au contraire, canned chicken is a great base for an almost "instant" meal. Whole bird cooked with some veggies added for a good stock, pick the meat off the bones and pressure can with that stock,,,nummy over rice, noodles, base for dumplings, and soup!

And on the topic of gardens, here's my family's.
Weston, with the peas
Cucs
Beans, Kholarabi, beets
Cilantro, rutabaggies, and dill, with peppers on the side
And tomatoes, none all the way ripe, pretty much like everyone else's. But they are coming... We also have broccoli, zucchini, and cauliflower
Does anyone have any forsythia they need to thin out?? I have a hankering for them - mom always had them when we were growing up. I need to dig out a bit of holly if anyone wants to swap. PM me! Thanks!!
I was looking at a gardening book ""Crocket's Victory Garden" and they said August would be good for a replanting of peas and radishes, but with the weather this wierd I don't know. Because if planted now harvest would be first week of October, they may take a light freeze but...I am thinking for the cost of a packet of seeds, what the hey...
It just might happen that it could warm up and have a nice warm fall.. worth the gamble, I am thinking, for me.. because I did not get any spring planting done this year.. I never plant radishes, but I would like one meal of peas in the pod.. and maybe some lettuce ?
I agree, what the hey !!
Hi Colton!
I have two rescued older hens - a black star and a production Aussie (originally told she was a black star and was in such horrible shape I couldn't tell she wasn't), a mostly white "mutt" that my Aussie hatched out from eggs I got from my neighbor, and three cinnamon queens that are just starting to lay. My two new chicks are high quality Aussie s from Terri.
I'm heading to Mason City to the NIPA show in September. Kind of have to head to Iowa to have any other Iowa Blue people to hang out with/show with, trying to get a nice display there with the club. Will hit the EIPA show in Iowa City in November, as well.
The NIPA show is the weekend before the Wisconsin show.
Thinking of entering the WI one, but don't think there will be any other IBs there so would be a display, I guess.
Well surgery went well and im in my room. I think I shouldn't of did this bit too late now. I can't even eat a bite of ice cream or drink water the pain is so intense. Asked the nurse if they can give me lidocain or something topical to ease the pain.
Ooo, good idea on the canned chicken, maybe that's a good place for some of these smallish culls to go. Bet they'd make nice canned chicken/veggie/stock.
I need to find me a good cheat sheet gardening for dummies or something to give me the short list of timing for various garden fare. I used to plant/harvest my mom's huge garden growing up, but I wasn't exactly paying attention as a kid. She used to can a lot. I want to start next year, get the boys out there to help, start to fill my pantry with jars.
Thanks everyone, im pretty much a big cry baby. My anxiety goes into hyper drive when im not at home. The agoraphobia isn't fun to live with by any means. Im over half way for stay time so coming down the slope and if I play my cards right ill sleep most of that time.
Sold my black and white frizzle hens Sunday and found a partridge Cochin bantam frizzle chick. Sold that to the same lady, its hard to tell as their feathers are just coming in. Well I get home yo resort the chicks back to the correct mothers and find yet another partridge Cochin bantam chick. The blrw and crosses are sure feathering nicely and I see some with dark mahogany. Can't wait til the get all their feathers.
