Hi all. Need some advice- well some of you know that I had a horrible experience with my last hatch. The mom left her chicks and one was pecked to death and the other was hurt pretty bad. I said I was never doing another broody hatch but decided to give it another shot since I have an empty coop for her to be alone in. so I moved five eggs into the new coop and put her in it with the eggs. Well she went nuts trying to get out and even cut her comb trying to escape. I am thinking I should have moved her at night but will she calm down or will she bebroken?

Judge- I have no idea as I haven't raised or dealt with broody hens, but I hope she settles down!

Krisit-how do you get your insurance to pay for CSA?

Yes she can. She is in one of the transition coops that I use for chicks so she can also see all the other chickens too. And one of the young roos was pacing in front of her coop and she was going nuts!! It was like he was mad that he couldn't get her...

hens like to pick their own nesting box/area.. let her go and see if she goes back to clucking..
then we will go from there..

roosters always react to commotion.. just hold a hen upside down so she squawks and watch the roosters go nuts..

Just a thought here but maybe you could have put the eggs under her first for a while then moved her and the eggs. After she "bonded" with the eggs..... Maybe even kept her where she was broody with the eggs and moved her to a secluded area closer to lockdown ???

I know! You'd think I would have learned by now... When you say let her go do you mean let her out and see if she goes back to the main coop? Should I give her the eggs or let her sit on new ones?

Fish Fry Friday To Everyone....we didn't set up the outside cooker tonight. We were afraid the rain might show up...which it didn't. We had Haddock and scallops baked in butter with fried potatoes, fresh cole slaw and dark rye bread. The fish and scallops were perfection...the Leinenkugel's is tall and cold.

My advice ghost is to set the temp at 99.3...it will run between that and 99.6....the perfect temp range for the brinsea...at lockdown take a wet wash cloth and lay it in the bottom of the bator and into the channels fill the channels completely full of water...the vent is important and must be at least 1/3 open during hatching....keeping RH during incubation should be between 40% & 50% and during hatching 65% or more....Check the 4 screws on the cradle...they should be snug.

We are going to Glendale next week too bl4....we love the snow peas in our crab salad....i'll prolly eat a couple lbs while I pick...good stuff....and the strawberries should be good....they didn't allow picking today with all the rain we had.

Man the skeets are terrible tonight. I'm being eaten alive.

Next time (I hope there isn't one) I'm going to call the local TV News !!!!! And an Ice Cream Cone on the Drivers Seat !!! Wish I could find the flyer I had printed off at the Pets Supplies Plus in Racine.... It had the different temperatures outside and what it would be inside the car...... Must turn this house upside down.....
I'll need a list of all of your phone numbers to bail me out though if I should happen to get carried away !!!!

Those cops don't want to listen to anything you say, they say they'll take care of it .......... Where was the ticket ???
