It is hard to break an egg..have you tried to hold one in your hand and squeeze? If you can break it, you have soft shells. If it takes just a tap on the counter to break the egg it is too soft.
Add calcium
You might need to change bedding in your nest box to dry grass clippings that is deep and will help to support the eggs a bit more if you have extra heavy birds. I have hens over 10 lbs that do not break eggs. But some breeds step on them and are not very coordinated and break eggs. Sometimes other hens come into the nest and disturb the hen, fights result in broken eggs. Isolation.

If it is mice getting into the eggs, or a snake, cat or what ever, kill them. Mice/chipmunks/gophers will chew a small hole in the egg, and than the egg emptys and the hen crushes it. Get rid of your egg eaters.

Its my opinion that all siamese cats are mentally handicapped. I've owned 2 in my life and they weren't quite right. The one would scale right up the doorway with his claws stuck in the wood. Like one of those guys in those lumberjack contests that shimmy up the tree (or pole).

x2 Finster was part Siamese and that cat was just plain psychotic. He loved to howl in the shower stall or anywhere his voice would be amplified at 3AM, among many other annoying things.

And wouldn't you know it, he had to live to be 20.

Judge, I had 2 broodies that kept having their eggs getting broken. I have a few hens higher up in the pecking order that just had to lay their eggs in that particular box. And one of them was a scratcher/nest rearranger, so in the process of getting her nest "just so", she'd scratch around so much she'd kick an egg out onto the floor. After the 2nd one broke that was a week from hatching, I just put them in the incubator. The broodies kept switching nests anyway & weren't always sitting on the eggs they should have. Then they both gave up at the same time.

If you have an egg eater, they might chase her out & eat her eggs, but there usually isn't much left. To see if she is a determined broody, take a box filled with nesting material & approach her in her nest. Take her eggs and put them in the box, then hold the box in front of her. If she climbs in it, take a few steps and see how she reacts. If she doesn't flip out or jump out, you might be able to move her into your private coop. When you get her there, do the same thing: move her eggs into the desired nest and wait until she follows. She might want to inspect things first. But if it is quiet, she might approve of the move. Chickens aren't always so smart or cooperative, though.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, Stacy. At least he lived a good, long life in a loving home where he was understood and accepted. Not a lot of people these days seem willing to deal with "special needs" animals. Hugs to you and your family.

cs, DH built me a rabbit pen very similar to cuties except it had a wood roof. And yes, it had hardware cloth on the bottom so the rabbits couldn't tunnel out, and it could be moved with the rabbits inside it. DH used those U shaped nails and had a brace running down the middle under the floor for extra support. HTH

Today started as the Day From He!!..... Work was a nightmare. What was supposed to be a 'short' day, turned into a 'long' day...... for the most part due to equipment failure and broken equipment...... I swear I cannot get out of there fast enough..... after work I had a wonderful lunch with one of the Bio Profs from Fox, then scooted home so we could all pile into the van and shoot over to the in-laws and meet up with the rest of the extended family for dinner and laughter.... of course on the way we were slightly sidetracked by a loose heifer in the road. I did not want somebody to hit her so we stopped the car and a few kids piled out to help herd her back.... a nice break in the day.....

So now we are back home and I have a load of jeans in the wash for our trip...... I am REALLY looking forward to getting away.....

I was sorry to hear about the kitty. Just lost two 15 yr old cats here myself. It sucks; but I also have two more 15 yr old cats to keep me company. One is sitting at my feet and the other is sitting on my shoulder right now.

Starting to pass out here..... I forget that I have been going since 4:30.... AM.....

Little Lady and her 11 new chicks, all hatched. Have 2 pips in incubator but one is on wrong end of egg. My first time with this, will it hatch on its own?

I know alot of people don't like Siamese but I am partial to them as had 2 when I was little. They were purebred and insane. Seymour was one of 10 years of calico barn cats so it was mainly out of him besides some color. He was a good kitty or I would not of been able to tolerate him for over 15 years.
