Spent a really great day in Door County yesterday with family. Cherry pie, Al Johnson's, mini golf, wine tasting, etc. It was nice to get away from the store on a Saturday!

I'm so glad we got some rain on the garden! YAY!!

rant of the day....went to county fair yestreday and was checking out the chicken barn. and watched a teen girl and her mom grabbing eggs and popping them in and out of other cages. asked what they were doing. as they walked off they laughed and said...playing the egg game..switching white and brown eggs !! grrrrr not spending germs or anythinb! noticed quite a few without water pecking at empty dishes, sneezing, puffy faces etc!

positive not...the popular breed was blrw and all but grand champion werent even close to the blrw i got from delisha!

good morning,, today is supposed to be hatch day for a few Delaware chicks..

Sandi, the Sebs are 1 male and 2 females ..

It took all night for me to send a photo on regular email.. I have to find a better way..

with the broken egg problem,, If you are finding broken eggs, it most likely is not an egg eater doing it.. they usually leave no scraps.. I am voting for chickens hopping into the nest to lay their eggs and a skirmish begins..

our cluck has taken to hopping into a nest at night and leaving the babies on the floor.. so at lock up we throw her onto the floor and then she gathers the chicks and all is well for the night..

I cannot get Ollie to start.. looks like the fuel is not coming through as fast as it should.. I will be taking the fuel line apart .. but first I am going to put the lawn mower back together..

where is DrH ?? does he even lurk ? has anybody talked to him on the phone ? I hope he is not sick or something ..

I forgot my jacket at the restaurant last night after cards.. I think I will go retrieve it and have a cuppa before I start my day.. Annie has been having me help her clean up junk around the place.. I must admit, it sure looks a lot better.. not quite so "redneck" looking..

I could walk you threw how to upload pictures in PM if you want to give it a try. I used to have problems too until I changed my picture format before uploading. I know nothing about computers so we would speak the same language.

Thought I'd see if Lady would take on the chicks that hatched earlier this past week and she looks at them as if their hers. This is her first hatch although she's been broody since spring but had problems with my daughters AI reds knocking her off her nest and eating eggs. Have since gotten rid of them and moved her to her own little space so sit out her hatch. Worked out great, she now is mother to 23 little cuties. She is however in the hatching room in the brooder in the house until it warms back up outside and I get a place for her to raise her babies.

Tipsy my other Lav. Roo from Yvette has now started to cockadoodle and for the first time breeding the SS. That didn't take long, I had planned on it possibly being 9 months for this to happen. Its amazing how a dominant roo can force another into pretending their a hen to avoid a fight.

Cs, busy day yesterday.
The pens have an open bottom. I move them around every day. That way, they get fresh grass, and not enough time to dig big holes. I make sure they always have shade. We have tons of trees here. And if it rains, scott has plywood that we put over the top. And the corner box has no bottom or front. It is for shade/shelter. And I keep her food dish in there.
These pens are temporary. They are in better/off the ground cafes in the winter. I also move them into the barn when it is cold. I give my bunnies hutches.I will provide hutches in the winter. I will send a pic for you tomorrow. Some people dont like them. Say it gets too much moisture in there and causes pneumonia. I keep mine dry and fresh. Havent had isssues.
Ok! I think that is everything. But keep asking questions. I dont mind and I'm pretty sure cc has good advice to offer too!

Vicki, how are the shipped chicks doing? The one with the bad legs?

CC, heading South this afternoon! I cannot wait to hit the road and escape for a few days....... hang out with adults, drink and get silly..... sounds like the Chickenbash!

I need to find SOMEBODY around here who has eggs, and I mean not a long drive but just outside of town..... if any of you southeners have extras I will gladly stop in and buy a few doz. I love that TO's eggs traveled across the country with us on our trip!

Poor DH, he is going to get a little culture while we are down in IL. We are going to see a concert at Ravinia and take along the required wine and cheese picnic. Good thing he is a good sport about all of this and is smart enough to indulge his wife!

So the plan for today is get the kids packed up and over to the grandparent's place, get back home and pack for myself, get DH to pack his stuff, get the car loaded up, and then hit the road....... my only request is that it warms up!

Oh it was funny Cuties! Kids are always going to see what they can get away with. They were on the trampoline and some minor issues came up. Some accidental some on purpose. Well big sister (sorry forgot her name) was doing some thing repetitively to little brother (forgot his too). She had an evil little smirk on her face because he was getting mad. I told her to stop doing that. So little brother takes over doing stuff to her to try to get her in trouble. It told him to stop. It went into them both going after each other, which earned them " time out you two. Off the tramp" they just looked at me to see if I meant it. I glared at them just a little bit and said "I told you both to stop or there would be a consequence. Now you will both sit on the picnic table for time out. And if you think I can't make you do it, I have 5 boys, and I guarantee you I can" so they slinked off the tramp. Your daughter sulked a bit and your little man was kinda lippy while on the table (I was trying so hard not to laugh!). But then the two kids Terri was babysitting didn't want to jump without them, so they came down to the table for a voluntary time out. The time out lost its punishment power. So everyone was free to go back to playing, and that's the end of the tale.

But that boy of yours... Oh he's funny. Kinda puffs up his chest a bit to look bigger when he's challenging you. Oh my goodness, he's a hoot!!! The daughter, very responsible in repeating where we were or were NOT supposed to go. (trying to boss me around LOL). It's fun being the kid wrangler!

of the grand champion? no but would love to share pics of xanadu lol..only thing this one had on xanadu was consistency of coloring. xan still has some wing feathers with more solis red bands but shes still young

Good morning---UUHHGGG...just got through the 140 posts that I was behind...now my eyes are blurry...cant say I remember much but...I hope you have a good trip BL4 and DH! You are welcome to swing west a bit and pick up some more of my eggs on your way back...

WHat kind of he is Little Lady? SHe looks very much like my wild ones in the loft...complete with the large batches of chicks! Mine are a compilation of Phoenix, OE game and polish crosses (I think) It has been so long since there have been pure bred birds up there!

I wore winter jammies last night WITH SOCKS! After the wedding I couldnt get warm so I added the socks. I was up reading until 3 or so...only had a glass of wine and water the whole night...I drove home and listened to the rest of the fam philosophize about aliens and outer space all the way home! I was kind of comical to say the least. We all had a great time though and my BF's daughter looked gorgeous. I love watching young(drunken) people dance!

Hey bigfam...just to tell ya that bars on a self-blue (lavender) bird is a DQ in the show ring! I was talking to the judge after he DQed my lavender ameraucana bantam last year and he said, "I dont know how to explain how/why it happens; that's why I dont breed self-blues!" I gave him to Carol...

OK--I have fed but not watered and am out of time here...Jim-Remember that DrH said he didnt have time to answer and keep up so would post only occasionally? At least that is how I remember it...hey, I will trade you a flock of 34 pure Toulouse geese for your trio of Sebbies....
