Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Slowly getting ready for the weekend, but we need to get through this one first! So much to do and so little time to get it done in!

BF, we can figure something out. You can't let my kids down! Judge, you can come too but leave those bugs at home!

Not much to report here..... some noob was lighting off fireworks at 3:45 this morning. Normally not a big deal but when you have to get up at 4:30 it is........

I am going to try and get the kids to work on the grass patch in the front yard AKA my flowerbeds..... needs to be tackled before the Bash.

Anyhoo, I need to head out the door. Stay safe everyone!

Happy Weekend everyone! Heading to Milwaukee today to see my mom and an old friend. hubby was supposed to come with us, but he is sicker than a dog. Dont want him hacking all over everyone, so he gets dog duty.
Otherwise hoping the rain stops because I have stuff I really need to do in the garden, including planting!!
Got my nettle patch pulled yesterday. My friend jokes she could make a fortune because there are people that buy it all the time. I just hate the stuff!

I now have two broodies...sigh... only got 4 eggs yesterday from 13 girls. dont know what is going on. Tried to break the one broody, but she wants nothing to do with it. Anywhere I move her, she sets and she almost acted like she enjoyed the cold water bath. silly girl
Going to move the teenagers in this weekend too if weather looks nice.

ok I need to hop in the shower and get the kiddos moving to see grandma! have a good weekend

Morning all,
Just popping in while things are warming up outside. Another frosty night. Wow Jim, that is going to be some top drawer greenhouse! I also had no idea sliding door glass was so strong. Hmmmmmmm, might have to rethink my own roof idea. Ok, got a call and my daughter and family are going to daytrip up here from Illinois on Monday so I really have to get things ready so I can get the chicks outside!

Desperately needing another cuppa so bbl!!!

Good morning all..

The garden is looking good. Not to many weeds to pull so far. I am sure in a month I will be cursing the weeds. It is a bit cold out for the new chicks but they seem to be fine. Some doing better than others. Makes me nervous when you see them all puffed up trying to keep warm, all huddled up. I hope last night was the last of the cold snap.

I hope my list is done for next weekend. I am sure I will forget something.

Have a great day..

good morning, Annie volunteered to make the cowboy beans... I wonder what she wants me to do in return ?? I am scared..

we have our shopping list ready for Jung.. so of course, they are closed today.. I am going to try ordering online..

Ski is alive and well..

I have lots of Buff Orpington pullet chicks,, they will be over 4 weeks old by the end of the month..

Zeke, anytime you are in the area, you are welcome to stop in and visit. I am always up for a lunch/breakfast meeting..

today is the day the keets should be hatching.. I gave them only 26 days,, when I give them 28 days, they always show up 2 days early.. so I will not get worried for 2 more days if they do not start hatching ..

I HAVE to get going on setting these new eggs.. they are piling up.. there are 7 cartons setting here..

TerriO, I have waited as long as a week to set eggs.. I don't like to do that, though.. (although I am pushing it this time.).
I once talked to a lady who collected for a month regularly .. I would never try that..

Marlene collects for about 2 weeks, but her hatch rate is way low on keets..

the birds can get away with it, but we are not that skilled..

Today or tomorrow, Marlene is bringing a couple of dozen eggs for me to hatch for her.. I have a nest box of hers that I have to repair for the eggs she gave to me.. I had better get that done today so she can take it home with her..

sometime I have to haul a couple of scoops of compost chicken sh!t to the green house site.. then I can commence building the walls.. I got the wood chips all around the perimeter yesterday.. I hope to let grass grow in the chips and form some sod.. It worked along my driveway..

The apple blossoms are fully opened.. looks like my early morning spraying saved them,, or else they weren't frosted that bad.. either way,, I am a happy camper..
I have not noticed a lot (any) bees in the blossoms.. that has me concerned .. of course, I did not spend all day under the tree, looking..
on the shady east side of the tree, there weren't any blossoms.. but I am not going to cut down my pine trees just for a few extra apples.. we should have plenty with half the tree bearing,,

I'm really impressed with all you guys pre-planning for next weekend. My brain can't function that far in advance.

I've got to clean the chicken room. I also think I'm going to open the brooder in the coop and let the teenagers out to wander. I'm sure they will just hide from the big ones. But it's some transitional time before I kick them out and move some others out there.

Apparently today is naked day. My youngest keeps stripping down, running around, and jumping on his mini trampoline. In case anyone else out there didn't realize and needed an excuse for a naked day, there it is!

I'm going to just sit here and drink some coffee, watch a naked boy, and think about what I can get done before work! Have great day!!!

HI ALL!

Jim... Hope you saved your blossoms! Sounds like a great start on the greenhouse.

vicki... cute pics!

Psyco....unless you chicks are looking weak, I think they will be fine.

GR&RW... They are due this weekend, I'll let you know when they hatch. I'm going to ask $10 ea. to you good people. Hatcheries are asking $10- 15 and you have to order a bunch and pay for shipping. I do want to keep a couple at least for a few weeks.

BBP.... Congrats on the chick!

BigFam....Hope you can make the bash!

judge... Sorry about your hen.

Well, 2 more eggs hatched! The one she had been pecking I pulled. Full term chick inside dead. Guess she tried to save it. The membrane was just too tough I guess. I left one more egg in there but I don't think it will hatch. 2 more broodys should hatch by Bash time. At least one turkey should hatch hers. The one in the coop has 3 turkey eggs and 4 hen eggs

Well, my youngest and his friend decided to pick up a hobby my son learned a couple of years ago.... first attempt on his own.... first try for his friend......

Fire Spinning!

He has a friend that learned it and when he moved to Hawaii got a job with a group doing it.
Yes, they bonked themselves a couple of times and Jon got some stray hair singed, but no burns! Yes, the hose was at the ready!
Our new neighbors are getting married today, (Sat) and they are having an after party at the house. They asked if Jon and his friend wanted to come over and do some spinning. She learned ow too and has some semi-pro gear.

Night All!

That's awesome!

Del, can you tell from the pic if this one will be blue or black? It seems much lighter than the other one. And has yellowish on the bum and wings. AND a much smaller comb and waddles! Fingers crossed.
