I have three Hershey eggs fertile, three blue eggs fertile and three Buckeye eggs fertile.![]()
My baby geese are missing! My babiesI've been crying on and off all day. I'm seriously heartbroken over this. The only other animal that I loved as much as them is the dog. Its a really rotten situation. Not sure if something grabbed them or if they wandered off. I looked for them for about 40 minutes last night and a half hour this morning. This sucks! So bad
That is truly awful BBP. I like George my gosling a lot. But it really sounds like you imprinted on those baby geese as well. It makes me sad to hear how idyllic your outings were with them and now they're missing. I'm really sad about your loss.

oh no, you misunderstand me. I used my knuckles and thumped it like a watermelon...![]()
Love starting my day with a good laugh . . .Yeah, I must have. Guess I was thining of a cucumber !!!![]()
FrenchToast: I agree with bl4 on the Kong with PB. My niece keeps a couple of PB filled Kongs in the freezer for when she needs to be gone for a longer period of time. That keeps her lab pup busy for hours. What her dogs really need is a good daily run, she has two working breeds and lives in town . . . but I can only suggestPoor Frenchie, sounds like your pup has separation anxiety..... try giving her a Kong stuffed with PB every time you leave, or a chewie, or a bone of some kind. It is a good idea to go away on short spurts and make them longer and longer if you can. No blood donating going on here, I have low iron levels so I need to hang on to all my blood!

I agree with vickiw in keeping it simple. I made myself crazy following all the good suggestions here and on various blogs and youtubes, then finally (like jumping into the lake) just dumped the food in a pail then added my water, and more water, and more water, and even more water . . . whew, yup I had quite a big batch that first time. I have one batch with chick starter and another with my layer pellets. I needed to tweak how I fed it to them. I now place a little of the dry chick starter crumbles in the bottom of their dish and top the dish off with the really wet FF. My big girls really like the chick starter better than their which is why I give them a bit of the dry crumbles but cover theirs with the layer pellet FF and a drizzle of the FF chick starter. Oh yeah, my girls are pretty spoiled - but darned happyHi FRENCHIE!!!
I learned quickly not to over complicate the FF thing. Of course you can get really into making your own feed to ferment and add all kinds of wonderful stuff but I decided to, at least in the beginning, to keep it simple. Since my pellets already has LABS in it, all I had to do was throw some in a clean plastic bucket, add water (and keep adding water as it gets sucked up to keep at least an inch or so of water on top) stir at least two or three times a day for the first couple days and watch the bubbles. I have a lid on my bucket because it's sitting on my back porch. I actually scooped some out for my girls the first night to make sure they would actually eat it, especially the babies. All mine love it! I threw in extra feed right away and that was it! I let the bucket sit until the following night and it was bubbling away so I put out a cup for each girl. They actually didn't finish it up till the next day so I've backed off a little. I also didn't add anymore dry after realizing I had plenty going. Yesterday I did throw in the last og the chick starter I had just to get rid of it. The bucket wasn't cooking that well this morning but it got pretty chilly last night. My recommendation to you is to go check out the natural chicken keeping website. Hope this helps.
Bf4m and BBP: sorry to hear about the lossesMy baby geese are missing! My babiesI've been crying on and off all day. I'm seriously heartbroken over this. Amyable: My thoughts are with you and your friend Julie.Sorry BBP, maybe they will turn up yet. I just had to cull one of the ScovyX babies, found it on the beach with its side torn up. The mama flew out of the garden today and the babies must have squeezed out under the gate, they were all in the pond this morn. I really hope we don't have a snapper taking up summer residence in there.
Wanted to let you folks know that my friend Julie who came to the Bash with me was just diagnosed with breast cancer last week. She is one tough cookie and has a kick butt attitude about it, but she and her fam could use your prayers. There might be some fundraising events as the year goes on, I will post them as they are planned. One of her other friends just made a Facebook support page for her, called Julie's Jugs Fighters, so those of us on FB can drop notes of encouragement.
erinnoie: love the pic of the chicks in the McNugget box

Yes, I am pretty excited. I wanna join the 10 toed clubGlad yours are Vicky, maybe you can join our exclusive 10 toed Buckeye club? I think it was Judy that was asking about that? For some reason one roo/hen combination I have in the buckeye pen is throwing chicks with and extra toe. Yes it is very like the one on a Faverolle. We will see how it grows out as all the babies are less than 2 months old!
Later all! TerriO
We are getting more rain..I hope the ditches I dug helps this time. It seems like it does not want to slow down. I have not let the birds out yet this morning.
