Quote: Go to the peafowl threads.... There is a post by "Deerman" I believe is what his username is. He was an expert on Peafowl..... He passed away last year or so and is dearly missed in the peafowl world. He had listed all of the different color combinations and what the offspring would be. Of course it may be different depending if your blue is a split or not.... let me know if you find the thread... I'd like to bookmark it as well. But for now I only have India blues...

Thanks french, im not worse or better, just much much slower. Im just suppose to keep a low stress level which never seems to work around here. If its not the animals its the kids so on so forth. Which reminds me I forgot to go do my lab work yesterday due to chicken stress, sure doc can do at appt Monday and send results.

Days aren't long enough for me to get everything done, doesn't help getting up at 9am and sitting in front of the computer until 3pm... have to let the ambien wear off !!! lol
caf.gif
Guess it really doesn't matter cause if I jumped right out of bed and started getting busy i'd be bushed by 3pm or sooner...... All of you young guys wear me out just reading what you have accomplished before 9am !!! Oh and you to TO, Delisha and VickyW.....what vitamins are you on ???? LOL

Ok Delisha, I know someone asked what LABS were a few ago but it hasn't settled in my long term memory yet.... what is it? I know I should know this !!! Arghhh !!!

CC, still not sure what sex those dang lavender Orps are !!!! lol I checked and all of them seem to have a sprout on their legs where a spur would be.... but they all don't look like roosters soooooo back to the drawing board or the waiting game...... so so frustrating... not that it really matters but geez.... Maybe I'll have to introduce each one to my buff orp that for sure is a rooster. They are about the same age.

When I see the face off I'll know... or have a better idea !!! lol

Ok, now for real my coffee break is over. To the dump we go if ET put the battery back in the truck.... he took it out and put it in the tractor which is still not running right.... neighor thinks a valve may be stuck, other then needing a complete overhaul..
Don't know why he would take the battery out when he knows we need to use the truck.... Arghhh, now he'll Btch when I tell him we have 45 min to get to the dump !!

Hey All!
We are having well pump switch issues. So I have been getting a bit of water from the farm where the horses and chickens are.
Got a boat load of rain last night.. WOW!!
The chicks here at the house have discovered the link between people = food/water/treats... its funny when they are flying at the french door that is between the front room and the living room.
They are going to Kurts Coop, a small business run by a fellow who has down syndrome. He was scammed by an unethical person who sold him "young" hens who were actually older hens past laying age.

Anyhoo, I'll be on later, I am going to take a nap.

"Unka Dan, I want to transplant grape vines.. what is the best kind of fertilizer to put into the new hole ? or none ?? I have a vine growing in the middle of the lawn,, I want to put it next to the peacock pen so it can crawl up the wire..

I have to go do something with the old grapes also. they are getting choked off with renegade raspberry .. either jerk out all the raspberry or transplant those old vines next to the peacock pen also..

I also have to learn more about starting cuttings of grapes.. I have lots of heavy rocks to use up.."

Jim my knowledge of grapes is limited (mostly to the Ripple I consumed in the '60's) but I suggest using your best compost, make the hole 3 times as big as you think they need, amend with that compost, cut the plant back by a third.. Late in a normal year to be transplanting but with this weather it should work,,,,,keep them well watered until freezeup this fall and don't expect to harvest much.
For the cuttings that time has passed you need to do that in early spring before bud break I would think,,,,keep those rocks handy.

as far as LABS for a soil additive yes it is one of many things that help,,,,there are no silver bullets in soil prep but there are a few that when used together and timed properly will turn your soil into a living, working, thing of wonder.

something as simple as a soil drench of whole milk (diluted, raw preferred) adds the lactic bacteria, molasses and simple sugars provide carbs for the "critters" (bacteria) to feast on, kelp and alfalfa meal provide not only N-P-K but a host of micro nutrients and some "magic properties", liquid fish fertilizer is high in amino acid, humic acid aids the uptake of nutrients, the list is almost endless. I have spend 30+ years learning about soils, an amazing science.

OK , I sort of thought as much.. compost is the answer to most gardening questions..
I once heard/read that a handful of whole oats in the bottom of a hole does something beneficial when planting trees... I suppose it won't hurt, eh?

I have 20 more guinea eggs to set.. I gave Marlene 58 keets today.. she gave me 20 eggs for myself to hatch.. have a goose egg pipped. it is the one I put into the bator a couple of days ago.. the goose quit her nest..

Hey Unk !!!!

I checked Fleet Farm and they didn't have the stirup hoe...... any other place up in this neck of the woods that has one that you know of ?
Thankst
I checked there, also - just this past Wednesday. No one seemed to know what the heck I was talking about. Next time I'm in Appleton or Stevens Point I'm going to check the stores there to see what they have. I was going to buy myself a present but I settled for an ice cream cone on the way out.
