Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Vicki, no pectin is added since apples are rich in pectin...... it is lovely stuff though. I make it in the crock pot.

Went out and had dinner tonight with an old friend. He happens to work for NPR so he does not get back here too often. Had a great time!

Taffy is really enjoying her gatorade...... DH bought a 12 pack for her. I am thinking she might possibly have a broken wing, but I need to get my mitts on her to find out for certain (and I cannot do that until after work tomorrow).

That is about it for tonight.

Mel, I have to admit I did a double take on your inner sanctum comment.
ep.gif
Well now..... I guess you don't mince words around your kiddos, hmmmm????
lau.gif
I figured you were trying to get a rise out of Bigfam.

Speaking of Bigfam, she must be awfully busy with those family pics. I can't believe I haven't heard any of her FB wrath yet on that comment I made.
big_smile.png
Oh, it'sa comin'...............

And Mel, my apologies for not mentioning your poor Taffy earlier. I am so, so sorry to hear she has something wrong. I hope you can figure it out and get her feeling better real soon.
hugs.gif
Poor baby. I just hate when animals are sick or hurt.

Amy, that is wonderful news about your chicken fairy! There sure are some great people on here. It is so refreshing to hear when someone goes out of their way to do something nice for someone else. There sure isn't enough of that in this world anymore.

Cindy, CRS strikes yet again. I forgot to tell you how much I absolutely LOVE your green goop! Last weekend I noticed I had some really red, swollen bumps on my stomach, kinda like bug bites, but nothing like I've ever seen before. They were nasty looking welts. They didn't change at all after 2 days, but then I remembered your salve, so I put some on after my shower. By that evening, the red had faded to pink. On the evening after the 2nd application, the welts really shrunk down to half their size. It was amazing what a difference there was. So thank you again!
hugs.gif
I'd really love to know how to make that stuff, btw. Not that you aren't busy enough already.
hide.gif
And I forgot I owe you a chicken.

Good thing I have some eggs in the bator. Both broodies decided to quit, or at least be part-time broodies.
smack.gif
I should have listened to that voice in my head about the 2 eggs I left with the one broody. One of them wound up getting broken and eaten, poor chickie. So the last egg is with the rest, but this hatch isn't going to be fun. It will be a staggered hatch & I've only got the one incubator. So this will be interesting................

Evening To Everyone...yep, I always forget to post what I was planning to.

Welcome Fonz...your gonna have to get married and move to the country. If you wait til your mom and dad does, it will be awhile....besides, you could allow her to keep chickens at your house in the country...

I thought you were telling us stuff Vickie..i missed the questions too.

Hope your ribs are feeling better soon Cind. More whisky in the meanwhile.

So many chicken ailments have the same symptoms in common. It can be a hard read at times.

I've never had cocci here either...I also feed medicated starter for a full 14 to 15 weeks...depending when the last bag goes empty. It has worked for me..so I stay with a plan that works for me.

Meeting at Camp tonight. A lot going on there as always.

One of the riders sprung a oil leak today. Suzie was the lucky one to get the bath....upon inspection, my fricken motor has a couple bolts that fell free...of course one is underneath and will be fun trying to get at.....did I ever mention that lawn is over rated....wish I had the money for a zero turn right now.

Frenchie....congrats on being a chicken fairy.....workin on being the best on the best list eh!

Nice pics..thanks for sharing them...talk tomorrow cuties.

Lost a few longnecks today...think a run for more less stuff is in order.

Hope I can get up and go catch some fresh fish for FFFF.

I know I forgot to post something. I always do.

I only have one question !!! How can you be a chicken fairy if you don't wear sandals? lol I don't wear sandals but I do wear socks !!!!! (get it Jim the chicken fairy that wears socks and sandals !!!)

Anyway, what a day or two around here.

Like I said the sleep study I guess went well. I couldn't get to sleep on my Dramamine, my skin was crawling, I was restlest and I had a belly ache and back ache. Finally said I needed to take an ambien.
Then fell asleep fairly quickly. Got up at 5:45am, showered to get the goop off my head and then went to McDonalds for coffee and breakfast. I think I told you all his before???? but then fell asleep in MdD's parking lot for about an hour or so.

Went to Good Will, Petco and then drove to Rhinelander to Fosters & Smith then to the bank to depost $500 cash..... (no not from robbing the bank where I slept for the sleep study) Anyway asked the teller for a deposit ticket at the drive up window. I filled it out put it, the pen and my $500 into the tube and was going to send it back when to my surprise I see the pen and deposit slip on the ground..... Upon further looking so was my money..... AND IT WAS A WINDY DAY...... I couldn't open the van door because I was next to the depositing station.... Had to pull forward, get out and literally chase my $500 down through the parking lot... The one teller saw what was happening and came running out to help..... Told her I had fetched it all !!!! Geez, that sure was a scary time !!

Then after my bank episode I drove over to the family cottage in Monico. Was nice to see everyone and especially Addie.

Then today we decide to take the pontoon boat over to the lake....... boy was that an adventure !!!! I will save that story for tomorrow........ Let's just put it this way, I know I have more then nine lives. We made a memory and a story my BIL will be bragging and sharing on FB I'm sure.

Ok, then I'm headed for bed. Going to be a busy day tomorrow as well. We're going to see my other aunt in Arbor Vita..... She is my dad's youngest sister, and Auntie Esters Sister (my Aunti Ester died at age 90 last year) Anyway, we are going to bring her some of Esters photo books to go through.
So I'll close for now cause the ambien is starting to kick in...... Plus I'm falling asleep and writing weird things !!!! Night All

Hi Again...

vicki... I don't chime in about chicken questions unless I think I ave an answer, no answer means I don't know
idunno.gif
Hope the water wasn't a big problem!

TO... OK, I could be wrong but it's my opinion that the blood in that injury is pooling and is subject to infection. Did I Give you "Green Goop"? that may help. Drawing salve may help dry it out and keep infection out. I would also think there may be something in it irritating it. I would lance it. That pooled blood the bird is not "using" it anyway. Flush it out good, goop it and wrap it overnight. JMO

Jim... yup, I wrapped it but the wrap keeps slipping over my round belly! LOL If we weren't so broke this month I would get one of those velcro wrap around things that's suppose to make you look skinny. I bet that would work.

CC... I did have some boards in front of the freezer to stand on.... but they wound up being used for a project
hmm.png
Glad you liked the Goop. I thought that batch was a bit weak. I made the extract version that batch. I usually make the "raw" version. The extract version doesn't take as long to cook down though. Even that is an all day affair. When 2nd son went into the Marines young son made sure he had a BIG jar of "Mom's Green Goop". He told 2nd son it would probably heal a bullet wound better than the medics.
love.gif
Brought a tear to my eye.
love.gif
LOL.... I forgot about the chicken! I love big butt chickens too
cool.png

BBP... sorry about your duck
hugs.gif

BigZ... I like your busted rib remedy!

kristi.... cool glass! Is that reverse painting?

bl4... Hope Taffy doesn't get "gator overload" . Cute that DH got it for her.

I too now have a coughing rooster.
barnie.gif
Have him caged and on antibiotics. The dumped off hen is getting friendlier, she fallows me around allot. I think she likes that I keep the roos off her.

If enough people are interested we could have a Goop party and I could show a few of you how to make it. Like I said though it's an all day thing with most of the time taken in cooking it down. (leaves time for eating, drinking and talking...hehehehe)

Well, guess that's it .... Night All!

The adventures of French toast....could be a weekly blog! Glad you tracked down all your $... Scary!
Ok deli would, love to see your picture...just a cool idea...wish I was artistic. Vicki, it is not a reverse painting I don't believe...right on the front of the glass. The window casing in the picture frame.
My guineasmaremrunning the coop. They now have other hens besides their surrogate mom throwing them the best scraps. Funny little buggers.mhoping to worm train them some more this weekend. They have to gotten one on one time lately...just too busy with outdoor projects.
Got out to weed the garden last night...so many weeds. Looks like all the sweet potatoes were gnawed down. Half my green beans look gnawed and cucs were nibbled.mandmonly three stalks of corn came up out of the seven foot row...bummer. Tomatoes are finally starting to pour in! We will see what we all have this year.
thanks for the tips on apple butter...may try that.mbesides canning pears...anyone make pear preserves or pear butter? Best uses for pears?

Yes, I know. However, I peel the apples and use the the peels (aka pectin) for other projects. Again, fruit BUTTER got it's name because of the way it's made. I am of southern background and we make butters of just about any non acidic fruit. Like I said to Jim, up here I also make wild plum (no pectin). I also add no sugar. That appears to be a northern thing. With the added cider or other juice you don't need it. Just an FYI.

NOW, since I know a bushel more about fruit butters than poultry (been at it longer than some of you have been alive) back to the beginners forums. Have a great day all.

Kristi... If you can tame a guinea in any way short of begging for treats, I'll buy you a dinner. They are flighty wild things. You can get them to come for treats, but they will terrorize all others around them for their treats too. Think of the sea gulls from finding Nemo. Just warn the kiddos not to be disappointed. They are the cutest babies, ugliest adults, and unfriendliest birds. Remember, you wanted them for tick control. (Oh and if your hubby had a problem with pirate being loud, he ain't see NOTHING yet with guineas)
