Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

TO... My family Did that ornament thing when I was a baby until after I was married. I did it for my kids and am doing it for my grand kids!

SClark.... I had a batch of chicks that got spoiled on ff. I started sprinkling the pellets over the ff and kind of mashing them in. Then started less ff and more pellets. They got the idea. They all still get ff in the morning and pellets if their still hungry later.

Bl4... how does he fix the traps? I always put peanut butter on the traps. These guys don't seem to like it as well. I don't want to poison because the cats do eat what they catch and I hate it when they die somewhere and stink up the place.

Jon and his boss just left Texas last night and are stuck in that ice storm! Jon is letting his boss drive because his boss never drove in ice and Jon figured he should learn!

*need a scared emo.* He said if it gets scary he'll take over.

That's it..... Night All!

My mom always gave us ornaments every Christmas and now we have a tub of them downstairs so full, we probably don't use half of them on the tree. And we have started to put some away for the kids too. Need to find a football one for the boy.
Well the Christmas concert was tonight and was super cute. Love seeing all those kids doing their thing! And we found a last minute tie for Andrew. He had to have one..last minute of course. Luckily we have a friend in town that sews so she had one in her stash I could buy!

Now to get through a busy day of of errands and appointments for Friday and an over night holiday party for my work in the dells.

I get to be the first to wish you a good morning!

good morning, I was up at 5, but I did not want to wake anybody up so I didn't post..

we got ALL of the birds in last night, and I gave each coop a heater on a 34 degree thermo cube.. had 3 eggs already this morning..

I tried to chase the geese out of the guinea coop, but they were having none of it..

I had to thaw out the kitchen drain, and I couldn't open the driver door on the Blazer, nor could I get the back hatch windo open.. so I took the paint stripper gun and thawed all of those too..

I am going for a small load of straw in a few minutes.. just as soon as my fingers quit tingling from the cold..

Chilly morning to you all.

Cind, hope jon makes it safe!

Del, I will hopefully have time on sunday :)

Terri, good luck on your own at WEAP!

Bl4, do you ever get a break?!

Not much new here. Very busy weekend ahead! ! I thought winter time was supposed to slow down. I told scott last night, I wish we were able to be home more to enjoy our lives! I have some more 12 hour shifts next week. And the 3rd shift guy in my position is talking about bidding to another job :-/ looks like of lots of 12's coming my way. Guess it will get spent on the holidays.

Chilly Morning here too! Nice to see the sun out. It's warmed all the way up to +5 here.

What type of heaters are you using Jim? It was +20in the big coop and +10 in the small coop when I went out around 8:30 . That's plenty cold for me.

I wonder how the Falcons will play on the frozen tundra Sunday? Sure hope they don't run us over like the Lions did. If we can't beat them, our season is over. Prolly is already.

FFF is gonna be bluegills fried to perfection tonight.

Stay Warm.. bigz

I can't believe we are having February weather in December. It worries me about February. I put out water at 6 this morning and it already had a hard crust on it and I had to break it off. Ridiculous for December weather.

Stay warm all!!

cold morning everyone

brrrrr.......

just checking in, we have been super busy with getting a unit ready for yesterday as the tenants who moved out took an extra day...... had to clean, fix and completely paint. Both DH & I have been just running. Working on paper work today trying to get caught up. We also have 4-H to deal with as we have our club meeting on Sunday(if we don't get to much snow)

We have 5 new(almost 2 weeks old) bunnies(at least that's what I think is there)- mom is very protective and so we didn't miss until just the other day and only a quick peek. They are at the poppie stage- if touched they pop up.....lol

Our pheasant hen died on us- not sure what happened DD found her earlier this week when doing chores... so now DH says he has no birds, not sure if we will replace them(we lost the male last year when it broke it's neck).

Our white peacock is starting to grow his train back in- will be interesting to see how long it gets this year.

Stay warm

Hi folks,

busy day today.. after thawing water drains, and car doors, I went and made 2 trips to Brian's and picked up 17 bales of straw.. I got some of the septic tank covered , put a bale in each of the coops, and then stacked the rest in the lean to on the North wall to make a nice windbreak for the birds who might choose to shelter-up in there..

I cleaned all ten of the nests out, too..
collected 3 eggs,, and later I will go put fresh shavings in the ten nests..
darned chickens roost on the edge with their butt ends in,, anybody know how to train them to face the other way ?

I just finished a warmed-too-long cuppa.. It was nice and strong, not the way I like it.. but a couple of choco chip cookies cuts the edge a bit ..

My master plan to whittle my flock down to a max of 50 birds failed miserably .. I didn't do an accurate count, but I am well over 100 ..

Bluegills are my favorite fish.. and so are perch,, and i also like Northerns, and walleyes..
and saltwater sheephead, and ,,,,,,,,,,

the trouble with the frozen tundra is ,, most of the Packers are from Southern states.. where's the advantage anymore ?

Brent, The heaters I use are tiny ceramic ones.. they cost about $10.oo at Menard's.. use about the same wattage as a heat bulb, but they have a fan and they last much longer.

the one I put into the guinea pen was packed full of sh!t and dust and straw.. I brought it in about a week ago and took it apart and washed it thoroughly in the sink.. then I put it back together and let it dry for a week.. surprisingly, it worked without popping a breaker.. I have it plugged into a 34 degree thermo cube, also from Menard's..
.

I'll have to check those heaters out Jim. Dang, this is gonna be a long winter. My straw was 12 bales/ $45...it's the only straw I could find.

I forgot to tell you Cind...no buck so far. It ain't lookin good for me this year...that will teach me not to wait for nothing.

Nice pic on the cover of the new Backyard Chickens Magazine...it's a guy sitting with his young child by the coop feeding the flock.

Later...bigz
