Nice name suggestion... but we went with Mason Richard (great grandpa on daddy's side for middle name.) He's nursing great, sleeping lots, and my mom is here taking care of things while I recuperate. I appreciate all the wishes, not much computer time though! Will try to catch up later.

Had a hawk fly over last night about 14 feet from where I was working on the second coop. The Iowa Blues all sounded the alarm. Knock wood haven't lost any yet, but it's a continuous risk around here. That hawk was big, too. I could see it happily snacking on full grown chicken.

I haven't seen many hawks here but I did find a hawk feather by my apple trees a few days ago. There are three bald eagles and two golden eagles who patrol and dominate the skies here and (so far) they have not been a problem. I understand that the eagles would rather scoop up a dead fish floating in the water than do all the work of fishing so I hope they see my flock as too much work. The blues are in no danger in the tractor and the others have lots of tree and bush cover.

I think the turkey lost most of her babies.

I haven't been able to go out and look today but my son said he only saw a couple. Grant you the garden is pretty weedy, but really?

Morning all! I was a day early for my interview...it is today! LOL. At may age ya think I could read a calendar?

It's OK, today I have more time.
DD27 is coming for dinner and she says she will grill...I think I will get a chicken out of the freezer.
NIce and breezy outside right now...I guess I will turn on the little AC unit before I head out at 1 though. I will be glad when the heat breeaks...then I can put hay in the barn!

Not much going on here with the birds...just trying to keep them coolish. I did have to kill a little turkey yesterday...so sad when it's a little one. It was the last one to hatch from the batch I had at the bash. I think it was in the bator while I was there in fact. I dont remember if I helped it out--dont think so...anyhow, it was growing slowly and I had to take it out of the turkey group when I let them out. It stayed in the pen with the chickens I just moved from the brooder. Then I had to put it back in the brooder because it was cold. Anyhow, back and forth it went and yesterday it was stumbling around in the outside pen...I think it probably got blackhead from the chickens because of its age.

I hope everyone's birds are OK in this heat...the only ones here that arent panting are the muskovies! They really like "running through the sprinkler" though.

So funny to watch!

Hmmm, I'm in the "middle age" group, but not sure is I get the 15% yet. Gonna check that out for sure.

We leave for our northern fishing trip on Saturday . . . Unkadan what does your next week look like, are you still up for a drink at Bents or any other establishment up there? We go into Boulder Jct every other day for our mocha fix. Yeah we need our mocha fix - I think we are the only fisher people out on the lake with fishing pole in one hand and espresso drink in the other . . .

If Boulder would be more convenient for you that works too. FrenchT and Vickiw, are you two close enough to meet up too? That would be great fun!!!
