Glad you are trying to take care of yourself..if you are a few short for your order i have chicks all the time..possibly a dozen or so...let me know. Some might be a few weeks old when you are ready. I think I have at least a dozen due in the next week and a dozen hatched last week. I also have a broody on a bunch of eggs too.Well got most of the posts read that I missed while being gone but can't remember alot. Congrats on the new baby Amy! Sry about your chicken loss Judy. And others with chicken problems.
Been just trying to get by here, feeling a little better still not able to eat very well but at least the protein drinks are helping although very gross tasting.
Also homeschooling my boys this year which isn't bad and I'm learning alot of neat stuff I can't seem to remember from when I went to highschool.
Chickens are at least seeming stable. Have a few limping for what ever reason, have them in my brooder pen to hopefully heal. 2 of the Broodies left their chicks early but they seem to be doing fine on their own free ranging(born end of july early aug)
My incubating for the man who wanted 60 chicks isn't going so well though. Started with 120 eggs, had to refill 2 of the incubators twice with over half and now even more most with red ring of death. Although the Brinsea has it's original 24 stopped turner lastnight and have pips and hear lots of chirping. The 15 from the Hova-bator I can hardly see in as their BCM I can only see one egg wiggle. I will never buy anything but a Brinsea incubator after all the troubles Ive had with the foam ones.Should of just used my home made one to begin with but with so many staggered I needed something to hatch in. I don't even have 60 eggs left with last refill to hatch next Wed. so I'm not even sure he'll take the ones I will have if theirs not 60. I don't want chicks to raise at this late in the year as they'll have to stay in the house as I don't have outside housing for them when it gets too cold unless I can get help to build my plans of a log chicken coop 10x12 to house all my chickens for the winter as I plan on reducing even more within the next month. What a headache I didn't need, should of never agreed to do this at this time of year! Did a head count and I'm currently at 84 before these hatches. I nearly downsized half already. I've decided to sell all my Lav. Orps, BOs, Black Orp, BCM and a few others possibly my bantams and just keep my BLRW, GLW, SLW and SS and stick with those breeds only. I've had many calls, but am requiring them to take the Lav Orp Roos in sets with 3 hens and noone will take them under this stipulation. Args!
Hope everyone is doing well, I'll try to get on when I can, but I always try and make time to at least read whats going on.
All baby's..
No adults thank goodness..
I have a family of goshawks. She is teaching to hunt. I put the trap up and caught one of the young ones and let it go hoping they would go away, but in an hour it went back into the trap. It took three times in the trap today before it would leave and not come back. The last time I left it in the trap for an hour before release. Very persistent family. They came back with moved furniture in the yard, streamers in the trees and a disco ball swinging..Joe wants to put a mirrors up on the coop roofs. My yard is officially trailor trash alley. All I need is to turn on my X Mass lights
That is the whole idea Mel !!!!!Irish, shush about that frost, they are making it up..... I am too tired to run back outside to cover plants. Home, showered, and laundry going with all the chaff covered clothes. What nice weather to unload hay in! Beats unloading in 80-90 degree weather!
Cuties, I hope your DD made it home ok.... poor kid!
