Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm pretty winded today if you can't tell, stress related I'm sure. Got a call from one of my cousins about midnight, another cousin from Tomah(where I grew up) had gotten into a fight with his wife and decided to head to the bar to let off some steam. He hung himself! He was only in his mid 30s and had 3 small children. I hadn't seen him since 07' when I was down to Tomah to see my grandfather in the VA, seems the older we get the less we would see each other. But ****, I'm just floored by this. My family has a HIGH suicide death toll. My aunt, mother to the cousin who called lived with me and committed suicide last Aug 5th in my home, son 14 found her. Another aunt and uncle committed suicide. My daughter 19 has anxiety now I'm seeing and is going thru a really ruff time since moving out last week having panic attacks daily. I told her she could move back home and no one would think any less of her. Anyhow, bad tract record my family has going on here.
So sorry to hear all this the best thing is to encourage a counselor and a doctor. At your daughters age she should be seeing a doctor once year for a physical anyway... No one needs to live with panic attacks and depression these days there is a lot of help out there and you and yours need to reach out find it... The answers are not overnight but may take months, better to do it now while we have lots of daylight. Seems it gets worse as we live here and winters mean darker days. Best wishes, to you and yours, but run to your family doctor, don't walk.

Judge...Remember the curved tail feather in back means male on ducks.

Alright... I don't know what this is all about but it sure is cute. My Halden this morning

Some good news here. ET said he just saw the 4 mix breed chicks.....Now what I'd like to know is.... where have they been ? Geez, they reach the teenage stage and just like humans.... Uncontrolable hey ?

Hello all, beautiful day out there today. I'm not looking forward to next week's heat and humidity, but my tomatoes and peppers sure need it. I've noticed the garden is also getting pretty dry. My 250 gallon rain catcher is full and hooked up to the soaker hoses, may just need to soak the beds down before the heat.

RBerry~ I'll give the meal worms a try since my worm farm is now producing like crazy.

You have a worm farm, right? What kind of worms? How big is it? Dad said I gotta start one so just gathering info..

Colton: I do have a meal worm farm that we started in February. It really didn't take off until this spring because we have it in our solarium which was too cool so the worms were in a dormant state. We started with a carton of about 500 worms from the local store we buy our wild bird seed at. Some of those original worms were given to our girls as a treat so I would say our initial batch was about 400. We have a set up like the one I found on this youtube video
I was able to save $$ on the electric mill used to grind up feed by shopping the local thrift shops, you could also check on CraigsList. We are getting so many worms that I am planning of dehydrating them for winter use based on a method I've found on this site http://www.ehow.com/how_5632712_dry-meal-worms.html I hope this helps good luck

and please keep me posted on the progress.

Well took me a while to get caught up on the posts, now I really need to do some weeding and finish getting ready for the addition of my eight new 3 month old Delaware pullets. We pick them up tomorrow night . . . I'm both anxious and excited

HI--caught up and ready to respond! I hope it is not too late for some birdies!
I sold 4 BO and 2 Buckeyes at the swap andbonly managed to buy one. A Lavender Orphington roos born Jan.4th, (day before my bday) He's out of lines from Dave of Roberts which I've previously heard raises some nice orpingtons. Now I can only hope I have 3 lav pullets I hatched.

I spent the afternoon helping the friend build a new pen for her pigs and got those moved. 3 went fine, but the one sow, now over 300 lbs didn't take being let out if the small pen so well and took nearly 2 hours to coax her out. But not before she flipped me over in 2 feet of liquid pig poo 3 times. Husband made comments of not sleeping near me so I slept in the addition with all my stench. 2 showers, tons of soap and scrubbing and I still smell as bad as when I started. At least their moved and into a nice size area where they can have room to move and not lay in their manure. I still feel horrible, but hope this was an eye opener to her situation. I will be taking rabbits to sell to another swap this Saturday and she has agreed to let me take a bunch to sell. Me and son 14 also sorted bunnies to keep the boys away from girls. Here I thought there was 50, well its over 70. Its a start and I will be trying to stay close to keep an eye so things don't get worse. I still feel bad as she doesn't know it was me, seems deceptive but I feel I had no other choose. She also is going to let me sort her chickens and decide which ones to sell but I explained to her the importance to downsize so she can enjoy them more and not be so overwhelmed. I know all this may backfire and she could just keep on but it seems she trusts my opinions and does sincerely appreciate the help I've been giving her. Only time will tell.
Oh yes...that pig poo is something else isnt it? When we loaded ours for the fair my GF came and then she said she had to throw her sandals out! Gee, mine were out in the pasture! I can only imagine if they were in such a little pen! Good on you for continuing to help even though you know what is happening!

That roo is nice looking!
Did you see the video? Did it look like it would of been related to a heat stroke? Or maybe something she knew about before? I've never dealt with this type of issue. I paid good money for the bird for one, besides the poor thing suffering. I put her on vitamins/electrolytes as soon as I brought her home last Sunday and she just kept getting increasingly worse.
So I am a bit confused...your other birds you purchased were somewhere else and this bird was in a hot car? How in the world? Were there two different sellers? How does someone "forget" anything in a car? Anyhow, I guess it could be brain damage...and then she should give you your $$$ back if the bird showed no symptoms before being left there in the car. How did the bird look when you first bought it? I kinda looks like a bird with rye neck...but that would be a chick and couldnt live that long...
good morning, anybody need guineas ? one of the clutches that Annie found is hatching.. 3 days early from my forecasted hatch date.. I sort of expected that.. I have about 2 dozen new babies.. NOW . I have to do si do the birds in the coop brooders to make room for the newbies,

Looks like I will have many adult guineas for sale next spring..
I might need some...depending on how kind the owls are this winter....
Marlene is going to laugh at me over this .. she can't sell babies at this time of the year either,, she has about 20 of them.. being the good guinea lady she is,, she has never butchered one..
BUt they are SO DELICIOUS!
I think I will be enclosing the greenhouse and it will become my winter quarters for the guineas..

Plus, I have about 40 more eggs in the other bator,, and a guinea is sitting on about 20 eggs outside..

another one just hatched,, I can watch them from my chair while I type..

My two transplanted grape vines seem to be thriving.. I mulched them with chopped and re-chopped grass clippings.. that should make a nice mat to hold the moisture in and keep the weeds down for awhile..

I have a patch of unwanted Jerusilum (sp) artichokes that I should take a picture of.. I have never seen any this tall before.. they are like small trees.. talk about an invasive species !!
WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME THIS???? I love them! We dont have them here....I did at my old house!
I suppose I should get off of here and go see what the day will bring..

So Jim...I hope you can see the blue color...it is red and green you have trouble with right?
On a lighter note take a look at this portable fencing idea.... Think the hubby maybe busy next weekend

Think I am bad for copying the plans but....
THANKS! I think I know what I am doing with my junk lumber now! WHat a great design and I dont fault you at all for copying it!
He's old, and infirm Deli. He gets inflamed easily. He's got meds for it. He also forgets names and who types what. Side effect of his inflamed meds...

I'm getting really really sick of my darling angels being around all the time. I am REALLY thinking the inflamed old man could use some visitors for a few days. It would totally be worth the drive, and if Jim could be so patient with grandma, he could handle a few of my angels, right?
I totally agree...you could send them to Jim (or ME!) I could use the labor and also have two kids moving out...got the beds! Heck, you could send half to Jim and half to me...you wouldnt know your kids by the time they came home! LOL!
:-D lol I bet! You could get the 7 yr old to believe your "special medicine" only comes from a spotted cow. And because you're in your twilight years you're really only supposed to sit in a lawn chair and take your medicine all day while supervising child labor. I think it would be hilarious!!!
HMMM--what an idea!

Yes...follow this advice! Both of my daughters (and probably my son too) suffer from the lack of daylight during the winter. They get on anti-depressants to try to fight it. Both want to move to a more Southern area so it is better. There is much help for folks that suffer so...please pass the info along!

I must milti-quote too many! I wanted to say that that is not a bantam Buckeye hen sitting on those eggs (SClark?) cant remember who posted it now...that looks like a Welsummer hen to me...plumage and comb is incorrect for a Buck.

Vicki I hope Noodle is feeling better. I have not had that here in that batch at all! I did have the rough breathing in the laying flock last year and I treated it with Tylan50. As far as purchasing it-- I ordered mail-order and it was about $50. It does work great though for all that respiratory crap!

OK--I need to head out to the garden now!
Later! TerriO
