Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It's nice to catch up with everyone again--it seems as though life just gets so psycho insane all of the time--single mom-ing can be a challenge.

It also seems that I come crawling back when I have a problem. We were so devastated to go out on Sunday morning to find that three of our five birds were just...gone. Poof. And the run was still secured, and the gates were still closed on the yard, and there were no feathers or anything.

My daughter is especially hit hard by this. Two of the girls she works closely with and are the most tame--I would assume that that's maybe why they were easy to catch and haul off. It just breaks my heart that these birds that we have loved and put so much energy into are just gone. I knew you guys would understand, so I am coming over here for a group hug.

Jessica
HUGS!!!! So sorry your birds are gone!!

Keedokes, so sorry to hear :'(

Vicki, I use yogurt and garlic and kiane (sp) pepper. Must be the trick!

Del, I was hopefull the blue was a roo :-( how many times do you hear someone wishing for a roo?! They all lokk like girls to me lol I will see what they grow out to be. And then maybe another road trip ;-) thise jubilee are sooo tiny!! I will get a pic of them next to the meety chicks lolol and, I think those are almost all boys! :-( maybe we will be hen shopping for white egg layers before easter! I thought all the rest were black orps. I will do some more inspecting when I get home :)

Hey irish, sorry to hear about dannyboy. But glad he is not in the pot.

How are the reds? Ever find anything out on the egg eating?
Thanks! Rhonda and Rhoda are sweet as ever. They're not so gabby right now, though, I think they miss Danny Boy. I never did catch anyone eating the eggs - maybe it was just the mass molting that slashed the egg production and Danny Boy was just in the wrong place looking guilty??

Rberry, it is quite the trip! Isn't it? It is neat to read it all put together lime that :)

I wish I hadn't of dewormed. Still no worms when I cleaned today. And one of the chicks is not feeling well. Just does not seem right. Of coarse it is the one that was almost all white. And the one Blake chose first. I have it locked seperate. Gave yogurt garlic pepper mix. Added electrolytes. And put acv in the water. Heres to hoping.
Fingers crossed for you!!

Hi All, Well this sure has been an educational chicken year for us, actually we are calling it "the year of the coops". Last year this week, we decided to purchase layers rather than have our newly built mobile meat bird coop set empty.

While working on the main coop this spring, one of our Delawares went broody so Rod had to stop and build a broody box and we found someone in the area with fertilized Delaware eggs. Since we didn't know how many hens we would end up with and needed more layers, we ordered 8 Delaware pullets. They were 3 month old mid August and ready for pick up . . . coop #3 was built, this one will be our broody pen in the future. Pic is from my Android so not the best.

After all that we are finally in the process of integrating the newbies into our main flock. Saturday afternoon was everyone's first night out of their pasture areas and everyone stayed close to their coops, but each day they have been given more time out of their pasture/run to range. Yesterday they were ALL together up in the garden and no feathers were flying, best part . . . come dusk everyone went back to their assigned area

We still need to take that last step and stick the newbies into the main coop one night . . . hope that goes equally as well

Ok I'm ready to submit this post, I wonder if I'll get the "FrenchToast" award. Has anyone every wrapped a post onto page 2, can that even be done?????

That's a LOT of work! Looks super nice!!

My blrw is finally turning red in the waddles and comb. He/she has been the very pale from a baby, but is RED now. I am still not convinced the "it" is a female. I'll believe it when "it" lays an egg.

One (or more) of the blk orps is molting (you can't tell except the black feathers all over the place).

Oh yum Stonewall Kitchen's Spicy pepper Peach jam!!!!

Hi All!

Cuties.... those chicks are getting big and pretty!

TO.... sorry you didn't get the job. LOL when I had most of my teeth

I would love to graze the garden! One year I think the rest of the family only had 1 meal of fresh peas.

Those beets sound good! I hope you remember them at planting time in the spring and remind us all! BTW... cute add, I've played with my chickens like that! LOL

Sclark.... So sorry about your show bird! No, you can't keep a dog like that, that won't leave other animals alone.

keedo.... Wow, just wow, the balls of some people! Humm, if you had pictures of them you could post them around town and state they were your daughter's PETS! Someone may have seen something

Rberry.... That's a lot of building and moving!

momg.... thanks, I looked too and saw several pics of the same guy and deer, but no info! I did know of one taken in MN. a few years back, so it is possible they are here too. New Floors? I want floors so bad! At least in the kitchen!!!

JJ... did all that apple fit into that little tummy?

CS.... Sure hope they OK chickens!!!

BL4... Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the kudos to Jon! I'm proud but very nervous about this. It's allot all at once. He has managed people before but not on this scale and not knowing less than the employees! This coming weekend he gets thrown to the wolves managing the Texas fair. His boss has to go to another show. I hope I'm more nervous about this than he and his boss!

OK.... going to TRY to get to sleep.... night all!

she did not finish all that apple. She set it down on the table and said "Wow, I ate more than I expected" For awhile there she would get an apple, take one big bite, and put it back in the fruit bowl. She did that at a friend's house and the mom posted on facebook that she found an apple with a bite out of it in her fruit bowl, and knew it was not her son because he would not eat skin. We were busted.

One of the nature centers in WI Steven'sPoint maybe, has a stuffed white deer that they tell people that it was shot and left by someone who thought it was all white/albino, when it has a patch of brown fur about 4 inches round on a back leg that would have made it legal to shoot. SOOO, WI does have white/ piebald deer.

Oh I am not doubting we have Piebald deer here in WI but the rack on the deer was astounding I thought it might even be Photo-Shopped so that is why I googled it and looked at images there are a ton of pictures out there, I was amazed I love the look reminds me of an Ayrshire brown not red. I want to see one in my backyard eating apples off the tree...

Thanks del.

Momgill, I just mixed according to directions. It says not to butcher untill 14 days after treatment. But nothing about eggs. I am pitching for the two weeks.

Del, if I feed eggs back to chickies, will they get more wazine and od? Will eggs now work as dewormer in dogs? :p

They will be fine to feed back to the animals. They have short intestines and acid that will take care of any thing. That is why animals can eat expired foods and we can't. Sorry it will not work as a dewormer in your dogs. Give the dogs two-4 cloves of garlic each depending on weight.
Oh,it's a good day! Read this article about how Lake CO. Illinois is considering allowing backyard chickens!!!!

We are very hopeful that the ordinances will change and open more doors. I've got to figure out when the public hearing will be!

Delisha- I have some left over "stuff" from unpasterized apple cider. How do I turn it into ACV?
I sure hope it goes threw.

place it in a dark place and it will turn. Or you can just get a bottle of UPACV(braggs) and add a dollop if you do not want to wait that long. It takes two to six weeks in the closet for the mother to form.

It is a girl. males have red wattles very early. Your chicks have got to be 6 months old now. She would have tons of sickle feathers too. Take a picture and we can all take a look. My males are heavy with sickle feathers already.

Cs, I have 3 roos from that clutch. You would know for sure by now if you had a roo. Mine are stealing girls, and crowing. We have some roos to send to the sheep farm. And spring will be interesting!!

Del, I do feed them garlic :)

Vicki, can I get it at fleet farm?

Bbl4, what is de? Can I get it at fleet farm?
And how did the osha tour go?
