Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It sounds like her core temp is low.. wrapping her will not do it.. wrap her in warmed towels.. her own body heat is gone so there is nothing you can insulate .. don't give her cold water, either..

Good advice sir. I will add that you can situate her in a kennel with a heating pad on low underneath half of it for the night. Cover it with a towel too. Warm oatmeal would be good! With some Karo syrup for energy.
Good luck! TerriO

both good advice, the only thing I would add is what CC mentioned earlier, any time there is stress I always add electrolytes to the water,,,this weather is stressing all the birds

Quote: x2. I agree on all the great advice being given here. Jim, Terri & Dan are 3 of the most knowledgeable and experienced Cheeseheads. You can trust that they know what they are doing.

She is probably dehydrated and very stressed from her ordeal. You can rarely go wrong with vitamins and electrolytes, and supplemental heat. Bantams tolerate heat much better than the cold, whereas the LF are the opposite. But extremes in either direction are stressful on the system of any breed. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. She is responding a little more, we will see what happens through the night. What do you give for vitamins and electrolytes? (I know, its probably a stupid question for you experts ) :)

Here it is. It is larger (8 oz) and cheaper, but you don't get the measuring spoon. I bought the bottle the first time, now I just buy the bags. HTH.

I am glad she is doing a little better. Please keep us posted on how she does.

Besides, how do you learn if you don't ask?

good late evening, I was watching Bonnie and Clyde.. the second episode started out boring, so here I am..

Chickens bounce back from hypothermia quite well.. I once found one frozen inside a cement block.. IDK how long she was in there, but I had to pour warm water on her to melt the ice so I could remove her.. other than a few lost feathers she was fine... she lived.. and then three days later, I made soup out of her.. Not really ..

Yes Terri, I keep the light on 24/7/365 unless it burns out.. I turn it off on leap year.. I don't want to over do it..

water is very important if you want eggs.. winter air is low in humidity, so they need more water than they do in the summer.. I have about 40 to 50 chickens in that one coop.. they go through about 2 of the waterers per day.. 5 gallons ? IDk how much that waterer holds..

I am going to mark this day on the calender 3 people agreed with me .. some sort of record for sure..

Hi All!

Wow Jim, your on a roll! LOL

Nice having Jon back, didn't miss the extra dishes when he was gone.LOL

Ok, Jon's friend tried to set up a rooster pen for me. For a first attempt, using just what was on hand, he did OK. The roosters are staying in, however I've had to chase a hen or 2 out of there every day! Today there were 3. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't lay eggs where I can't reach them!

Well, the deck rail has 4" on it, after that it falls off so we probably had a bit more.

Night All!

Good morning--very snowy out there for sure Cind! I think we ended at about 6 perhaps. I know there was a bunch cause I had to walk out through the field this morning in my shoes! (no socks) At least I was dressed though...

The foster dog decided to take off and she went across the highway. I walked down calling her and she came out of the woods across the road. That dog is a brat; she looks like she is going to stay here and then she turns and takes off...Typical terrier! I guess we are back to the leash again!

I thought I had to work at 11 and 3 but it is 10 and noon...not my favorite for sure but at least the little girl will be not so tired. I cannot believe these kids can go to school and then do 6 hours of therapy too!

I better get outside. I have a feeling the chores will take a bit longer today...not to mention the drive in!
Have a good one! TerriO
