Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So the big winner at the Fair for poultry was a white runner duck, followed by a BIG black duck that I am guessing is an East Indie (?), then I think a white Call, and then the big chicken winner was a white Silkie. That black duck was the BIGGEST drake I have ever seen, it was the size of a small goose without the long neck!

We watched the horse pull for a while too, such beautiful animals! I was waiting for a finger to get pinched the way those horses would take off when they would hear the clip hit the weight sled. The top pull was 7500#.

I think we should all just show up at BigFams with tents and booze and have a night.

What fair did you go to ? Oconto County Fair has the horse pulls tomorrow. (Sat)... I wanted to go but it is pretty far to drive just for that... when I can spend the day with my horses !!! But now I want to go again.....

That reminds me of the horse pulls a few years ago at Klondike Days in Eagle River. When the horses heard the clang of the clip (or whatever it's called) they took off like a Bat out of H3ll!!!! Problem being, the Ring broke and the horses were prepared to be pulling tons of weight..... now all they had to pull was the team driver !!!!! The poor guy...he was an older gentleman (reminded me of my dad, he had a plaid shirt on, wire rimmed glasses and a silver watch).... anyway the horses took off and the driver fell to the ground... the horses pulled him pretty far, the guy was spinning on the ground, lost his glasses and all I remember was seeing his silver watch on his wrist while he hung on to his team.... A good driver (or whatever they are called in this sport) will never leave his team. He was alright but scared the B G B's out of the crowd. Especially if they would have plowed into the crowd !!!
I learned while watching the horse pulls that when the horses respond to the clang right away most likely means they were trained with a hot wire or hot rod or whatever they use to shock them into pulling so quickly. The horses that wait for the handler or driver to ask them to start pulling and Don't respond so intensely to the clang most likely weren't trained with the above cruel method.

Oh and BL4, I'm not hairless !!!! LOL She did leave some to my surprise.... She just trimmed off the sides !!!! Quit cute but am not sending pictures !!!

Jim, had I of known you were giving away fencing and guineas I would have stopped on our way home from Wausau today.
ET had to get a chest Xray but because he never gave me the appointment reminder we got there to late for the xray. He did see the pulm doc and had a short breathing study done. All is well. Then he turned in his card from his CPAP machine and nothing was recorded on it !! His sleep study hasn't been read yet because they are short on help but after ET told the doctor he had 30 episodes (before they put on the CPAP) the doctor just said "You're Toast " meaning he knew he didn't pass that test. His pulm doctor is a riot !!! He is so funny !! So now we wait some more before he can get a new machine.
Then we went from Aspirus over to St Claires/Marshfield clinic. I had some blood drawn, another lung CT scan and another breathing function test.
I wanted to go to Olive Garden after but ET had talked me into going to St Claires cafeteria for some soup and salad before my appointments. What a mistake... not because of the food but price. I guess I wasn't paying attention that piling salad in an almost weightless bowl still adds up as $.35lb. Two bolws of soup, two salads and one soda.... $18.89 !!!! Out right Robbery !!! So needless to say I was not hungry enough to go to Olive Garden for Supper so I settled for a huge cone from Briqs Ice Cream Shop for desert !!!
Sorry, not replying to individual posts, I did all of the driving (which I like to do, so does ET, he sleeps) so I am tired tonight.

I thought the East Indie was smaller than the Cayuga? I only say this as someone said ours weren't Cayugas and were the East Indie because they were small when we got them but ours were just babies about a month old. Now their bigger than a Mallard as a hen comes daily and chills with our 2. This may not be true though, I'm not duck expert.

I was completely guessing at the breed, I was thinking the Cayuga was the smaller of the two completely black duck breeds(that I am aware of). So it was a Cayuga. No Amy, no bib it was totally black.

I would have taken pics but BYC will not let me upload pics from my phone.

Better get ready for work.....

Morning, another crispy one up here.
At least we made it thru a blue moon with no frost. Doesn't happen often up here that we make it thru an August full moon without at least one frost.

JJ sorry for your roo. Yuck, poor roo.

JIM how's Dora doing? Is she moving any better? I'm still in love with Puppy, he's beautiful and such a character.

Babylady. You sure live one busy full life!

Ok, time for another cuppa. Besides, I have a kitty on my lap that thinks it is so much fun to chase my fingers on the touch screen of my Kindle and I'm getting tired of correcting her typos!

Have a great, weekend all!

I can understand the hairless part... I fell during February's ice had a CT scan they said concussion rest a few days and all was well till 6 weeks later when i was getting lost in parking lots, terrible headache... thought it was sinuses etc... Next thing you know brain surgery for a clot... Silly me said just shave the one side... I now know I was confused, what did i think Donald Trump hairstyle would look good on me....Hair grows thankfully for us women I am sporting about 2 inches now... Stuff like that makes every day a blessing!

For something different;
Bigfams schedule for Sat
-Wake up 7 am (try to go back to sleep)
-Get out of bed at 8 am

Realize there is only one hr to wake up oldest, have him eat, shower, and pack with expected drop off between 9-9:30 for Geek Con.

In that same hr need to wake up youngest and get food in him, get him changed and dressed. (Yep my 4 yr old Autistic son is still in diapers).

Oh and get into town and get to the bank to get $ for oldest son.

-9:00 to 12:00 Halden Therapy
-9 to 9:30 was Geek Con drop off
-12:30 hair cuts in town for 4 boys
-1:30 try to get a nap in before work
-2:30 get dinner packed for work
-2:45 leave for work
-3:30 to 12:00 am work
-12:10 finally leave work and arrive home about 12:55 am
-1:00 hopefully collapse into bed.

Shoot. I didn't schedule when to do morning chores, or evening chores before heading into work! And I didn't pay any attention to the other 3 boys in the above scenario. But don't worry folks, they will frequently scream and fight and let me know what's going on through tattling. Hopefully there will be no big dramas in today because its pretty packed.

CRAP! I now have 42 min to get the first hr stuff done!!!!!

Gotta go. Have a great Saturday

good morning,, nice and cool out..

Today is the steam show over at EDGAR, wisc.. It is very interesting,, they saw logs, thresh grain, crush rocks, have all sizes of steam engines running,, some as big as a train engine to as small as 7 inches tall.. and a huge flea market.. food stands and a beer stand inside out of the weather.. live old time music to dance to.. a pancake breakfast .. much much more.. you won't be bored,, and kids just love it.. it will be going today and tomorrow .. there is a gate charge , I think it is $5 per day.. you can catch a wagon ride from your car to the gate,, then inside there are wagon rides around the grounds,, no charge for the wagon rides.. Oh , there are plowing demos.. and a tractor display and sometime during the day a tractor parade..

Annie is leaving to go to her 24 hour shift.. 9 AM today until 9 AM tomorrow morning..she does this twice a month..

I guess the leak is fixed.. but now she says the faucet on the pressure tank is dripping.. So in the end, I gained NOTHING .. S hit !!!!

I washed all of the waterers and feed barrels .. Let them dry in the sun yesterday.. today I will fill them all.. it was smelling moldy .. I had some wet feed in one bin.. I dumped it for the chickens to pick at.. they loved it, but the geese took one bite and shook their heads.. except for one buff goose,, she ate quite a bit of it..

BTW Sandi,, those Lavender geese you have,, are called Buff.. I think I have a picture of mine.
If I can find it, I will post it later..
