Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

The butter is added to keep the foaming down.... if you have to go through all the effort to cook the fruit, why would you freeze it?

I knew you would love my early AM post BF.

Ok back to work. I do not answer chicken questions because I do not have chickens. If I could help I would!
not cooking the berries, just the pectin. So it ends up being blanched berries preserved in much sugar and a freezer. Too sweet for my taste but it does make a jam.

HI All
Going to jump on a bit early.

If you use the low sugar pectin you MUST fallow the directions they give you. Even using directions from another brand could screw it up. The low sugar pectins are made differently and each brand seems to have come up with a little different formula.

TO... can you get some drawing salve for the quail?

Colton... yep, if he can move it but is limping, just put him in a cage so he is quiet and still for a while.

My rib(s) From what I can feel, it's not out of place. Haven't coughed blood, or had sharp pain. Ribs are very forgiving and nothing can be done but wrap 'em up so you don't do too much more damage. Even at that I think the wrap is more to remind you not to do something stupid! LOL Actually, now the left rib matches the one on the right that I broke years ago.

I'll live, I'll just be very sore for a while. Watch my bending and try not to lift or carry things on my left. BTW... DH was a corpsmen for 8 years and can "patch" allot of stuff. I'm not squeamish either and picked up allot along the way. And No, as far as I know there is no free clinic in the area. Wish there was.

CU all later!

Agreed JJ...freezer jam is VERY sweet! I like my jelly, jam or pie on the tart side...so I can have ice cream with it! Ever had a jelly ice cream sandwich? Me neither but it sounds good!

Speaking of recipes...what proportions did you use for the vinegar/dishsoap mosquito concoction? I noticed quit a few in the barn when I turned off the fan.

Cind--I dont think it is an abscess...nothing but BLOOD in there. Would drawing salve work on that? I think I have some somewhere...

Out to the garden again...it is looking good!

I knew I was going to be asked about this. Ok follow this exactly or it will not be the same:

1. get a mason jar and put exactly some vinegar about half or so.
2, use exactly 1 squirt of dish soap
3. stir 23 times no more no less

all kidding aside(but only for now) You know how small my coop is about 8x8 inside and it cleared the mosquitos out completely.

your barn is big,
you might need a few.

And where are you hiding button quail at your house? I would have loved to see them.

jam is made from using the whole fruit, like strawberry..    jelly is made from just the juice like grape..

IDK why they call it apple butter, though..

follow the directions on the pectin package religiously ..Item for item, and measurement for measurement..  you will not fail..   and the grape that didn't make it last year can be reprossesed if you still have it..

Hi Jim,
It's called "butter" because no other thickening agent (like pectin) is used. In it's pure form it is nothing but apples and cinnamon tho I throw in a gallon of cider and cook it down . that way I can use just about any apples and still have a good sweeter Apple taste. I also make wild plum butter the same way but use grape juice.

hubby just discovered we have no water :barnie. Bye.
