of his hand. Told him he can't take a shower until it's done. TO hope you find that tort! CC don'tcha love the wide behinds on the BA's? Lard A** has been a fav of the boys and has no head feathers left. Looks like a vulture.

Got the insulating done except for the stairwell.

Need to measure and get some sheeting. Garbage day better get movin!

It is sort of silly that BigZ is so close and is having tractor issues...... and with the tractor in the garage all fixed up I think the DH might like a challenge (besides the stinking Jeep that is....)

Brrrr..

Dang it is cold out. I should have my morning chores done and I am sitting here on the computer refusing to get going. My birds are probably blue streaking about now. The chicks are quiet finally. I did not sleep well with all that racket. The coffee after dinner did not help. My DH insists he be served dinner after 7. Not a fan of such late night eating and mess. Needless to say last night I just piled the mess and have that to look forward to this morning. One more cup and I need to get going. Stay warm and dry all ..I plan a day in today.

My teenagers are into art, drawing things & putting them into picture frames (I pick up nice frames for them at yard sales & thrift stores), homemade jewlery, and etc... do you think it would be okay if we set up a table with some of their stuff to sell? I don't have a problem growing them up and eating them, I guess. But my husband had better learn quick fast and in a hurry how to do the butchering, cuz I ain't pulling guts out! {{shudders}} My friend at work told me they just got some chickens about a month ago too, and she said her uncle gave them 7 roosters and 5 hens. She said they MOSTLY get along, but she had to kill 6 of the roosters the other day. They ate one and put the other 5 in the freezer. She said they won't leave the hens alone and they're getting beat up and have a lot of feathers missing and are just running them ragged. So she felt sorry for them and figured all they really need is the 1 rooster anyways, so they butchered them. IDK I suppose I could always take them somewhere to have them butchered, but IDK how much that'd cost and I think that kinda defeats the purpose of raising chickens. You're supposed to not have to pay for your food! LOL!

Delisha - planning a day in would be soooo nice! BUT! It IS Friday, folks! And that means payday. And that means I need gas, groceries, run errands, plus I gotta save SOME of it for chickens! LOLOL! I have to go in to work early again today for another meeting. That makes THREE meetings in FOUR days! WTH??? And next week I switch to days for 2 possibly 3 weeks. That's gonna hurt.

PsyP- I am with you on the payday activities! I've got to get groceries, gas tank refill, cat litter, and hopefully buy some more jeans for DD12. My mom is coming today, so I've got to get some things that she likes to eat! When we butchered our first roo, it really hurt. I was crying for the day and DH was down. But after that it didn't bother us the same. It still hits me that I'm killing something, but I don't hold on to that feeling past the butchering anymore.

Del- that DH of yours...good thing he is so sweet, eh? If we ate after 7pm every night DS9 wouldn't ever eat as his bedtime is 7:30pm. I might actually get some weed pulling done today. I find that the weeds come out most easily on a day like today. I bet you'll need a nap today after all that racket?

Well, I got the floors mopped already this morning so the house smells like vinegar and the bathrooms cleaned last night. After I get back from Deli's, I need to clear out the playroom for my mom. Also, since it looks like my dad will be here sooner than I thought, we need to get DS moved from his room into the playroom and get his room cleared out for my dad (this will not be done today however).

Ok...must get moving again, coffee is cold, stomach is rumbling, and I'm still in my pjs and leaving in 20 minutes.

Bigz cool beans on the Toms! BFF called to tell me he limited out on crappies yesterday.

Calling the guy who is fixing my 20 hp merc today. He's slow but good. Get that Fiord runnin! Used mine to move the gravel and composted manure piles a couple of weeks ago was surprised they weren't frozen. Really nice looking cage there Jim! Nice looking babies too everyone. Wish I had a broody. All I'm going to say about eggs is that it was a normal day.

CRS has set in. Cool day today headed back upstairs to insulate.
