Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Don't let Jim him scare you away from the Cheeseheads page. You are afraid for your birds and doing what you think is right and reacting in a way that a lot of people probably would. If you want to pursue finding the seller to warn them IF the test comes back positive for a contagious disease I think that is responsible of you. As a breeder I would want to know if something like this happened so I could get my birds tested and not spread any more disease. If they already know they have it, they need to know that you are aware of them selling sick birds.

don't make me out the bad guy here,, I merely stated a few facts to consider.. he jumped down my throat and anybody who knows me knows that I will not back down.. I seriously doubt that this person actually had this happen at all.. I have seen such stories come and go before.. they show up. rock the fing boat and then disappear..

go back and re read my original post about all this.. I never said do not pursue it.. He/she said I said it.. I just pointed out that even in tested swaps, this can happen..

I know I am not as knowledgeable as the rest of you, but I have been around the block..

Good Evening To Everyone....I'm going to stand by the Brinsea 20 as being a superior incubator.

What was your RH ...during lockdown....mine holds rock steady...give it the water it needs...follow the directions...Im not about to argue....I feel sorry for brinsea....its not their problem if someone can't follow their instructions and expect good results. Post your complaint on the incubation thread....lots of brinsea lovers there, that are willing to argue with you. I LOVE MINE! And recommend buying one.

More weeding today...the spuds are hilled for the first time....I didn't get everything done in the first garden, but I good a handle on it.

Wanna come build for me Jim? Good food and all the beer you can drink...afterwards of course.
How about a free ride to and from work? What else will it take? Nice pics, by the way.

Love Ya All...Be Safe...bigz

It's possible to still follow the rules and have disease brought into a swap. Birds only need to be pollorum-typhoid clean. This is why I don't show my birds anymore.
But maybe you're referring to them not keeping proper track of their vendors when you say they weren't following the rules. I do think its important to contact the seller and let them know what is going on. They may not realize that they have a repiratory disease in their flock. Or maybe they don't care, in which case it should be made known to others who this person is so that they can be avoided when looking to purchase chicks.
Good post. I agree in tracking them down if you can. I also agree with reporting. It is pretty hard not to know if you have MG. The dead body's would give it away. Responsible animal husbandry has to start somewhere.
Quote: Jim,

I realize you do not like anyone challenging what you say.
No one was jumping on anyone. Sometimes what is typed is not intended. there are no inflections in a flat surface.
I have read everyone words. One is grieving and the other one is supportive.

hmmm free beer ,,, just how hard and long would I have to work ? I like short hours and long breaks..

I sold 9 laying hens (all barocks) and 3 keets tonight.. all non tested.. this is about the 10th time this guy has bought from me in the past few years.. likes my stock, he said.. well, he should,, I let him pick out which ones he wants..

I am going to sell my two peacocks and one hen.. think I will put them on C List ..
How does $75.oo/each sound ? If I can't sell them all,, I won't sell any..

Jvls1942 for starters I'm not a feline or anything with claws for that matter. I didn't come on this site to rattle anyone's cage but only to find help. Im not a breeder nor am I educated very well in poultry as I've found out. Im rather very ignorant in the species until recently. I've apparently been very lucky for the past 20 years to only lose birds to critters and old age. Pure luck I'm understanding. I'm only trying to get to the bottom of this so other ignorant people like me aren't taken advantage of and have to go thru such horrific terror. My birds are my pets, I don't eat them. They just give me a bonus of a nice egg sandwich or easy over and toast.

And occasionally I'll get eggs for potato salad. I purchased some different breeds as I wanted to play around with genetics and see what I could get by crossing my lavender orphington. I bought a Brinsea 20 recently to play with hatching. I just thought maybe down the line I could make some nice colored/patterned chickens and sell chicks to help pay for my chicken obsession.
It feels pointless to try and explain myself but I feel I should as I'm new and you all seem to know each other. I don't plan on going anywhere as for months I have come to this site and have gotten ALOT of great information but recently decided to become a member.

Good evening! Took the kids to the beach tonight to watch the "big kids" play volleyball. We had a fun time. Grilled some brats and played in the sand. When their Dad came to get them (late) he said that he sure is glad that I am their sitter! That made me feel pretty good...if not well paid, at least I am appreciated. Only takes a little bit to make me happy!

Hey Jim--just how many times have you been around the block? As Frenchie says, "Inquiring minds want to know!" LOL! Great pics of the building! You guys do good work. How in the world do the two of you get the trusses up there to set them up? I am picturing hanging them upside down (like the one) and then flipping it upright? Am I close?

Cuties has done a wonderful job with my hatch. She sent me pics of each group separately! It looks as though the Buckeye roo IS doing his job Bigz...at least we got 6 chicks out of the dozen or so I sent...there is some weird thing going on with them though...but I think it is not the eggs from the birds from you. I took a look at them and realized that I have one hen that is marked...I got her from someone else! I am going with that seeing as you have not had problems with your chicks from that line. Next hatch I will be doing an experiment (again) I love to experiment!

I dont know if I said that I had a chick that hatched outside that wasnt keeping up...I brought it in. It is a NN in charcoal grey. ANyhow, it was only walking on one foot(this was when someone had one with a slipped tendon) I dont know if that was what it was or not and seriously thought about culling it. I did some manipulation and it was worse. Then is started to walk with it's toes curled under but using the leg. The next day it straightened out the foot and was limping. Three days later I cannot even tell that it was ever lame! Dont know what happened...DD says that slipped tendon is caused by a Magnesium(?) deficiency so I wonder if it started getting enough as it started eating more?

I have a few pics to share with you all now:
Biggest hatch EVER! I think she has 21...but maybe she stole a few from some of the other Mamas that hatched today. I have another with 4, one with 7 and one with 8.

She was so exited to find this little egg!

We were visiting at my friends' house. He is another guy that can build anything he sets his mind to. THis is his coop/pig pen. Ni pigs this year so he had his meaties in there. He built it all by himself!

Guess it's that time again...gotta head out and do some feeding. I hope the ducks keep their babies safe tonight...now is when the preds start coming...they are kidding about the expression "a sitting duck."
Talk tomorrow! TerriO

How thirsty are you Jim?...the workload is major minor...does that make sense? focus on the minor part....my coop isn't that big.... but the beers are tall ones though..LOL!
