Hens and Roos
Songster
Evening, just stopping in for a few minutes. Been extremely busy around here this summer, doesn't leave much time for reading and keeping up. Kids did great at Dane Co fair- DS(8) is now graduated out of cloverbuds and now can pick projects out of the complete list like DD and DS (11). In fact he has already started picking projects.
Our garden has been doing great, even without much rain- no time to water it either! We have picked lots of zucchini and have shredded and frozen much of it- the chickens sure love the scraps! Still have more coming, along with other types of squash and pumpkins. Yellow and green beans are coming great- picked 20 gals so far. Made pickled onions and 1 batch of pickled beets so far- still have another row of beets to do. Tomato plants are loaded and have started to turn red so we will have some to pick probably mid-week.
Have a unit to finish cleaning and have ready for Sept 1st- this one was left in very dirty condition- so have to scrub and repaint everything-after that 1 unit mid-Sept and 1 at the end of Sept left to get ready once renters are moved out.
All 3 kids have started soccer practice and DD will play volleyball once school starts.
Took Friday off and went to Mt. Olympus for the day with the kids, as DH and I were celebrating our 16th Anniversary and had a great time hanging out with the kids and no interruptions!
Below are some pictures of what DS(8) is going to be doing for his 4-H projects:
this is Jack Frost- his French Angora, he is extremely friendly and DD is planning to use the fiber he sheds for spinning.
this is his mealworm, Terry O provided him the worms to get it started, we just moved them to a bigger container and the container stays in our laundry room.
this is his younger pair of MG's- he named them Rick and Chirp
this is his other pair of MG's- Roger and Pip
these are his other babies, DD traded a friend of ours some of her layer hens for this group, they are 3 weeks old, 4 white, 2 black and 3 blue- not sure how many boys or girls yet!
Off to have some zucchini bread and ice-cream with the kids.
Have a good one!
