A couple of FF questions, Delisha??? First, stirred my bucket last night, even added more water and it was fine. This morning the water cover was gone. I poured more water in right away to cover and stirred. There was a lid on the bucket. Any harm done? It was bubbling away this afternoon.
Question #2. How do you figure out how much to feed each bird???
VIcki--I can answer this! It is FINE and long as it smells OK. Just remember to add a bit more water next time...it sucks up a bunch doesnt it? As to the amount, Vicky told me that they should clean it up in about 20 mins. (at least I think she said 20...maybe it was 15?)

This is just my opinion

1. No harm done..just add water when you notice it is not covered. Sometimes if it is a long time uncovered it will get a little grey on top, just stir it in and add a bit of water.
2. 5 minutes of feed time twice a day if you free range or 15 minutes of feed time if they are caged birds.
Each birds eats differently and needs a different amount. If you put the feed down for 5 minutes and than take it away and dump it back into the bucket, it teaches them to eat than. If they are free ranging or have access to grasses and plants, those are better for them this time of year than grains.

I feed 1/4 lb of feed for each layer= about a 1/2 cup
I feed 1/2 lb of feed for broody's with chicks/ducklings
I free feed chicks until they start to (controlled) free range (6 weeks) than they get fed 1/4 cup per chick 2x a day.

I hope this helps.

We took the kids to Valleyfair amusement park today. My 7 yr old was just exactly 48", the height needed to get on all the rollercoasters. She had so much fun. It was perfect. The weather forecast called for thunderstorms so there were barely any people there. And it didn't storm, but was cloudy. So we avoided all the long lines and were not baking in the hot sun. It couldn't have been any better. Plus a friend got us a killer deal on tickets.

Thank you both for help, it is greatly appreciated!!! I put some out for them and they like it, but they seem to be "nibblers". Grab a few bites every little while. I like the idea of training them that NOW is supper time.
A half cup each per bird? Wow, did I make too much starter FF !!!

You are funny Jim--glad I could teach an "old dog" new tricks! I thought you said she was coming from Oconomowoc...She shoulda called my friend--she is selling her males for $35! She is trying to get out of them too...her DH hates that greasy black poo they leave in his garage. I think she is stuck with the last one though...he wont come into that garage any more cause that is where we caught them to catch them...guess they are smarter than chickens?

You said ya cant make any $$$ is you have to pay for ads...you mean you CAN make some if you dont have to pay? I need to learn your system. I dont think I EVER make any money with my birds!
People just came for ferns...they took LOTS! I am glad, now I can almost see the fence. WHo was coming from here to get some? Was it you Cind?...lots left!

Just saw the time...gotta call the feed mill! Later! TerriO
feed the ferns to the goats. they love em and they are free. My neighbor does, and her goat keeps them at bay.

I just realized what an odd bunch of birds I have in my garage brooder right now. Bantam chocolate orps, a swedish flower hen, call ducks, wood ducks and at night the Canada goslings go in a cage in the garage.

good early eve,, the people just left with the peacock.. they took the long way here and got lost south west of Mosinee.. practically came right past our place to get there,, about 25 miles out of their way..

TerriO I was wrong,, they were from Oconto ,, way up nort.. hwy 22 to 29 ..

I have 2 guinea keets to kill.. their legs are way too bad to fix..

No I do not make lots of money selling birds.. but with the added cost of an ad, it guarantees it..
In the first place nobody wants to pay what a bird is worth,, and then there is no way to add the cost of advertising into the mix..

Tomorrow the humidity is supposed to be low, and the temps lower, too.. good ol fashion wisc weather..

I felt much better today, too.. so tomorrow I can go and overdo it..

......jim.........

Glad you're feeling spry again Jim. Hopefully you won't overdue it so bad you're flat out on your @ss cussing out the dog pile you landed in... I kinda giggled at that mental image, sorry. :D
