Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Bigfam, I'll look into feliways. I'm sending my filly to be part of the school's equine science class training project. She is going to hate it! They teach them to lead, tie, groom, walk on tarps, all that fun stuff. She's going to have a bunch of kids hanging on her every day for a month (or 2 if I choose to do 2 sessions.)

suggestions for catching an egg eater?

no I don't have a coop cam, no I will not sit in a chair for hours in the coop
bring each hen one at a time, and tell it that it has been identified as the cullprit and the only way out of it is to feather/finger the real offender.

or

I have read about things that trap hens when they go in nest boxes to lay, then it would be the one in the nestbox with no egg.

or find a used video baby monitor cheep

No,, my last spotted cow..

JJ, that is only circumstantial evidence.. what if you trap just a non layer ? your first method makes sense to me.. just remember, of course, i just finished off another spotted cow..

Hi all--worked in the kids' garden tonight then went to the lake for a dip. Unfortunately the water was tepid at best. I havent ever been in the lake in July when that was the case...I guess we are almost to August.
SClark-Good to know thanks for the info!!!

HeyBigZzzOOoo!!!!! I think I missed something about "Good vibes"?
BL4 said "good vibes owuldnt help her situation" I think Bigz replied that good vibes arent what chickens need for health. At least that was what I got from it....maybe a little mix-up?
Now I have a chocolate orpington chick that appears to have prolapse. Does it ever end? Oh, and did I mention that I went to put on a pair of jeans this morning and they were wet . . . And smelled of cat urine? Put a different pair on, noticed I stunk. They had pee on the bottom portion of the leg. If I ever get caught up on bills I will take her in and have her tested again to see if there's a medical reason. If not, it will be a one way trip.
When it rains it pours eh? Sound like you are about flooded there! We had a cat that was peeing on stuff. I knew which one it was cause she stayed in our bedroom, she was terrified of our other cats and the dogs. (she was my MILs cat--we got both of them when she passed away) This cat has now lived in a cat condo in our back room for 4 years! She used her box just fine when she is in there...I must have had her to the vet 4 times...nothing wrong with her at all--I wanted to put her down and he said absolutely NOT! OTOH--I sure wish I could find out which cat is peeing on my stove. That one would be out in the barn in a flash!
I cannot stand cat pee. I have no tolerance for it. And .i love cats!!! Love love love my Maine Coons. But I growing up my mother always had a cat that would mark. I know all the tricks and products in the book to deal with it. But it still seems like it happens.

My MIL, who is a pharmacist by trade and therefore a smart lady, let her cat spray for years. I say let because she always used soap and water to clean it up. Or may be carpet stain spray. But she never used cat descender. No matter how many times I explained it to her. Why it needed to be used. So the cat was eventually put down. After like 10 years of marking!

Since I cannot tolerate any cat pee but love my cats, Feliway has been a blessing. It really calms the cat with pheromones in the area where they are stressing and peeing. I'm sure you've don't a million things to fix this, but get a couple Feliways and put them in your bedroom after a full cat descenter wash down of all stuff and or clothes.
I am glad it worked for you...it didnt for me!

I must be super tired to miss out on a pussy shaving comment. I'm almost more embarrassed for missing the chance to say it, than actually saying it!!!
You know, I missed it too(but I could not even compete with YOU for pervy humor) in fact I wondered what in the world Dan was talking about!*insert smiley with the point flying over her head*

Ok--then you need to construct some nest traps. When the hen moves around in the nest to lay, she trips the door and is trapped in with the egg. If each trapped hen has an egg then that is not the eater! When I had one I DID sit in the coop---I found out that it was a hen that was not even laying at the time! Good luck...others have used golf balls to teach them--I guess I dont see how that would work? Are chickens really that smart to realize that pecking a golf ball hurts their beak? (so It makes them stop?) I think not.

My garden has been watering for an hour and a half...guess I better head out and turn it off. I am going to have to do the front flower garden in the morning! (which I hate to do!) The veggies are way more important though....

Maybe I will be back...depending on the posts! TerriOheadingforabrandyandcokeandihaveno'nillaBrent

BBP Is that with Mr Meyers? Terra assisted with his class-hes awesome.

TerriO think there was a mix up but the way things have been today its my brain thats all scrambled.

Unkadan, I had someone eating eggs, put golf balls in and think that resolved it (either that or Im not finding any signs of missing/broken eggs)

Hellooooooo to all our newbies! Kristi, I would toss them in the freezer, if nothing else to keep them from getting odorous. Ask if they can keep them raw next time (then you'll really have to freeze them, but perhaps a tad more nutritious.) BigFam, you have WH you don't really want, you say?? Boys or girls? Holderread, correct? cs, here is the comfrey mid spring. This first growth had grown another foot taller, put out flowers and fallen over, and the plant is putting out its 2nd growth now. I only transplanted a 4-5 inch clump about 3 years ago - tenacious stuff.
I agree put the bones into the freezer to keep linger. Thanks for the picture. I brought home some from you and also lambs ear from chickenstock, planted them close and couldn't tell them apart. The pic helped! Is it a full sun plant? I have mine in mostly shade.
I guess the 17.50 jsut covers the test and not any cosultation or advice..fine jsut tell me that and i will pay for an office visit to get my @)(#*@#@ answers!! Sorry and thanks for letting me vent....tired of getting hassled because I actually care about my chickens.. :p
Sorry about the issue of incompetence at the vet.

Lol Done with jury duty. I'll add details tomorrow, I am exhausted.

Hi All

Again,
welcome-byc.gif
to the new people!

Hiding in my room again with the A/C... guess I'll be here for a couple more days yet

I come out of my hole for a little while to do something then run back. Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so humid! Chicken chores get done in 2 parts. I feel so sorry for the birds. One hen squawks a little when she pants, poor thing. I'm sure their shoulders are getting sore holding those wings out so much too. I think I'll see if they would like a little mist spraying tomorrow/today. Even a nice breeze would help!
BigFam.... Got the air on for your girls yet?

Young son brought me a half dozen sunfish and a bass. Really didn't want to clean fish in the heat but got 'em done. I'm sure Brent can tell you, the more you get the quicker you learn to clean 'em. LOL Seems I've been cleaning 'em ever since I could catch 'em.

Well, going out (of my room) for another round of trying to get stuff done.

Night All!

OK.... That was weird... don't know if my internet went down or if it was Firefox.... 2 hours to be able to post this

Hi FT!

All right... I'm up. Stupid new alarm system for child went off. No good reason other than to F up a perfectly good nights sleep!!!

WHERE THE HECK IS ROBIN? She's getting a phone call I think. When she goes MIA for too long I worry one of her critters has passed and she's keeping to herself. I've seen her lurking with no posting, and that's not CC.

And no air for the chickens yet. I've gone hardcore. They aren't hiding in the coop all day. The cornfield seems to give them some relief. I'm not seeing a bunch of wing spread either. But I do see ducks panting because they're too dumb to go hang out in their pools...

Going to try and go back to sleep. Went to bed at 10. Stupid kid alarm went off at 3:30. How many hrs of sleep is that? Frenchie count on your toes (the fake ones please) 5.5 again. F--k. Sleep please come back........
