Judge, see if you can get your mitts on some of those giant spools from the utility company, I know someone who uses those for her goats to play on. Maybe get some junk pallets and build a bridge....

If you build a bridge for goats, doesn't a Troll move in under it? That's what I think anyway, and would argue with anyone who would be lured in. Get it?

Good morning all, feeling a bit less wretched today, thank heaven! John, sorry for your loss and yes, it's always a blessing when the suffering of a loved one ends.

All this talk about goats, gosh how I'd love to have a couple again. Had one given to us years ago, she was tiny when we got her and she shared the back yard with our dog, sleeping in the dog house with her. Then she learned to climb the chain link fence, although she wouldn't run away, she'd go sit and the front door and "knock" until we let her in. Apparently she was a bit upset that the dog was allowed in the house and she wasn't. The ONLY way to get her to the backyard again was let her walk through the house, she'd peer in each room, take the occassional bite of a houseplant then happily return to the back yard and be content for about a week. Sadly the dog learned to climb the fence watching her and had to be chained up after the 3rd citation for her running loose! Finally built a 6 foot high fence off the lean to where her stall was and had no more escapes. We would let her out to play in the yard with the dog and the kids. She loved to play hide and seek and tag. What a gem she was! She ate hay and goat food and in the summer I would walk down the lane and cut tender young branches, which she devoured and she had a great fondness for swiss chard.

Our neighbors up the road just lost about 55 dairy goats in a fire, so sad, I loved their goats. They put a swing up for the goats... one of those rubber seated ones, and they used to flop over it and give themselves a ride, hysterial to watch! One of their males escaped from an enclosure near the woods last summer and he's been running around here since then happy as a lark with a bunch of turkeys. Not sure how he survived the winter, but he was sighted two weeks ago doing quite well.

All this goat talk is really making me want goats again... I miss having them around, they are so entertaining and great weed-eaters. Of course they are curious, destructive, don't want to stay fenced in...BUT they are awesome just the same! My husband is very surprised I haven't made him put up a goat pen yet...

Psycho Peeps - I just want to say. Be very careful what you buy at these auctions. Your lible to bring something nasty home with you. A friend of mine used to go all the time till his whole flock got whiped out by a disease he brought home. He had to even excavate all the ground where his chickens are. Now he only brings new chickens in in egg form for the most part, or from a flock he knows is closed. All I'm saying is to be very carefull.

It's a beautiful day today! Got the bedding refreshed in the coop this morning and since work hasn't sent me a huge load of stuff to do, I may just get somewhere on my garden. It's nice working from home sometimes.

Good day to all,,, I took the day off today to get a few things done,, Yesterday when I got home I went to the coop and found my last buff orp DOA

That mink had cornered her during the day and caught her..[ I free range during the day and lock up at night] I closed off any and all holes or cracks to avoid a nigh time attack so the vermin countered with a daylight assault. So,,,,,, late yesterday aft noon I provide several opportunities for the guilty party to turn himself in,,,[if you no what I mean] Wa la seems as the though the guilt was to much to bear ,,,,,, or the free vittles were to good to pass up..... cause this morn in ,,,,,,,,,,, I am happy to report that justice has been handed down...... It seems as though the coward just couldn't t live with the guilt,,,,,,, took his own life he did,, that worked better than I thought it would,,, Had to to go and remove the 6 or 7 other options I had set-up for him to choose from,,, before I let out the few remaining {shaken in there boots ] Girls I ve got left,, out for the day,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I should add I gave them [ the vermin] fair warning.. Now lets get back to building some outdoor chick pens,,,, they gotta get out of the house today,,, its them or ME?

THEY GOTTA GO!!!!!!!

Congrats on your vermin capture! I trapped one years ago that was hanging around the chicken enclosure and had him stuffed as a warning to any others who might try it. Saved me digging a hole for him, too! During one of my "dig out" phases I sold him on eBay and got my taxidermy money back.

Glad you got the weasel. I forgot scott told me to offer you a trap incase you didnt have one. Are you short on eggs? I have plenty if you would like some. I know you are not short on chicks ;-)

Are you building a pen today? We (scott) built them coolest brooder last night. Our other one is currently used

Too hot and sunny for this fair-skinned Irish girl to be outside for long today so I think I'll spend the afternoon painting the hallway upstairs at the store.

The hubs is taking the rest of the week off so we can play with the garden and fencing - I'll be happy if I can at least get the fence secure and the plowing done this week. Still no disc or drag or someone to hire to do the job, though. I may have to put the chickens to work - I wonder how long it will take them to scratch up all those clods of sod?

after 54 posts,, here I am, all bug eyed and can't remember a thing I was going to say..

One of the hatching goslings gave up.. the other is drying off right now..

the goose has only two out of 4 eggs left,, IDK what happened there ?? the peacock egg was one of the casualties..

I got my post digger back.. less than 24 hours.. I guess it pays to whimper a bit at the right time..,,

better get outside and do something, too nice of a day to waste the whole thing..

got the tractor tire repaired.. just needed a patch..

water pipe is still dripping.. guess I will have to break down and splice in a sleeve..
