Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Packer Sunday All....X'2 for what you said CC! Hard to cover bases better than that.

I wonder how good the Pack is gonna make the Falcons look today? They have a good running game, and we have a crummy D....we could be in trouble today. The schedule from fleet is wrong again...it's a nooner today and not tonight like that schedule claims.

Terri, nope none of the pullets are laying yet... I also have a Delaware and and EE that I think are 2-3 weeks older than yours I am waiting on too....
DH let the birds out before the snow started they are under the front bushes afraid of the white stuff... Probably will have to capture them and carry them to the coop (dumb birds, hmmmm 2nd thought maybe not so dumb if they figured out that someone will carry them) Packers are driving me nutso here...

Enjoying some lunch (and quiet) after work. Nice....the sno is nasty to drive in, especially with baldish tires! DH was going to switch them around but didnt get to it...(no comment)

The internet is very slow today...maybe the snow has something to do with it?
Well, I need to finish this and go outside and water...slept in a long time this morning so I could only feed after coffee!
Stay warm and safe! TerriO

OK, I am back.. tuned the game in during half time.. a nail biter right up to the end, just like the old days..

I fed and watered the birds for the afternoon feeding.. I am doing it twice a day .. and despite giving them warm water and supplemental heat, my egg production doubled from yesterday..
8 eggs today..

I am going through about 50 pounds of feed per day.. I have to get to the feed mill and get some of that mixed corn and oats for the non-laying flock, (guineas and geese) ..

I am corresponding with a guy named Tom from Pelican Lake area.. he is on byc,, I invited him to check out the cheeseheads .. maybe he will,,.. he seems like a nice guy, so you women don't be mean to him like you are to the rest of us guys..

Annie went to town,, the snow is not too bad here.. and I can smell chicken baking in the oven.. and life is good..

chores wasn't to bad weatherwise today.. almost balmy out there.. No cap, no mittens, sad to say, I must be getting used to this cold weather..

Evening All,

It's nice to see egg production is beginning to pick up for some, our girls are slowly getting back into the groove too. Sure is nice having the addition of these seven Delaware pullets. Our rooster (Chester) still has his gimp, but appears to be healthy enough and does a good job of guarding his flock, and other duties . . .

Thought I would put a reminder out about another meet up in for those that are, or will be, in the Madison area Saturday (14th). A few of us are gathering at Cluck the Chicken Store in Paoli. This will be early in the morning so people will have plenty of time for other fun holiday events. Momgille will bring some yummy treats and I will pick up some GF bakery so those with gluten issues can have some goodies too. Susan will open at 8:30 for us with hot coffee ready and Kristip will be bringing tea. The store opens at 10:00, so this will give us time and space before hand, also gives Susan a chance to join in the "chicken chat".

PM me with questions or directions - hope those in the area can join us.

Stay safe driving out there tonight

Hey all...look what I got today!

The one didnt show the color too well...weird that the one with the flash did! I left 3 green ones out there in the nest to encourage them. Tomorrow that will be all that is in that nest...Murphy's law of course! So if these are my OE pullets I am disappointed! The eggs look like pullets for sure...I guess I will have to see which ones are going in there.

Good on the increase Jim! Are your lights still on 24/7? That is where I found the new eggs...I am still only getting 6 a day from the "laying coop" (she says loosely) that have a light on with a timer...but there are other differentials there: the 24/7 coop always has water...the laying coop gets a half gallon a day and then it is frozen or empty when the light comes on in the early AM. I may try putting a heated waterer in there to see what happens...only can increase right?

Smells like my Fast Fish Florentine is about done...Later---I hope no one any of us know was involvved in the crashes on the I system...

Well of about fifteen girls, I am getting 5-6 eggs most days lately...except now that I posted, I will get two tomorrow! My little bantam roo was looking chilled today, but head the only one who was looking like the cold effected him. Hope he is ok tomorrow. Had a work holiday party this weekend in thr dells and boy was that crazy.
Otherwise we went sledding this afternoon for a bit. Dh is going to snow blow tonight. Just finished,Sunday night fish fry...wish it as yummy fresh lake fish, but it was pollack. Still yummy.
This week is not as crazy as last week. So that will help my sanity. Next weekend is a little crazier but we will survive! So stay warm and safe everyone!

Hey everyone! I haven't been on here in awhile. I am in need of help. One of my bantams flew over our fence last Sunday, we couldn't find her. Today my neighbor showed up and said she had our chicken! We were surprised she made it in this cold by herself. Anyway I went to check on her tonight and she was laying on her side, I thought she was dead. I brought her in the house and she is laying on me, covered with a towel and I am giving her water through a syringe since she can't even lift her head. Is this the right thing to be doing? Should I be trying something else? Thanks for your help!

It sounds like her core temp is low.. wrapping her will not do it.. wrap her in warmed towels.. her own body heat is gone so there is nothing you can insulate .. don't give her cold water, either..
