Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My chocolate orp was put down today. I have a coworker that doesn't mind snapping their necks for me when the deed needs to be done. She was getting really bad. I expected her to he dead when I got home from work today. But she wasn't, so I loaded her up and brought her back to work.

Cuties, I'm on the west side of the state, near the MN border. Probably too far from you.
Oh - so sorry!!

mine because the owner never kept them in their yard.

Then the owners had a Packer party & invited their friends and all of their hounds too. Last flippin straw........... I called the sherriff, who, upon pulling up to my house & getting out of his car, was swarmed by 6 hounds. I thought he was going to wet himself. I almost did from laughter. Luckily, the dogs were all friendly, but he jumped right back into his car & went next door. Never had an issue since. I hope you are as fortunate.

OMG---I am still laughing about that one! I woulda peed myself too! Nothing like THAT kid of proof! Kinda reminds me about when my dot "bit" a friends child that was visiting. Said dog greeted the sheriff at the door and he asked, "where is the dog that bit?" I told him that's my only dog, as she was sitting in front of him wagging her tail off waiting to be petted!

One thing you can do is what your instincts tell you to do and that is get electric fence. They make special hot fences for chickens that can be powdered by solar energy. I will be investing in that fence next spring a section at a time. It will let me put the birds out with out supervision and let me leave the coop open at night when it is hot.
This is exactly what I was going to suggest. They have predator fencing that keeps chickens safe too at Premier. I get their catalog all the time and there stuff DOES work! Incidentally, they also are the makers of that really cool waterer that we have given as a raffle prize at the bash. I have been toying with the idea of gettong some to keep my goats in. The lucky neighbor of mine found some on CL for half price!!!!!

She uses it all over her property for rotational grazing for her geese.

Later all...going to lunch today with a friend...then making cards for other friends! DAY OFF YEAH! TerriO

I hope it is not their dog. But I have had coyote take my birds twice. Both times they bring them back to the den. And a couple by hawk. The birds are too heavy for the hawks. They sit in the yard and eat what they can.
The dog on the other hand; bird completely gone. But the pluck every feather off and leave it in a huge pile for me to cry over and clean up. We have a very chopy yard. Lots of buildings. And lines of pines. Do you think it will be enough evidence if I have trail camera pics of the dogs in my yard and feather? I do not know how well my chances of getting her on camera eating the birds are.
The other thing is I want to leave the chesse out while we are gone. He stays home. But twice when he attacked the husky, he owed her through the fence. Both times he stopped at the ditch. My fear is he follows her out, and then he can't get back in. Both times this happened he went to the gate and waited for us to open it. I have done a test run. Left him out for 3 hours. All was well when we got home. But if she is there, what if they get nto it, and he is injured. These are just things runni g through my head. Im just rambling because I am upset.

Frenchie, it s sad about those horses. I wish I had $ I would buy them all and send them to training. NEIGHBORS CAN BE A PAIN.

I'd feel better if it was a pile of feathers at least someone had a meal... this is just senseless shaking the thing till the neck breaks and leaving it... We have a dog too but have him trained(maybe he has us trained) I will say this though every morning if I do not chain him up he will go to her yard find one of her dogs doo (which are about as big as a small ponies) and p%ss on it... She (neighbors dog) seems to do the same cept this time she was given to taking one of our "pack". Since her dog now has 4 chickens to her dogs record I am hoping she can do something before I have to. She did rehome the rooster. Roosters do not make for good neighbors.... beautiful animals but need a farm not an urban backyard. We did have a hawk/raptor kill, I could tell by the feathers they were bent on the ends where the beak pulled the feathers... It was mid-summer there was no sign cept feathers I am thinking they were teaching their juveniles to hunt and were able to carry the entire thing off... Hope we too can figure this dog thing out... Our guy is a little half poodle lhasa, he will snarl but has never bitten nor killed anything hers is a big African Ridgeback, sigh...
Have the twin grand-neices this weekend so we will be busy busy

Sounds like these fences are good for "free ranging" the girls. I think I may have just discovered my Christmas present :D

Don't ya just love picking out your own presents ??? LOL

I found mine on CL last night. A free player piano.....BUT by mistake I was on the Minneapolis CL. It is in Stillwater MN.... I don't think ET will go that far. Plus he wouldn't be able to load it himself.
That is the only piece of furniture I would ever want. I love player pianos. If anyone of one closer let me know.....

All these dog attacks... I can't keep them straight. Maybe you all need to get a pet donkey. They supposedly hate dogs. My Fifi, standard spotted donkey would seriously kill my little dogs if she had the chance. The others are ok. Or a pet Llama.

Well, I have three people trying to get ahold of the neighbor... She hasn't replied to any of them. She did answer my text The horses are not going to the sale today. They are going on Saturday.

I'm trying to hold back my judgement but it isn't working.
Talked to a girl today from Birnamwood area. She said unbroken horses are going for $50 to meat buyers !!! And my neighbor said she would like to a humane officer for horses !!!

You all promise me that if something happens to me that you will find good forever homes for my horses and DO NOT let ANY of my neighbors take them or help find homes. I will promise to be your chicken flock guardian angel !!!! LOL
All kidding aside.... I am going to have to tell my sister and my instructions.

My foot still hurts where the nail went in. I think I am up to date with tetnus. If not guess I might end up with two fake legs !!! LOL Always wanted to be shorter... it would be easier !!! LOL
Got an order for 8-10 dozen eggs !!!
Oh and does anyone have an old ATT phone, preferably a slide out keypad for texting they want to rehome? I can't get the one I have anymore.

Am I reading this right? Does it cost $1 a foot?! And that is for netting and stakes only? Then I have to purchase the solar thingy?
It is an investment for your future flock.. and yes..you have to buy the solar box if you want to power it by solar energy. You do not have to do that, you can get the electric box to plug in. Than you pay for electricity every month and are limited to where you put your fence. With a solar box you can move your fence all over.

I think I will get the tape. I googled fleet fam. I can do the entire yard for that amount. And then I will have a start on the horse fence ;-) right now I only need it about a foot off of the ground. Thatt way it will get her good when she is crawling and shoving under the wire. I have a wedding Saturday evening. I do not work durri g the day!! I guess I will be making a visit to fleet with the plastic in tow. And scott has yet another project. It also has a cool hooky thingy I can put across the gate in the driveway.
We put up a split rail in front to make things look nice. Then we added wire to it. Now electric tape.

Del, it looks like I am your road to ghetto! ;-)

Frenchy, I need a totally broke horse!! Almost to the point of lame lol then once we are comfortable, we need it to magically perk up!! Lol

Hi all--lunch was fantastic! I had a steak pizza...the cook knows all about GF at this place...he even made his own dough! I only ate half so I guess I have lunch for tomorrow as well.

Cuties...since the dog is pushing under the wire you already have I would just add and electric wire to it. That tape is made for visibility for horses and does not pack the punch that is needed to keep out a predator! Horses are extremely sensitive to electric waves and wont approach a fence if they know the electric is on. They somehow can feel it! My dogs go under the tape all the time and touch it with their tails and they never get shocked. I think you will need a double hot wire at the level of the dog's chest and nose. Do you know for sure how she gets in? (under/over?) Place accordingly. I would also tell the neighbor that "you are having predator problems so be sure not to touch my new fence!" Maybe that will be enough for them to keep their dog home. Some people dont know how much shock there is so it makes them scared!
If you can do a bit of research about fencers, placement, conductors/nonconductors, ground rods etc I can guarantee it will save you $$$ in the long run! (dont ask me how I know this!) Good luck in your search for a solution! The only thing more expensive than the horse and the feed--is the FENCE.

Heading to the garden...switching the planned beef roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash and broccoli for Stuffed Tomatoes on lettuce! Too hot for the oven!

Have a good one! TerriO

(ps) barlracer--I have blue ameraucanas....and I have a friend that has bigger and better ones than me! We are East of Madison.
