Heather just a couple of suggestions to help with that schedule

the boys could and should be helping if not doing those chores, then for entertainment they could also cut each others hair! This would not only save you a couple of hours but also $$ at the barber,,,

about that horse pulling.. I did not know about the shocking thing to train them,,

but did you know that during the pull, it is voice commands only,,, the driver is not allowed to even slap the reigns ?? NO hitting of any sort is allowed,, disqualification is the penalty.. but if they are allowed to train with a shocker, that should also disqualify them.. IMHO..

I can't have a shock collar. Not because I wouldn't push the button, more than likely I wouldn't let go.

I don't know how big of a shock or what kind. All I know is what I was told. If you know anything about horses you know that they don't forget a thing !!! That being said, I would think (not assuming lol) once they've been shocked a few to many times for their liking they may not have to shock all the time....????
Horses of course are a bit different then dogs.... plus whips and crops are to be used as an aid not a form of punishment like many think they are. Just like with anything... here are the good and the bad trainers.. Many think the Amish are rough in their training tactics but same thing, some are and some aren't.

Then I suppose it comes down to some just wanting to win !!! Greed will make you do some pretty cruel things to animals.... thinking about the poor Tennesee Walker horses who are still trained using the soring practices...... One reason I don't like to buy Pepsi Products as they are a sponsor to the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. But I do like Pepsi Products !!

And yes they still do sore them. For those of you not familiar with soring.....they put heavy chains on their pasterns (ankles) which rub on the sores on them causing them to lift their feet resulting in the high steps they are known for. That and making them were very heavy elevated horse shoes... All part of their training to make them Win !!! (It gets more detailed then what I recall so don't quote me on how they do it, just spreading the word for those poor innocent animals)

I'm also not saying that the shocking is the most severe way of training a pulling draft horse, just sharing some information. (Although I do believe there are better ways....??) I do also have to admit my Amish broke driving Mare really knows her stuff.....don't know how she was trained though !

I think I am going to spend the day at home enjoying my horses today..... Hello Tomski.... are you out there ?? Happy Birthday !!!

If it is OK to use one on dogs/horses etc then why not kids too????

I have heard of using a crop/whip just to make noise to startle the horse, or give it a 'reminder' touch (crop only), but one should never use either for punishment.

I will look int the training of pulling horses.

The people last night were not even using their voices, just a Shhhhhhh noise.


I forgot to tell all of you horsey people that there is a percheron in the horse stable. The little girl who brought him in does dressage riding! Big beautiful black gelding...... she is thinking about training him for jumping next year. This guy is 18.1 hh!!! His feet are the size of dinner plates.

I would love to see her ride this big fella out in the ring.
