Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Today was a bummer!  The deer got over the fence w/barbed wire AND the deer fencing (the GUARANTEED deer fencing) and did some damage in the garden again last night.  He/she/they must have been in a panic to get out and just tore the fencing to pieces along two sides of the garden.  To be sure the little critters didn't get in somehow and help themselves to a snack, I sprayed most of the plants (tomatoes, peppers, what's left of the cabbage, cauliflower, beans, peas, etc) with a mix of some organic essential oils.  Dang it, I didn't think the deer would get in and they nibbled on the corn - NOT sprayed!

This is war! :barnie

Oh no irish!! I know how hard you have worked on your garde :'( I hope the dammage is minimal!!
There is a duck in my living room.

I would lime to see a pic.

Today was pretty uneventfull.

I saw an ad on cl for blrw. Of coarse immediately called to check the lines. Imagine my surprise when I recognized delisha's voice!! Lolololol

Hubby got this ginormous cooler frige thingy to keep his sap in while collecting. Imagine my frusteration to find out he is putting it in our (MY) barn. Insert steamy p!ssy guy here!

Tomorrow evening is my last 4-h class :'( I hate nearing the end.

Angie bubs, cute pics. Do the chooks get pooky on their stuffed toy?! When we had sleepy, we thought she was lonely. We gave her a stuffed robin. Wrapped the wing around her.

Chickies are doing great! To's babies are really growing! Had to change some more bracelets already! I will need to run to fleet to get more at this rate!!

Long post to make up for frenchie being gone!!

Frenchie, how was the sleep study???

I love all the pics everyone ! Angie - love your coop. I was going to post a pic of my coop remodel but mine would disappear inside yours! One of my babies wound up on the wrong side of the garden fence this afternoon. Fortunately she was not afraid of being picked up so it was an easy catch, now I just have to figure out how she got there. I know Sunnyside changed their browns this year so you could get female chicks instead of just straight run, they call theirs Special Browns and its too early to be sure but mine are sure beginning to look like Isa Browns.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying our break in the heat. Just heard it's supposed to sizzle next week. nighty night. :)

A pretty nice day today..the yard is almost mowed. I will have a ton of raking to do when its done. The roof is not done and DH is taking off for a few days to help his kids.

lol..I know I am awful. I love it when he leaves and love it when he returns. All the chicks are growing well. Tons of things got done outside today. Tomatoes are getting a tiny bit of color.

had a bazillion skeeters in my hen house this week.

Thjis morning I heard maybe here, who knows, anyway, vinegar and dishsoap. I put a mason jar with these two ingredients sitting in the coop where the chickens could not get at it and tonight I went to collect eggs and NO skeeters in the coop.

Just thought I would pass along this bit of wisdom.

good eve, I was outside until 9:30 PM.. skeeters didn't bother me much.. maybe it was because of all the smoke from burning out the stump.. I started that project way late this afternoon.. I will have to go at it again tomorrow.. I got a good fire going on the stump with some old ratty cedar boards.. then I set a box fan about 2 feet from the fire and made like a blast furnace.. It worked really well,, the secret is to not let ash build up.. ash insulates and prevents burning on the stump..

I agree with you Unka Dan.. tomorrow I am going to pop the flywheel and buy a new set of points.
I have to make a wheel puller .. I made one years ago.. it is easier to make a new one than to search for the old one.. T holes in the fly wheel are not tapped, so I have to figure out what thread to tap them.. looks like 5/16 to me.,,

Marlene called.. says she is not selling many guinea keets.. but that is not stopping her from bringing me a few dozen eggs to hatch tomorrow.

nothing happening in the hatchers yet.. I am not worried.. they are not due until Friday.. I always stop turning guineas 5 days early.

had a guy call about buff orp pullets today.. wanted me to deliver them.. 30 miles one way.. no way.. He wanted their beaks clipped, too.. Do it yourself !! Oh yes, he wanted to know if they could eat grass yet.. ?? Said he would call back.. I don't think he will..

Cuties, how can I purchase your maple syrup?

You asked for a pic.

There sits Taffy. See how her wings are sort of spread out? She is doing that and she is hopping around with one bum leg. My in-laws told my DH that the ducks have not been allowed out lately since they have decided the road is a good place to hang out. Not certain if she has be bowled over by a car or if she got into something..... so she is back at home with us sitting in a dog kennel in the living room. Thank you Terri for your help today, I was getting bombarded with calls at work from my DD. We are getting ready for our internal audit so taking time to research what was going on with the duck was not possible.... oh, the blue liquid in the bowl is gatorade (which Taffy seems to enjoy quite a bit). She is drinking and eating, even chomping on snacks..... but very quiet so I know she has something going on. When she starts getting noisy I know she is feeling better. Goofy duck....

I really find it hard to believe that there are 'shelters' for chickens....... butcher the darn things already! Too many people are starving!!!

Heather, I would have grabbed my wallet and keys and headed straight out the door......... with a few choice words for the DH added in...... last time I checked, you did not make those kids by yourself. You are working ALL the time with NO breaks. Time you had one! Grrrrrrr....

Fundraiser meeting at the UW first thing in the morning and then off to work...... I should probably go to bed....

BBP your cat is upset about something...... either make it an outdoor cat or spend the $$ on Feliaway (thanks BigFam). It takes a while but eventually it does the trick....... that and a LOT of enzyme spray...... and remembering to keep the friggin bathroom door shut!

I have ONE cat that likes to make her presence known in that way........ of course she will probably end up being the very LAST cat I put down of this quartet.
I agree completely. That cat doesn't like something. It could be the litter you are using (one of my cats HATES that corn cob litter & any kind with a scent), the box, the box placement/area, not enough boxes, not a large enough box, etc. I had a long haired cat that refused to go in the box until I started using a catch-tray/pan from undernearth a rabbit cage for a litter box. For some reason, she didn't like the high sides of a litter box, and half the time she hung her @$$ over the side of it anyway.

Once we switched to the rabbit tray, she never had an issue again.

A lot of cats don't like the covered cat boxes either, because it traps the smell inside & makes it seem stronger. Kinda like a porta-potty. Other cats just like a clean box all the time. Emptying out your boxes & hosing/washing them out once in a while can help too (you don't have to do all of them at once. Have a rotation). Sprinkling some baking soda into the litter will help to absorb odors too. If you have the patience to go through the experimenting, the behavior can be corrected. It is a very common issue, but there is an answer. It is just a pain trying to figure out what that answer is. Did you say you took him/her to the vet? No medical issues? Did they do an x-ray? I had a cat that was avoiding the box due to pain from a kidney stone, and the only way to detect it was with an x-ray.

I also agree with using the Feliaway. You can get it pretty reasonably on Amazon. In any case, I hope you figure out the problem.
