Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm going to put this out there... With the no water inside the coop, I've got no mess with ducks and chickens. I have the water outside. Yes, there is a mess outside, but ducks are messy. But I'm really digging this eat and drink outside the coop. I love not having the duck muck in the coop, and will love it even more in the winter.

What about at night? Do they have access to water when the coop is closed for the night? Would love to have no water inside the coop!

I am home...I am hot...my head is not shaved(but close to it)

I have a small dog dish in my coop that gets filled in the morning, by night all of that water is gone and my birds have no water in there. Definitely necessary if you have ducks going in the coop too! My scovies get along fine with the chickens--no worries there at all!

I am going to lay down on the couch...I cant believe how tired I am! TO

When I had my family pictures taken, she snapped a few of the birds. What a nice pic a nice camera can take!

Quote: They should sleep at night. If the water is in there they will play in it. I have never kept food or water in the coop. It attracts mice, and all kinds of things I do not want to house, feed or water. It can cause cocci to flair up, molds and mildew too. Poultry have a hard time with those things with out the help of food and moisture exposure. Have you ever smelled wet feed buried in bedding for the winter? Gag city. I usually heaved, helping my grandma cleaning out her coop in spring. My birds do not live in a coop, they sleep in a coop. It is easier to keep clean and dry with no food and water. I do toss BOSS in the bedding so they stir it for me once in a while.
For young chicks I have food and water up off the ground in a containment area. It is an old large cake pan setting on top of an inverted box made with hard wire, trimmed in 1x2's.

And here is a pic of Jack watching over the last batch.

2 Hershey babies are in the back row, one on each end of the lav roo. The other one is one of the blacks in the front. Only 2 pullets out of this batch...................
