Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!
Almost sounds like people who are "falling apart" are attracted to chickens!

Not going to say much...storm is messing with the internet. Not too worried about running the computer, it's on 2 serge protectors. Man is it slow though!

Well, guess not all good broodys make good mothers! Both of the Dom hens have abandon their chicks! The batch of 7 is about 5 weeks old and the 2 the 2nd Dom had are only about 3 weeks! I'm hoping the the Cochin (Pepper) will watch after them. They are the same age as her's and have often fallowed her by mistake. She's a better momma than she started out to be. Storkey of course is Super Mom!

Storm seems to be passing.... Night All!

'Red sun in morn, sailor's be warned'....... I see we are in for it again......

Jim, I was just stating that sometimes that happens. That was my first batch of chicks I hatched out in the incubator, and I was not even home when that chick hatched.

LM, I hope you find a good doc to see. Those are few and far between around here.......

Dang, 5:22 already?! I need to hightail it out of here....

Ghost I'm sorry you're having such a hard time right now. I think this incubation thing is bothering you a lot because you have no control over Adam's situation, you have no control over other things happening in your life, you should at least be able to control a hatch with a brand new bator.
You take great care of your birds. You pick the best eggs. You follow all the directions. But sh!t happens. Should it piss you off since you don't feel you got your money's worth? Yes! But are you so different than the millions of other people who artificially replicate the necessary elements to hatch eggs that some times work and sometimes don't? No. Sh!t happens. It doesn't even always work for chickens for heavens sakes! They have duds. They have defective ones ( which they kill and we think they're monsters for).

Your whole thing started with advice seeking. Then it went into how you do everything right, follow all the directions, and it still going wrong. Such is life. We can only listen, offer advice, and whether or not you listen it's up to you.

And Jim... I actually have had an epiphany! ( and its not even Sunday ) I think you might have a little bit of a heart in there that your feelings get hurt sometimes. Yep, it sure did sound like Ghosts only defective chickens ever came from you. That would hurt my feelings too, even if I were a 97 year old crunchy grizzled old man in sandals and a tutu.

If I ask you for advice or a question Sir, I eff!ingly well expect your answers. So put that in your stove pipe hat and smoke it! ;)

Its seems I not only found a chicken support group but also a health one. Please forgive me in advance it may take some time to get in the swing of things around here.

I am going to tell you a little about my medical problems. Seems I started having problems in my mid to late teens with joint and back problems and until recently was always told I was too young and was making most of it up. Well January 12' ( just turnedto 39) I was having severe headaches, still kept telling me I was making it all up. I had my first stroke February 12' er doc sent me home saying they didn't know what what causing it, left side if my head went numb and neck severely hurt. I was worried and went to sacred heart in Eau Claire and had a stroke in the MRI machine. Thank god I was there. They found I have Lupus. Which they said could of been culprit of previous fibro dagnosis. Also found I have too much spinal fluid in my brain which has caused me to have optic neuropothy/papillitis they haven't found out which auto immune disease is causing it. Im slowly going blind from it. Ive had more blood tests then i thought I had blood. They also found a hole in my heart buy because of the "sticky blood" caused by Lupus and the stroke haven't done anything. I've had incontinence problems and intestinal problems so had a egd and colonoscopy done February 13' they found I had colon cancer and removed part of my colon. Went to Minneapolis had tests done thankfully I have enough left it is working properly. March 12' while at a doc appt with neurologist the vein in my left arm was in severe pain. Went over to sacred heart and was having a TIA. Doctor put me on 2 aspirin a day now and found out I was suppose to be having monthly blood tests to control, never happened. Also have upper airway resistance and need tonsils uvula and nasal surgery. I also have emphysema asthma and copd now. Im sure im forgetting something. Been a very long last year for me and my family. All in all I feel as good as I can with my meds, im lucky they got all the cancer w the surgery. But said very risky of coming back so yearly colonoscopies is pertinent. The doctors up here aren't as good as I would like them to be. I feel for any of you going thru Med problems after all I've been thru.

They are quite specific on diagnosing Fybromyalgia and know a lot more about it as a specific chronic condition these days, but sadly there still isn't a lot they can do about it so running around to the doctors can be more irritating than anything else. Neurologists and rheumatologists are the specialists that handle it generally. They have come a long way in understanding but not to far in treating. All their meds have too many side effects for me to want to try them.

I am quite healthy and in shape, but for the pain

I know how you feel. I have fibromyalgia too...

STACY - WOW, all that AND Lupus?? All in such a short time span??? So...........:hugs.
Must admit I don't know much about Lupus. You must be on some crazy drug combination!!!
Chickens can be such a wonderful distraction from all our cares and troubles. Too bad you had such a rotten "surprise" happen to you and, wow, the timing just stinks!!!!

Yes, there are many chickie problem specific forums on this site but here we are just all friends who share a common love of our flocks.

OK, let's forget that I even posted..  so , a chicken that I gave to you died..  does that make me a criminal ?
You are a rare one in yourself,,  NEVER had a chicken die other than by a pred ?  that is awesome !!!!  I'm sorry that my chickens spoiled your record..

Now, you come along with more details..  I was only going with the information you supplied..    and yes,  I know you take good care of your chickens..  I only mentioned some of the things that could go wrong..  I was not accusing anybody of anything..    If you cannot handle my unsugared type of talking/typing, too bad..   and I hereby give notice..  I am not responding to any more posts..      and Mel,,  sorry if you had a chick hatch that way..  but it does not change the fact that Kim stated she peeled the shell..

I never mentioned anything  until I was asked directly..  go back and read the posts..

don't come down on me,,  I did not screw up anybody's hatch for them,,

Jim I can't believe you all of all people would think I would say or blame anything on you for your assistance, I do not see in my post where I did so, if you took it that way I'm terribly sorry, and the chicks I got from you were only mentioned because they are the only ones I have lost, I have not even lost any to a predator............ maybe that is a rare exception, but my neighbor leaves hers out 24/7 and mine are locked in at roosting time, and our preds out here have many of hers to choose from they do not need mine, plus I have 4 big dogs, and stomping horses, probably the reason I have not lost any that way.......... and just how would your giving me chicks have anything to do with my percentages? Therefor it could not possibly screw up anything.
I asked for your help because I truly value your opinion, and did not mean to implicate anything, as you know I also state everything I think I do not sugar coat anything I ain't the family friggen baker, and a lot of people do not like me because I say what I think, you are also that way, so a head bumping is expected once in a while, but this time I was only looking for answers, If I thought you ever did anything wrong I would not ask you for help at all....... but in my book you ARE THE MASTER HATCHER...there fore you should have the most knowledge in why I am having crappy hatches..........Everyone loves there Brinsea's, hence the reason I shucked out so much to own one, so it is inevitable that other reasons for a bad hatch can and do happen.... I am just trying to eliminate as many as possible, to get down to what may have went wrong.........and if that turns out to be me....I will accept that, if it turns out I got a faulty incubator I will send it back., and ask for a replacement. Now please DO NOT THINK i WOULD EVER IMPLY YOU ARE A BAD HATCHER, GIVE BAD ADVICE OR ANY OTHER SUCH THING, because you are my chicken hero, and friend, and if it ever does come to Blame anyone for anything, I will most certainly leave no if, and's, or buts about It, I will state it as such !!!! Now stop crabbing, you know I love you.............

Anyway, Now I did sell 5 dozen of my eggs to people that wanted to hatch them themselves, I put 2 calls in last night to see if they had low hatch rates also, that will tell me if I have a unseen problem with my hens or if I did something or the bator did not do what it was suppose to do...... narrowing it down to 2 things........... so later peeps..........Kim
