Terminated a coon here this morn. Yesterday it took one of my broody hens. At least the chicks (Legbars) were able to escape. They're in the brooder now. It's neverending. I hear ya on the humidity today too, UGH.
I'm going to try very hard to suck it up to inject tylan. That's a big step!
When giving Tylan I draw it out of the bottle with a needle and syringe, then take off the needle and squirt it into the birds mouth. No sticks.

Yay Babies!! Something else new... did you bring home one of those adorable kitties??

Who was it that posted the picture of the Hoe at Menards ????

Well, we were there last night and thought I would look AGAIN at Menards.....
wee.gif
I found one. They had two, almost bought one for ET but they weren't on sale and were $14.99

As I was leaving the garden center an nice little old man asked me if I worked there (I get asked that a lot, intense shopper syndrome lol) I said no.... what are you looking for.....(always willing to lend a hand (but no other body parts).... he said rakes and pointed at my hoe !!! I said this... Yes he said ... Just like that..... So I pointed down the way and now I guess Rhinelander Menards doesn't have them.

Online I think it was called a swivel hoe.... at store it's an action hoe !!! Only on here with your minds it the gutter is it a stirrup hoe !!!!! LOL

Stay tunned for the next episode......

So yesterday we had the farrier over to trim the horses and donkey feet....... Hotter then H3LL and humid and FLYS galore !!!!!

He got 3 donkeys and 3 horses, (3 out of 13) and was going to come back next week for the rest. Then on the way out he stopped at the jack donkeys pen and was going decided to do him. Got one one front hoof nearly finished and BAM !!!!! I was afraid of that........ This is the first time Danny has had a trim since we got him and he was not pleased that is was being done. Not the worst I've see with donkeys but they don't give any notice that they will strick...

He clobbered the farrier right on the cheek bone !!!! He was in severe pain... Chuck ran in to get a bag of frozen veggies. Then gave him some aspirn for the pain.... Then sent the rest of the bottle home with him because all he said he had was ibuprophen... Can't mix the two......
Paid him and gave him an extra tip..... Even paid him for doing Danny... I'll have to work on him this week to teach him some respect.... otherwise he is a real nice donkey, you would never know he is a stud jack.
Going to look into some sort of hobbles.... and maybe use something like that next week on the donkeys.....Just so he can only kick so high if he tries to...

Lisa... does you DH have any suggestion on how to trim donkeys that might kick... or precautions???

It didn't help that my farrier was proably tired, and hot when he attempted Danny.....

Ok, I know the suspense is killing you all..... no I didn't come home with a kitten.... OMG were they cute though.... ET said he'd shoot it if I brought home a cat, and it's a HUGE NO on a chihuahua so I didn't bring home one of those.... And I didn't bring home a wiener dog either. Both of those girls went to their new home yesterday (same home too)!!!! Yippee !!!

well after 2 weeks of being away, sorry, but there is no way I am going to read all the posts
barnie.gif
too many to process. So those of you who chose to read this will just have to bear with my own ramblings of what is going on in my world :)
2 weeks in Tulsa, is a long time! Long time to be away from family, from work, your garden and a long time to trust the teenager to care for your chickens. The show went great, got some individual placings and a couple top tens. It's been awhile since I have been at that caliber of a show, I was reminded that I dont' have a 60,00.00 horse, a 20,000.00 saddle, a 4,000.00 show outfit or a trainer to hop on my horse, tune it up and send me in the ring to win. Part of me is in awe, part of me finds it really ookey and part of me is quite happy with what I have and VERY happy to have placed not needing all that other stuff

Upon arrival to home, I am still trying to FIND my rows in my garden..sigh... apparently the "lets surprise mom" gene does not exist in my children or their father........bigger sigh....
The chickens are all alive!!! their coops were a bit messy and they have been fed/watered although, I don't think it was done to my usual twice a day standard as they nearly attacked me for the first few days I was home feeding and watering them... MY GOODNESS! but they seem no worse for the wear.
I tried to make one of those 5 gallon bucket waterers, bought a lid, drilled the holes, set it all up and had water run all over my newly cleaned an bedded coop!!
hu.gif
it looked so easy in the video...........HELP!!!! Save me from my own DIY mistakes!!

Looks like the peep peeps, who are now quite full grown 14 week olds will be heading in with the older hens tonight. Big fence will be finished tonight, so hold on to all your feathers girls and boys YOU are now one big happy family! ~~ looks like I have 1 black copper maran rooster, 1 olive egger rooster and 2 americauna or olive egger roosters.... look more like blue americaunas than anything else.......but with the cross, not sure. There might be more, but these I know for sure. The one crowing like an old Studebaker horn has practiced up while I was gone and sounds like a real rooster now!! LOL The 14 weekers sure seem a lot less personable than my older hens. Hope the girls understand....

well better get back to work. Gotta go buy more feed after work, those "teenager" peep peeps are eating a TON!

Cheers all:) can't wait to keep up again. Hope everyone is having a great summer, eating great fresh strawberries, drinking the beverage of choice and enjoying the sunshine!

welcome back home and congrats on the placements

TO--- I set the eggs when I got home all but the two torpedo's. I set those today. So if I get more toes on the later hatch..you will know it is your torpedo layer. I usually do not check for fertility until later. i will let you know what ones are fertile too.

Oh, come on frenchie!

Did you bring home a poodle????
Did your sis get both doxies???

Are you the new mom to some big dogs?

Come on...
Ok..... I'm going to try this again...... I lost my whole post....... the whole $hitin KaBam about what I brought home !!!

Ok, so I'll shorten it up, cause I need to go outside.

Back to Monday, at the clinic.... waited with Baited Breath for the shelter person to come pick up the animals so I could quiz her about the doxies.

Found out.... they both were going to a new home Weds... that's good they went together, I know my sister wouldn't have taken two, so for the best... sure were cute though.

Asked about the black pug... he was going to a new home as well...... good !!!! Don't know why I ask...... I'd take them all if I was born rich instead of beautiful..... LOL

Anyway then I had to ask... like I always do....... Do you have any poodles over there at the shelter? Expecting a ... No.... she said .. No... BUT tonight one is coming in....... I asked what time... she said 4am.......

Here is the scoop.... someone in Rhinelander or area works for Delta Airlines and loves animals (obviously eh), Then there is someone rich and famous (may be a celebrity) in California that funds the effort out there.
They ship out dogs to shelters in other areas because all of the dogs they ship out were strays and were held for 3 days and if they weren't claimed or placed they were put down.... IN 3 DAYS !!!

So Rhinelander got a bunch of dogs in Tuesday morning around 4AM. I asked it it was a boy or girl. She had no idea, no paperwork, ziltch, just call back Tuesday she said.
Well it was a long night, then couldn't call until they opened at noon on Tuesday....
So Tuesday headed to Rhinelander of EKG and doc appointment... When the clock struck Noon, I was on the phone..... She had no idea if it was a boy or girl since it was at the groomers....... Not sure but thought it was a poodle/maltese mix......... Ok,, told her I would stop after my doc appt.

So I go to the shelter and we walk to the back together........ and to my surprise.... It's a GIRL !!!

And I don't know how but some how the young man there twisted my arm into filling out an application !!!! So I hung around for a while, disappointed that he said it could be a week... I'm not patient when it comes to stuff like this.... anyway, talked to a lot of the volunteers there.... one that fostered those lab/pitt pups. She did a great job, they are wonderful dogs....hint hint hint...
And there are tons of kittens looking for homes.......hint hint !!

If anyone wants a chihuahua or two they have them. A little chocolate boy, a tan girl and a carmel color little boy, cutier then $hit.... she was calling him a wirehaired chihuahua.. Obviously a mix but was he a cutie pie.
So I left wondering what I was going to tell ET......to my surprise he wasn't surprised....... LOL

So now we are on Wednesday.... the day after I met the little girl.... the day the farrier got kicked in the face...... I didn't hear anything from the HS like I was hoping cause the the girl who runs the shelter said she might get some paperwork in yesterday.....
So ET and head down to Antigo to get some feed and supplys and a new battery for the truck... It was almost 5pm.... I get a voice mail message from the HS saying that they had the poodle/maltese spayed and there would be someone there later then normal if we wanted to come get her !!!!
ep.gif
Sounds like they really wanted to get her into a home instead of recovering at the shelter.

So she said she would wait for us until 7pm.
So literally ran through Fleet Farm. Also picking up a two doored med kennel, kennel bed and the rest of the crap we needed and headed back north and shot over to Rhinelander.
Wouldn't you know it we get there at 6:50pm and it started raining like cats and dogs !!!! How appropriate hey? LOL

Walked in and there was our little girl laying in a bed in the office. ET liked her (his mom rescued her first poodle years ago too)
Took ET to the back room to see the other little dogs and then went and did the paperwork...... They she asked if we would be in a photo with the dog. She said one of the woman who is involved in the rescue here or in CA (not sure who) likes to see pictures of the dogs and their new families......
We were all grubbed out... I asked ET.... my hair up or down !! LOL Hey, you don't know who will see that picture !!!! Especially if it's being sent to California !!! LOL

I asked her if she found out any more about the little girls background..... The vet that spayed her said she looks to be about 1 yr old.
She supposedly was running the streets of SanBernadino(sp) for three weeks before they could catch her. Then she was at the shelter for the three days, then went to the rescue for shipment to WI????? Not sure exactly how all that works witht he airlines and who in CA is doing what they are doing all I know is that there certainly are Saints here on Earth !!!
This pood dog had to be shaved very short since she was so matted. She probably was never groomed her whole life.
She snarled at Butt Dog (probably knowing Butts is the Queen Bee around here) but nothing major. Butts and Dolly could care less...... Now what did Mom bring home ??

I had gotten some dog beds for only $4.99 at Foster & Smiths a few weeks ago. I even went back and bought all of the rest of them so we'd have them in each vehicle.... good thing I did... I put it in her kennel (barely fit) and she is sound asleep right now..... it is like a small sofa.....

Now to just think of a name......I'll post my ideas later....

So there !!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!

Oh, and I forgot to mention in this post (it was in my deleted post) that she is maybe between 10-15lbs.. long long legs (didn't think maltese have long legs) and long long nose..... (not used to long nosed small dogs) Plus they left the nose hair long so it makes it look longer !!
I said if she was a boy he'd be called Jimmy Durante' (sp)

So that just gave me a name Idea..... Barbie..... as in Barbra Streisand (again sp) LOL

Oh and get this.... she was a steal !!!! As we were pulling out of the parking lot I looked down at her and was about to tell her...... that she was the best $105 I've ever spent when the light came on ......... WE DIDN"T PAY !!!! OMG........ pushed ET out of the truck to flag down the girl as she was just about to pull out too !!!!!

Geez... she said she was so excited for us too !!!!! Not the usual pet adoption at 7pm I'm sure...

Anyway, for $105 I got a beautiful poodle/? mix little girl that came Spayed, Rabies,Distemper/combo shot/ Microchipped AND a Brand New Collar and Lead (who cares if it is blue, we know she is a she !!! lol) and she was groomed but lost the bow at the shelter someplace.....and some coupon deals at Pet Tango...

Not bad !!!!
